okay.....so in order to have text it has to be a seperate marquee?....what I mean is can I have the wheels and text in just one instance or do they have to be executed in two separate marquee windows?

yes you can have multi-instant of hypermarquee

but you have to make entry for each style

in eds

I did have 2 separate entries but it opens 2 separate marquees, one with the text and one with the wheel art.....

Please don't flame me.... Trying to get my head around this. Have read this entire thread, all the others, watched every video I could lay my eyes on. This is causing me to completely rethink my build.... Awesome!

It seems this thread has really taken a turn towards guys that are wanting do do multiple things on the second monitor.

My question is simple. I am simply wanting to display a marquee that is on 2nd monitor while the game is playing AND flashes up while the game is paused while the theme is playing.

Do I need to download EDS for that?... It seems like overkill. Trying to keep this as simple as possible.

I am ONLY emulating Mame (my only wheel). I am using Hyperspin 1.2 set up thru Hyper HQ. No RocketLauncher. HLSL running perfect with the help of members here... Only playing 50 pf the early 8o's - 90's classics. (PacMan, Donkey Kong, Defender, etc...)

I have HyperMarquee downloaded and set up... Can't even get my artwork to display in the window! Ha, just havent had time to fully play with it.... Was doing this in middle of night half asleep...

Another question.... Is there a minimum res size to display the marquee art?

Hi Matt,

 

We will help you.

 

You have two options;

- AHK (requires coding knowledge)

- EDS (GUI only - no coding knowledge required, much responsive and faster, and allows neat transitions)

 

Now, both options requires knowledge on how Hyperspin works with external apps. This is where some users can be strike out right from the start. But, once understood, things are more easy. I must admit that it is scary the first time. Keep in mind that Sevenseal or I (preferably Sevenseal or/and some users that he help before) will support you here. But I would also recommend starting with EDS, especially if you are running on Windows 10.

Could someone in the know explain why hyper marquee crashes when browsing hyper search results in the new "hypersearch open source" thread?

Sorry i can't paste from my phone it seems, just do a search for hypersearch open source and you'll find it.

I just know the symptoms, not why it crashes but i think sevenseal knows why.

EDS NEWS UPDATE - 2015/11/21 - EDS (Beta Release version 0.7.3) is now ready for download!

 

'Bug' fix / Improvement: This is an important fix. EDS should now perfectly manage instances (open & close). I.e. not leaving orpheline instances while browsing games. Please test. For advanced users, you will find a new feature letting you manage maximum waiting time within Named Pipes between 0 to 10 seconds. I have put the default to 9 secondes, it was 1 second before (not enough time when the CPU is busy). You will find this in EDS global settings. NB: Make sure to give EDS folder write access after running the setup. Special thank to Sevenseal for support and time.

Hey Antos,

I have come back to configuring HM after installing a third monitor (now have main game (monitor 1), marquee (Slimline Monitor 2) and Poster (3rd monitor) for Game Info, Flyers and High Scores. It's incredible what you can do with HM!! Amazing work!! 

I have three issues to solve and I hope you can help me (Using latest 0.45 and latest EDS 0.7.3)

 

1. The Digital Text HM will only show the Filename. It won't show the [GoodName] [Company] etc parameters no matter what I try. I know it is working as it is showing the filename and the paths are correct. It just won't show the other parameters. I checked the actual files and the games and those parameters are in the files so I'm stumped. Is this a bug perhaps?

 

2. My HitoText HM has a background image which I want to show because a lot of games don't have hi score support so I don't want that section of the screen blank. However when the Hi Scores are displayed I can't easily read them because of the graphic. I can't seem to get any of the text effects to work so that they shade behind the letters to block out the graphics. This may be related to point three below but I'd be interested to know what you believe to be the best solution here. Basically I want a graphic to be visible when there are no High scores and the graphic to be obscured by black (either fully or partially) when the scores show).

 

3. When ever I choose any shader HM crashes to desktop. I had done a full install of 0.44 and then copied the exe for 0.45. But can't seem to get the shaders to work at all now. They were working when I was on 0.40 before I upgraded to do this latest config.

hi i am the tech support for HM and EDS, i am here to help

1. I had to change the wildcard [system] in the database paths to be the actual system (ie: "MAME" in my case). Then it worked. If I had other systems then this wouldn't work. However I just use Mame so it's fine for me to hard code the actual system name (ie: MAME)  in the path. You may want to check the code as this could be a bug as this won't work for other people that may want to use it across different systems (ie: Doesn't seem to work with the wildcard [system] in the path).

 

2. I fixed the shader issue (see point 3 below - thanks for the tip) and then spent a LOT of time trying to get the High Score table to look right. I noticed that the drop shadow shader doesn't work on the text which is a shame as that would have been a possible improvement to the readability. The formatting for the hi scores, the high score title and the 2nd line titles don't line up properly no matter what justification you choose. Not sure if that is a limitation with High2Text? Hopefully that will be improved one day.

 

3. I fixed the Shader problem by copying the shader.dll from the EDS folder to the HM folder. Not sure why that shader was wrong as I used the full HM 0.44 install before adding the 0.45 exe. So the 0.44 install should have the right shader? I checked and it looked different to the EDS one. You may want to check the 0.44 package as it may not be correct?

 

Also just some general feedback: At the moment it's very difficult to find various options and understand how all the options work (even after reading the manual) as settings are all over the place and there are lots of 'quirks'. For example when applying text effects you can choose the shader in the drop down. But then the shader is also in the tick box next to it and you can't see the shader unless you actually go to the artwork tab. Then it doesn't show you what shader is selected unless you click to modify it etc etc...There are lots of issues like this that make navigation and set up very difficult and time consuming. I realise it is still in beta so no problems if you are going to look at these things later. For anyone testing/trying for the first time - be prepared for lots of jumping around and trial and error to get things to work.

 

Please don't let the above take away from the awesomeness that this software provides! It is truly amazing and hopefully the navigation issues will be ironed out as the beta is developed further!

Thanks for using HM.

 

Your point 1. Wild cards are working, this feature have been well tested. But if you are only using mame, feel free the hard code. Continue working with sevenseal for support on wild cards, you are almost there, they are not so hard to get it work.

 

Your point 2. Yes, "drop shadow shader" do work on text, but there is a 'bug'. A quick work around will let you do it. You have to use a transparent background, then you will see the projected shadow. If dont like a background, wait for the bug fix or use an one more instance as a background layer and it will work perfectly well for the time being.

 

PS: not recommended to use 100% transparent background, use 99.9% transparency..

Seriously stumped- followed the instructions indicated in the quote below. I'm also confused as to why you don't need HSFilewatcher with HS 1.4beta (which I'm running). 

 

I can start and edit both programs but when I launch HS then start a game, nothing happens.

 

I also wanted to express appreciation for these awesome third party apps. It's stuff like this that makes HS the top front end! Thanks in advance for the help! :):)

If you are running the new HS Beta 1.4 then you don't need to install/run HSFilewatcher.

 

Maybe this will help explain a little.

Normally HyperHQ has the option to enable the use of LedBlinky in HS.  If you follow the instructions above then you will rename the EDS program to LedBlinky and you will give HyperHQ the file location of this "fake" LedBlinky. This gets EDS running in HS. Then EDS runs the true LedBlinky program (along with Hypermarquee).

 

Hope this makes sense and helps.

well hs before 1.4 lack a little cli to cover everything, i was able to work with BadBoyBill to have HS handle what hsfilewatcher provided. it is now built into hs now in 1.4, not needed anymore unless you use verison less than 1.4...

if you want assistance, we can do a teamviewer to quickly help or teach to properly to use eds and hm?

I worked a bit with SevenSeal today via TeamViewer- this guy is absolutely awesome and knows HM and ED inside and out. We were able to pinpoint my issue- my Parameter and Pipe IDs didn't match the name of my HM .xml files. Seems so obvious in retrospect. :)

 

He also showed me how to set up multiple instances of HM so I can have different art and videos going on the Marquee screen. 

 

Thanks again, SS- I wish every addon had this type of support. I've never had anyone go this far above and beyond.

Thank you. I am glad to hear this. Sevenseal is the one who knows the most my 2 applications and provide excellent support, which gives me the time that I need to code and improve both apps. Also working on a third one that should be available next year.

When I attempt to run two instances of HM that display the Digital Text for Gameinfo/Hyperlist the Hyperspin wheel moves slowly and progressively gets worse as it scrolls until it practically stops. If I disable the 2nd HM instance then the the speed of the hyperspin wheel returns to normal.

 

I can load multiple HM's without the slowdown. It only happens if I have two HM's showing variations of the Gaminfo/Hyperlist information. 

 

The reason why I want to do this is because I want to show the main game name in one colour and size and the gamer details (company year etc) in a different colour and smaller size under it. As you cannot select different font sizes and colour within the text in one HM I have to open two instances of it. However this slows down hyperspin to a crawl.

 

Can this be tested and confirmed to see if it is something that can be fixed and/or determined that it's only my system (in which case any ideas how to resolve). Thanks.

everything depends on pc hardware, cpu, ram, graphic card makes all the differents.

those 3 combination make all the different when your computer can take a heavy load on processing, it might make a different disabled some background programs...

some have antivirus running which causes many issues because it scan every file that get run by your frontend then lags your whole system.

everyone pc is unique.. i worked with many users, that the first time hearing someone get rundown by two instance of hypermarquee

please post your pc spec?

It's not about the number of HM's. I can run five HM's concurrently no problem. However if just two HM's are showing the Gameinfo/Hyperlist info at the same time then Hyperspin goes slow to a crawl. So the number of HM's is not the issue. The issue only occurs when two HM's are showing Gameinfo/Hyperlist info at the same time. Thanks.

question? are you using a external hdd? read speed make the different of a hdd when it take a heavy load, is everything being read off of it?

if you have a solid state drive shouldnt have this issue period.

my only suggestion if it a internal hdd that you defragment your hdd

OK, I am using a standard HDD not SSD so I gather you are saying that when HQ is trying to access the game file information from two HM at once the normal HDD is not fast enough? Is that correct?

 

EDIT: The only problem I see with this logic is why HM can load the flyer, the marquee, the hi-score and one title all at the same time with no slow down. But when I just try and run two HM's getting game info then it slows. Maybe I need to put a delay between the two HM's that are reading the game file?...That sounds like it could be more the issue (ie: Concurrent access to the game info that is causing the issue)...
