sevenseal Posted December 30, 2014 Posted December 30, 2014 Thanks Antos,Item 1: - I had installed HM for the first time so there was no previous config - so that wouldn't have been the issue - What I should do is recheck that original image I got from the internet to see if that problem shows itself again. That way we can rule out the image itself. Remember though that I can't reproduce the issue (at least with my new photoshop file I created). - What do you mean when you say "HM do not adjust image transparency, only color brush. Which is behind of in front of the artwork". Does this mean that HM is adding an extra layer of 'tint' colour in between the first HM image and the 2nd HM image? If so, is this something that you may be able to change as a user selectable option? Item 3: I'm confused what Sevenseal said as the problem I am describing is not when running through EDS. Simply running HM direct. Maybe I've misinterpreted his post. Anyway you have stated that this is not a bug (which I agree) and just something that can be improved so all good. Item 4: I currently don't have HSFilewatcher running or setup at all. Have I missed something? HM seems to work fine without it although does HSFilewatcher assist with trapping the return event to HS after a game game is run? Either way I'm a little unsure why HM works without it but sometimes it seems to go back to a blank marquee after the game is run. Other times it comes back correctly. I am going to need to test some more to give you more information as I appreciate it is difficult to know what is going on without some more specific tests. But I would be interested to know if I should have HSFilewatcher running? Item 5 (new): In my testing last night after about 30 minutes of scrolling through games in the HS front end (I was adding games to the HS favourite list), I noticed that the 2nd HM (Ie: My overlay mask) was no longer showing. The first HM (The marquee artwork) was still showing fine. So it looked like the 2nd HM instance quit for some reason. This stayed like this until I exited Hyperspin and restarted and then both HM's loaded. I'll have to keep an eye on it to see if it happens again. By the way, this was with the latest Rev G version. #1 HM can adds filter layers on the image itself; the foreground layer and background layer of the image by using the shader options. you can remove the brush colors or shader if you chose them... explore the options it is all there, the purpose to give it a try #3 what I stated before... when HM is called... which is when the event trigger done from the frontend, hyperspin, it will communicate with EDS which then will send a PIPE(CLI) line to HM to load the configuration file you have made. LABEL matter 100% to load a config profile of HM. if a config profile is unable to load; HM will open as if to setup a new config to be made; which you have stated that HM is doing when it being loaded. #4+5. EDS can function without hsfilewatcher. hsfilewatcher is a addition addon to help give Hyperspin a feature which is not originally provided in it current version. what hsfilewatcher does is provide event triggers for the main menu of Hyperspin. things to look at when you recieve blank marquee... is paying attention to what event triggers to open/close HM, in the option of EDS... you must understand what each event do inorder to help solve what you mention with the blank marquee. favorites list is something that would benefit fron hsfilewatcher. to setup eds and hsfilewatcher right, there is a guide provide on the eds forum section that explain it. if not, ask me to walk you through it sevenseal
Antos Posted December 30, 2014 Author Posted December 30, 2014 Item #1: Yes each HM instance has 3 layers; Foreground - Artwork - Background. Where Foreground can be an image or a Color Brush (for overlays), Artwork can be a Video or an image and finally background can be an image or a Color Brush. So you do not need two instances for doing this. Item #3: I think Sevenseal meant Item 4, he has a very good comprehension of HM & EDS and can certainly helping you. Item #4: Yes, you have missed something not intuitive thought (I must admit). Sadly, Hyperspin do not call ledblinky in the main menu (currently). To make this append within HM, HSFilewatcher comes into play as a 'hack'. It watches the HS playing video. Sevenseal can give you an excellent support to setup this properly and provide with some more details. Item #5: Please keep an eye on this. What could append too, just fishing, is that the background went foreground. It depends when the image is ready to be displayed I guess. One way to avoid this, only if, is to set the 2nd instance, TOP MOST. Please have a look in the global settings. I recommend you to get familiar with HM and dig into the options & menus. Also reading the documentation, sevenseal quick video and his setup guide. They are somewhere in this thread (or EDS thread), but I will group them in the first post when I have a chance. Good luck! xzotic Posted December 30, 2014 Posted December 30, 2014 Here are some comparison screenshots showing the difference to the way HM applies the 'Mask' file as a 2nd HM instance compared to the same mask in Photoshop. Interestingly HM shows the more transparent areas of the mask as darker than the rest. I assume because the way HM applies a dark tint where there is transparency (so more of that dark tint is showing through). So as you can see I can't achieve the effect that I am after with the tint that HM adds. The only way I can improve on this is to make my mask much higher in transparency but then the shadowing is lost on the edges and it's still too dark. Ultimately it would be great if I could apply my mask in HM without any additional tint being applied so it looks like it does in Photoshop. I hope this helps demonstrate the issue. Thanks!

Item #1: Ah I see! OK, now I understand. Right I'll go and try it as a single instance as a front overlay rather than two images. Sorry I didn't realise this as it's not in the manual at the moment...but makes sense now. Hopefully that actually gives the photoshop image I am after! Item #4: OK, again I'll re-look at this and get this set up. That may have been causing my intermittent black marquees and perhaps also could have impacted #5? Item #5: I'll keep an eye out but I think this may be resolved by setting up the HSFilewatcher. Regardless I'll dig a bit deeper and get some more specific results next time to make it easier to diagnose. Thanks again for all your help and the excellent applications!
xzotic Posted December 30, 2014 Posted December 30, 2014 SUCCESS! Ok so I tried putting the mask as a front overlay rather than use two HM images and of course it worked! I feel a bit silly now that I didn't see that in the first place. Never mind it's all sorted now and it looks great. Ignore the slight 'banding' on the image, the camera is detecting some strange refresh rate on the marquee monitor. In real life it looks like I expected and gives the marquee a much more realistic look. I can probably play around with the mask to tweak the effect some more but for now it's looking great! Thanks!

I had fun a little bit trying to recreate this vintage effect using only HM internal capabilities (brush & shader) without a Photoshop overlay. I didn't spent lots of time, but here is the result. Premise: central light and adding yellowish tint effect due to years... I guess both (photoshop and HM) give good results in this particular case. Happy New Year BTW! Here we are still in 2014 (not for very long). Cheers! HyperMarquee & Event Dispatch System

Here we are still in 2014 (not for very long). Cheers! Hey, that's really cool. I didn't even try the inbuilt brush and shaders! I was doing it the hard way! Great that HM supports that natively within the application. Hopefully these posts will give others some inspiration to make their own 'aged' look for their marquees with HM. Using this in combination with mame HLSL effects gives a really authentic look and feel that makes you feel like you are on the actual machine! Great stuff and Happy New Year to you too!
kcorcoran Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 Got the 22" 16:10 monitor I'm using for my marquee uncased and mounted in my cabinet header... The header formerly housed a printed marquee and a led matrix so I need to cut off part of the metal bezel but otherwise it's ready to hook up. Marquees look GREAT on it and I will probably remake all the art I need for 16:10 display However I'm sad... I'm runing my HS setup on Windows XP64 and HyperMarquee requires .net framework 4.5 noooooooooooooooooooooooo. My only option now is to upgrade my hardware to allow me to run win7 i guess. this makes me sad. until then, I guess I'll just duplicate my main screen up top. Got my header installed last night. the 22" 16:10 monitor was a PERFECT fit inside the original marquee bezel. Looks sweet powered up.
Antos Posted January 12, 2015 Author Posted January 12, 2015 Nice cab with style and originality. Never seen one like this before. Thank you for sharing. For WindowsXP, sad indeed. No can do, sorry. This is Microsoft's business decision. I may try to downgrade HM by one framework for XP users, but no promises. I would be surprised to succeed. HyperMarquee & Event Dispatch System
Antos Posted January 14, 2015 Author Posted January 14, 2015 Sevenseal, I have compiled HyperMarquee (Alpha Test Version 0.4.0.G - Revision G) - forXP - Under Framework 4.5.0 instead of 4.5.1 This is the lowest I can go without impacting the code version. Otherwise, it will mean to redo some part of the code, which I will not go there for obvious reasons. Can you give it a try and let me know? NB: This message is for XP users, if this works (after Sevenseal has quickly and roughly tested it), then we are happy for you! But I will not support this for long and will not offer support nor promises it will be stable, neither work properly. XP is dead when it comes to new development based on .Net Framework, sorry. We will be more than happy to bring you support on our gaming solutions beyond XP. Sad but true (good remix): HyperMarquee & Event Dispatch System
sevenseal Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 http://www.microsoft.com/en-in/download/details.aspx?id=30653 those on xp, I would give that .net 4.5 a try and install it, then see if it work for you, my xp pc is heavily tweaked and modded. the exe work for me antos

Does this version provide any enhancements over the previous version or is it just the XP compatibility you're tackling right now? I was thinking the other day, and this is just a brainstorm that I know is easier said than done. What if multiple images could be displayed on the same screen at a time? Right now we have 5 alternating images that become slides in a repeating slide show (we're up to 5 mostly because yours truly kept asking for *just one more* ). If multiple images based on variables could be displayed simultaneously I could do something like the following: - Slide 1 - Marquee/banner image from original cabinet or console (full screen) - Slide 2 - Display photo of my Control Panel with indicators of what the specific controls are for the system (CPWizard-style dynamic generation based on controls.ini and button colors based on colors.ini for MAME would be nice here) - Slide 3 - 2 images simultaneously, 1 displaying the image from slide 2, the second displaying the original arcade Control Panel from MAME\cpanel - Slide 4 - 3 images simultaneously, 1 displaying advertisments from MAME\flyers, 1 displaying the actual original cabinet from MAME\cabinets, and 1 displaying the marquee MAME\marquee - Slide 5 - Many misc. images simultaneously including \snap, \titles, \icons, etc. I think it would be a great way for dynamic marquee cabinets to display a ton of artwork that is available at EmuMovies' FTP and coupled with the use of HyperLaunch bezels and instruction cards (thank you djvj, bleasby and the crew!) would really create a submersive experience and a nod to these original cabs we all adore. /gg

ccarlesco Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 Anybody else noticing a constant cpu drain of 30-50% on a single instance of hypermarquee? I'm running a dual core i5 and it's pegged around 38% usage with just one marquee being shown. This is without hyperspin even loaded.

I'm running a dual core i5 and it's pegged around 38% usage with just one marquee being shown. This is without hyperspin even loaded. Interesting, yes I have notice it too. But, I have also notice that when the menu is displayed, the CPU performance goes to 100% and HM takes 0% of the resources. See image, on Win7 laptop with very old processor. I will have a look why when I have a chance. But I have no clue why to not displaying the menu causes this. HyperMarquee & Event Dispatch System
sevenseal Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 I will check that as well, didnt notice that in the alpha phase
ccarlesco Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 I wouldn't have noticed but my CPU fan was getting loud! The work that you have put into this project is really appreciated. Thanks!
Imagamejunky Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 I'm very excited about this. I hadn't planned on purchasing a marquee screen for my cabinet project but now that I see this thread I have to have one. Just awesome! Apparently LG has some 21:9 monitors as well. Bestbuy has a 29" for $349 if you are looking.
