I've not tried the vitro. I wrote some stuff to address an issue a user had but he never got back to me on if it worked.

Been trying this for a while now with just 2 screens, showing the marquee on the 2nd. Works just fine except when I am not running Hyperspin in fullscreen. In windowed mode (1024x768), the Hyperspin window is moved from the center of the screen and some artifact is shown in the center, but only after playing a game and exiting it.

Is this the software one should use to move hyperspin and all it's emulators to a second display?

this App has a bezel for 16:9 screens, you should disable it in the settings...

I just installed a 4.3 inch touchscreen LCD into my cab but I've run into a couple problems.

1. it seems like whenever i exit mame, HSH is put in the foreground and i have to alt tab to get HyperSpin active again.

2. it's a touchscreen and when you touch the screen, it puts HSH in the foreground (naturally). Do you have any idea how to block that from happening? (or even better, make it so i can actually use it for something?)

It's stuck behind another pending change I need help with. I can support animated gifs for the default marquee screen but need to bundle one with it. If someone can help with that then I can relatively quickly fix the bezel issue.

Hi Or8ital,

Well, I have to say that it's been a while since I've watched a thread DAILY to see if there is any news... but I find myself doing it with this thread now ;-)

I'm eager to try the upcoming release that includes the fix for selecting custom bezels, but I know as you've indicated in the above quote you are looking for an animated gif to bundle with it.

Any luck getting what you're looking for and any news on the release?

If not, I did some research/experimentation with Photoshop the last few days, and I feel pretty comfortable editing existing animated gifs with it now.... although I'm not that great at creating original content.

That said, I've attached a few "experiments". I cannot take credit for the content, as these are just interesting things I found with google from other talented folks. All I did is resize, crop, etc to create the desired 1920 x 360 size. Do you think any of these would be suitable for your purpose? Also, do these gif's have the right file properties to work with HyperSpin Helper, or would I need to modify them in some way? (Like framerate, color depth, etc....)

If these are not the sort of images you are looking for, if you (or anyone) can provide content... even if it's the wrong size, etc. I should be able to get it to the right dimensions/properties with Photoshop.

Please let me know... again I'm eager to try your new code and you can save me from having to hit refresh 10 times a day ;-)

UPDATE 1: my first attempt at uploading the gifs was unsuccessful, as they were automatically converted to jpgs... going to try to attach as a zip file instead. (Sorry, had to break into separate zips for each due to file size limitations)

OK, after a little more Photoshop experimentation I have a couple more animated gifs to share.

This time:

- Figured out how to use adjustment layers to adjust levels, brightness, contrast, etc. across all frames

- Added static image (to all frames in this case)

Thanks to the following board members for sharing the static images I used for these:

donnei1979 - "Arcade Classics - Replay your past"

culpster - "Arcade Classics"

Let me know what you think...

or8ital I just wanted to say I love this app. Really made me work on adding the 2nd monitor to my cab. Any chance to get the option to combine controls and marquee's on one screen in some way added to a future feature list? Hopefully soon i'll add a 3rd monitor after my 4 player control panel is complete.

That said I love this!

thanks for your hard work.

Is the newer versions released somewhere? I found it on the FTP but the files are from 2013, so I guess its an older version. Can not find any information on where to actually get the software.

I do use the version from the FTP and I love it, but would like to keep track of updates...

Thanks!

Hi or8ital,

Hope everything is going well on your home improvement project. I haven't been a pest lately because I've been busy on my own! ;-)

Been a while, so just thought I would check in to see if there are any new developments on this eagerly-awaited new version?

Thanks,

Dino

Went well but traveling a lot for work now. May be a while before I get back to enhancing the app. Sorry

There appears to be a bug somewhere.

I had the same problem that another poster had where the marquee and controls wouldn't change from the default images. After a LOT of investigation, reinstallation and use of all available versions of the hyper 'suite', plus reading through this entire thread I finally managed to find the issue.

It appears that for some reason when Hyperspin Helper parses the emulator name to add to the directory path (to find the images) it misses the first letter. So "Mame" becomes "ame" in the path and hyper helper therefore can't find the images and gives the defaults instead. I managed to prove this by simply creating a subdirectory called "ame" and then copied the correct directories underneath it with the marquees. As soon as I did this the Marquee's worked.

I am using the current version of Hyperspin Helper from the FTP (i.e. not the legacy one) and from my readings of this thread this should be compatible with the latest Hyperlauncher v3. There was a post that commented about the same problem (i.e.: the first letter of the emulator missing) and the recommendation was to make sure the person was using the latest version of both the Helper and Hyperlauncher which I am doing. So something is still a miss here.

As it is working for others I am gathering that's because they have hyper launch v2 working with it instead? Not sure, but the workaround I've described above is the only way I've managed to get it working. Just for further info I'm running on win 7 32bit under admin with the helper.exe set to run as admin as well.

Also the log file from displaying just the marquee won't tell you anything is wrong which is unfortunate as it was difficult to track the issue down originally. However when I tested showing the control panel instead there appears to be some debug error collection in the log that highlighted the fact that hyper spin helper couldn't locate the directory and includes the full directory path with the missing "M" on the name part of the path.

Anyway, perhaps this workaround can help others to get it working until orbital is able to provide a proper fix.

I keep using this App with my own controller files. This is the perfect idea and its not big program. Please Orbital come back to development (or make the program open source if you don't want to continue the development, but your job is great and its a shame not to continue the development)

I'd love to make it open source so the dev can continue when I get busy. Not completely sure how to do that but would be willing to work with someone on it.

Hey Or8ital - this is indeed a great app. Just a few issues still. But once resolved would be perfect for most peoples needs without any additional functionality.

I managed to get around the path issues for the marquee as per my post above. However I'm trying to show flyers as custom controllers by setting the option in settings UseCustomControls=True but when it launches into a game with a flyer it just shows a white screen.

The log shows:

Controls Emulator: AME

Controls Game: Digdug

Error in controls.displaygameinfo: System.NullReferenceException: object reference not set to an instance of an object. at hyperspinhelper.controls.displayGameInfo(String strEmulator, String strGame)

And that's after I copied mame.xml to ame.xml into a ame folder to account for the path error that I got with the controls on the first attempt. But unlike the marquees workaround that didn't work.

Any idea how to resolve? Once I get my flyers showing on the third screen then I'll be all set and done. Any help would be most appreciated! Thx for a great program!

I'm not sure why you are having path problems but I imagine that will manifest itself throughout the app in a lot of weird ways. There shouldn't be a need to remove letters. I've honestly not been on the new FTP site ever. I only assume the latest version is out there. :-)

Wish I had the time to work on this as it's really enjoyable and I like giving back to the community.

I simply release the code i write along with the apps but you can license the code by GNU or whatever you want. It's your app after all. :)

As in you just put the source out there on an FTP or whatever with the app? I'd probably want to stick it in a central place to limit the number of branches of the code.

I wish Hyperspin would go open source and the functionality of this app could just be bundled in.
