newoski Posted December 20, 2015 Posted December 20, 2015 Right now, I have my Model 2, and other systems, only defined in the LEDBlinkyControls.xml database for Blinky...
scoodidabop Posted December 21, 2015 Posted December 21, 2015 Something else to maybe consider - how will non-MAME settings carry over between our different setups and IPAC button assignments? Does the ledblinky option "Use mame controls with other emulators" handle button assignment discrepancies between our setups? MAME would be the easiest one to start with since we will just be using the "colors.ini" file. Does anyone know the original creator(s) of "colors.ini"? Maybe they've made progress and/or want to participate in adding games. greatwork, I looked into the controls.ini but that not been upadted since 141. Sadly nothing to help with model 3 & naomi. I thinik either cab, control pannel or instruction card art is best bet & some games will show ingame. I evene looked in the mame drivers. But not documented. Mames the big 1 todo, the others minimal. My main intrest is taito x, model 2&3, naomi & atomiswave & the more popular missing mame games, Even if colors unknown I think we shoud atleast ensure correct number of buttons are lit. I think to keep it easy we just post setting files here and make todo list. What other systems are u concerned with ? Sega Model 2 Sega Model 3 Sega Naomi Atomiswave TaitoX Mame - HS xml If people are like us and have each emulator setup like below sharing should be easy b1 b2 b3 b4 b5 b6 Right now, I have my Model 2, and other systems, only defined in the LEDBlinkyControls.xml database for Blinky... Do each of your setups in Model 2/3, Aomiswave etc... match each individual game? I have settings for all those systems too, but they're a generic 6 button color arrangement and aren't game specific.

bob.records Posted December 21, 2015 Posted December 21, 2015 Can you locate the code for the system and paste here or upload the file
bob.records Posted December 21, 2015 Posted December 21, 2015 Il make a start on m3 later today and hopefully atomiswave
bixter1 Posted December 21, 2015 Posted December 21, 2015 I can help with coding. I have a few c# libraries i wrote to handle hs xml, mame.xml and such.
bob.records Posted December 21, 2015 Posted December 21, 2015 Scood,i reckon it will all work fine if you have the standard 6 buttons A list of missing mame games for hs xml is on first page
bob.records Posted December 21, 2015 Posted December 21, 2015 Bixter, sounds great, ive only spent time limited time with vba/sql in access, what tools would i need
newoski Posted December 21, 2015 Posted December 21, 2015 Can you locate the code for the system and paste here or upload the file Yes, that's easy. But the problem is that it will be based on my keymapping layout. I'm trying to come up with the most logical way that we can share these... with a guide for implimenting (via step by step search/replace or something). Bob, shoot me an IM if you see me online and let's chat through logistics. If I need to convert the XML data to the colors/controls.ini format, I can do that too.

But now that I think about it, I'm not sure that the colors.ini/controls.ini even applies to Model 2/3/Atomiswave etc... as these are not MAME systems. I'll have to test. Or can anyone clarify?
bixter1 Posted December 21, 2015 Posted December 21, 2015 i would be more than happy to code this if you want. I am a c# guy. We can keep the source and any updated xml/ini files on git hub.

It doesn't look like it's the full list of games missing from the controls.ini and colors.ini, as it doesn't include Raiden... Please clarify
scoodidabop Posted December 21, 2015 Posted December 21, 2015 It might not be the full list, neowski. Not sure. i would be more than happy to code this if you want. I am a c# guy. We can keep the source and any updated xml/ini files on git hub. Correct me if I'm wrong but don't we just add the games into controls.ini manually with a text editor? If there's any kind of coding that can be done to expedite this process and worked on by you that would certainly simplify things. Otherwise it's a matter of us dividing up this long list of titles and getting to work on it.
bixter1 Posted December 21, 2015 Posted December 21, 2015 I really what i want to code is a way to create the controls.ini from the mame.xml file unless someone knows of one. then it can create a default color scheme in the colors.ini file. As far as the other games i have some thoughts I will test out tonight.

Otherwise it's a matter of us dividing up this long list of titles and getting to work on it. The controls.ini and colors.ini are, unless I'm mistaken, used only by MAME systems (MAME, Neo Geo, CAVE etc). For all other systems, them need to be defined in the LEDBlinkyControls.xml file. The LEDBlinkyControls.xml file can also be used for MAME, however, LEDBlinky allows the use of the colors.ini and controls.ini to save a TON of time.

As far as the other games i have some thoughts I will test out tonight. LEDBlinky already uses the mamelist mame.xml file to get control info for all games that contain info, no?
newoski Posted December 21, 2015 Posted December 21, 2015 After reviewing my previous conversations with Arzoo (LEDBlinky's developer), the following quote should bring things into sharp focus: "The only time LEDBlinky uses the controls.ini, colors.ini and mame.xml files is for MAME" That means: ALL non-MAME systems, from Model 2 and Sammy Atomiswave to consoles like Nintendo Entertainment System, rely on the LEDBlinkyControls.xml file. That is what we'll need to share for these systems. I already have most systems with default layouts already mapped. I will share this once we figure out a framework that is easy for people to import into their own systems. MAME, and MAME-related systems (like SNK Neo Geo, CAVE) will use the colors.ini and controls.ini files for per game customizations/additions. I haven't delved into updated this file at all yet, but it's very straightforward. If you're interested in working on this project, shoot me a PM and I'll send you a few files to test and report back.
bixter1 Posted December 21, 2015 Posted December 21, 2015 I like the smaller controls.ini file for startup and just speed. For smaller frontends it helps avoid loading a huge xml being loaded but no biggie either way. After reading everyones thoughts I think I would much rather see a master LEDBlinkyControls.xml file and not using mame specific stuff configuration piece in ledblinky. So input mame.xml and colors.ini, use another xml file to merge in any changes to mame/other frontends and produce the LEDBlinkyControls.xml. Any missing games can be dumped to a text file to be looked at later.

I don't have any issues with the MAME.xml loading slowly, but I agree that the starting point should be all non-MAME systems, since that's the part that really slows EVERYONE down. Then, as a group, we can add to the colors.ini and controls.ini. Bixter1, PM me and I'll send you something to test
bob.records Posted December 21, 2015 Posted December 21, 2015 The list was mame hs xml minus the colors listed games, driving and casino were probly taken out. Great if you can code, esp if u know what ur doing, i dont but enjoy a working things out. Idea i had would be for it to read hs xml or mame and cross check aginst ledblink xml and colors. Filter missing, add new and export out. Convert colors ini to xml could be good also

Filter missing, add new and export out. Convert colors ini to xml could be good also Sorry, no. I meant XML code. I don't have any programming skills. This is a manual process. I'm not sure what you're trying to do with programming. LEDBlinky already has access to all the data in the mamelist mame.xml, colors.ini, and controls.ini. The problem we're trying to solve is that not all games are included. The missing games for MAME need to be added manually, as they don't exist to be parsed. The other systems, including consoles, also need to be added manually. However, since they are typically one default layout per system, we can share them.
newoski Posted December 21, 2015 Posted December 21, 2015 My goal will be to release modular XML data per system. That way, people can add only the systems that they want, without having to replace their existing XML. For simplicity sake, I will be removing my own ADMIN buttons from the data. This will make the files as simple and modular as possible. People can then add their own ADMIN buttons in, to match their own cabinets. Based on other threads lately, it sounds like Google Drive will be the best place to share the full LEDBlinkyControls.xml file as well as the module system's XML data.
newoski Posted December 21, 2015 Posted December 21, 2015 If anyone can link to per game control panel layouts/colors for Model 3, Naomi, Atomiswave... I haven't been able to find much...
scoodidabop Posted December 21, 2015 Posted December 21, 2015 The various arcade hardware and their respective games can be found here: http://www.system16.com/museum.php?id=1 There are a few pics of the different arcade cabinets too that might be useful, otherwise we're back to Google-fu.
bob.records Posted December 24, 2015 Posted December 24, 2015 Arcade mussuem has a few aswell, some games have inscreen instructions or maybe manuals might be worth checking. I agree colors ini is better that the xml for mame, thats why i thought a little app to import games into it would be useful. Using presets n drop down menus for colors be quicker that copy/paste into the txt file. Also a copy feature n bulk copy would be useful. As the mame wheel so large ive split neogeo off n set it as a system and us rl to send a custom ctrlr file to mame n set it the ledblinky xml, but it would be good to set them in colors aswell. Consoles are relatively easy to the arcades, i have nes/snes/ms/md/dc/ss/ps/ps2 setup if u need i can post any. Newoski what have you been working on?
