markelhombre
I've been building on a bartop arcade recently. it's based on the plans of the weecade, but i've made it a bit bigger, so i wouldn't have to deal with space issues. And it's nice to have some space when playing with a buddy :-) I've got the players buttons. I'm still thinking about the other buttons. Does anybody have an ideal combination of buttons? I don't want too much buttons, but i don't like the idea of shifting all the buttons. I'm affraid that i might press something during a game. I guess a player 1, player 2 and an exit button. And what else?

markelhombre
Did some painting yesterday! I'm not really sure about the artwork. My girl said she wanted to paint some graphics, but i like the smooth finish of a print as well...

markelhombre
That's a great idea! I'm also thinking about going to http://www.arcadepix.com/ Does anyone know what that will cost me? (ballpark) Because i want the buttons to have their function written under it. I think that will look nicer if it's made on a computer, instead of handpainted. But i might be wrong. markelhombre
Just a question about light reflection... Is there a good idea on what kind of stuff you put behind your light in the marquee? Of do you just use aluminum?
mikekim
Just standard aluminum foil wrapped over some cardboard. Sent from my Samsung Galaxy Note II.
markelhombre
Woodworking 101: Make sure your screws are not too long: Well, it's just the primer, so i't won't effect the paintjob. Got some sanding to do though. Put in the speakerboard. I got it from some old pc-speakers. They are 230v, and have more than sufficient power. However, i think i messed something up. 1 speaker is pumping at max power. You can see the cone trembling on that one. The other speaker is doing hardly anything. There is no balance knob, so i'm not sure what caused this difference. Can it be that is extended the wire of 1 speaker with some thicker wires? Maybe i changed the resistance to the speaker or something. Any electricians in the room?
Drnick
I have had that on speakers previously, first of all check the headphone connection itself. Try wiggling around a bit in the socket see if that makes any difference. Then its onto checking all the soldering. If you are worried about the wires replace them all with the same gauge. Failing all that it could be a knackered channel on the amp, swap speakers and see if problem stays on same side or moves to the other.
markelhombre
Well, the problem continued, and i couldn't find the cause. So i ended up replacing the amp. The new one is a lot smaller though. It works good, but the sound is not as good as before. But it's fine for now :-) If i come across a better one, i can always put that in.
markelhombre
Installed the hardware tonight. Easy to fit it in in the oversized weecade clone! Only problem is the viewing angle of the monitor. When i sit at my table, i am to low for the monitor. Standing up, i'm a tad to high for the buttons. Maybe a bar stool... I've got my artwork. Just need it to be printed out. I'm getting a quote from a local printshop, but that will be around €100 i guess. Got some worries about the tubelight. It gets warmer than i thought it would. We'll see i guess. richie_jones
Your viewing angle does look a bit shallow...id definately increase it even if it means moving your speakers...you'll gain a load of room inside also
markelhombre
I guess you're right. I was still in denial. So, back to the sawing table i think.
richie_jones
May as well do it right mate worth the effort, get some smaller speakers or mount them in the top... Or even the sides if you have to...
nitussi
Nice, very nice! Like the design.
markelhombre
Got some work done today. I improved the viewing angle. Still not perfect, but better than before. If I make it any steeper, the bezel will come out of the cabinet. Now i've got to replace the speakers to the topboard. I'm still waiting on the quote from the printshop.... I want to put the graphics on! Then i can install the cp.
richie_jones
Looking much better on the angle, you could increase the cp length but probably a load of work there... Speakers on the top panel can sound a bit distant to be honest, obviously all the sound is coming out the back, I've fitted some 1inch car tweeters in the panel where your speakers used to be and just wired them inline with the speaker wires. Sounds great now..
markelhombre
Yes, i'm still worried about the speakers. The speakers allready have 2 tweeters. So i think i'm gonna go with your idea and mount the tweeters in the lower panel. I can also mount the big speakers in the side, but that would be a shame for the artwork. richie_jones
Speakers in the top panel and tweeters underneath will sound fine.
markelhombre
Since my artwork arrived today, i finally got a chance to get some work done! I've put the decal on the CP. I drilled the extra holes for the service buttons. All the buttons installed! Began on the wiring: Getting the cableshoes on the wires is a hell of a job when you use this tool: I've found a nice color of paint that matches the artwork. Hopefully i can get it painted this week!
mikekim
looking good one item though.. I have found that its easier if you wire the button and joystick connections first before doing the ground wiring. example shown below..
markelhombre
Yeah, i figured that out as soon as i was finished with the ground cables. I just wanted to do some quick, rewarding work:-)
