Hey everyone! We've been making significant progress on improving startup speed in HyperSpin and optimizing cache performance. Internal testing shows that startup times are now 3-4x faster, and cache rebuild times have been reduced to just 2-3 seconds, which is approximately 10x faster. Fixes and Enhancements Emulators: Fixed an issue where the launch button on the edit screen only worked when using default directories. EmuMovies: Resolved an issue where high-quality settings were not working correctly. Cache: Added a "Sync All Media" option. Cache: Revalidation now shrinks the database and builds much quicker. Core: Prevented HyperSpin from launching multiple instances. Themes: Fixed Master System theme download issues. Themes: Updated the default HyperSpin theme. Systems: Fixed an issue where launching a game would refresh the game list to the top. Import: Stopped the importer from running by default. Installer: Fixed an issue where the installer would update the wrong directory. Downloads: Additional speed improvements implemented. Systems: Added cart, box back, and background views to the dropdown menu. Controller Support Update While making these improvements, we’ve also been working hard on new controller support for both HQ and HS. Internal testing will begin soon, and once it’s ready, we’ll roll it out to everyone. The major changes include: Support for more than 4 controllers (previously limited by the API we used). Expanded support for additional controller types. Many of you have brought us unique controllers I've never encountered before, and it’s been so much fun to figure out how they work and integrate them properly. Future Plans: ThemeBuilder Enhancements Once controller support is complete, we’ll shift our focus to ThemeBuilder improvements. Expect features such as: Group animations Child/linked animations Filters & shaders And much more! These updates will roll out incrementally throughout Q2, so stay tuned for more details. Thank You! A huge thank you to everyone who has been testing and providing feedback. The past few months have been some of the most rewarding in HyperSpin’s development, and we couldn’t have done it without your support. Happy gaming!8 points

Hey everyone! It’s been a few weeks since our last update, and we’ve been hard at work behind the scenes—especially on the Theme Engine, which has been our primary focus. Thanks to all the amazing feedback from the artist community, we’ve made huge strides toward what we think will be the most fun and flexible theme-building experience yet. Theme Engine Updates The latest build includes several major enhancements: New and improved UI controls A brand-new 3D Perspective Mode Faster load times in HyperSpin Better performance loading and rendering themes Coming Soon We’re continuing to build on this momentum with exciting new features that will roll out shortly: Shader support Element grouping Group-based animations If everything stays on schedule, HyperSpin and the next version of ThemeBuilder are expected to release next Friday. HyperHQ Improvements We’ve also been making important updates to HyperHQ, many of which were driven by user reports: Fixed bezel-related issues in the download process Updated EmuMovies login handling Bug fixes and improvements for Steam integration Resolved a startup hang issue reported by several users We’re also laying the groundwork for our next big milestone: a brand-new controller system for HyperSpin and HQ. Once the current HS update wraps, controller improvements will begin rolling out—bringing support to more device types and improving compatibility overall. Looking Ahead We’re moving to a bi-weekly release cycle, which will give us enough breathing room between builds to focus on bigger and more impactful updates as we head into summer. Final Thoughts A heartfelt thank you to everyone who’s been part of this journey—whether you’re testing, building themes, or sharing feedback. Your input has been instrumental in shaping HyperSpin’s next chapter. Even the critiques have been helpful, and it’s genuinely made this project exciting again. Hats off to all of you. Stay tuned—more updates are right around the corner! 2025-04-04_10-35-08.mp46 points

Hopefully they are scrapping it completely and looking at upgrading Hyperspin 1.5 instead. This is what we all want5 points

I'm just updated my laptop from Windows 10 to Windows 11(24h2). Hyperspin was running fine on Windows 11(24h2) until it took update (KB5053598). I believe there will be a lot more updates to be blocked. I'm assuming Windows 11 is requiring a digital signature from Hyperspin to run. Problematic update(s) on Windows 11(24h2) Uninstall the below update(s): KB5053598 KB5053656 Installed the Microsoft Show or Hide Updates Troubleshooter(link below) and hide the updates to avoid auto installation. https://download.microsoft.com/download/f/2/2/f22d5fdb-59cd-4275-8c95-1be17bf70b21/wushowhide.diagcab2 points

And this is why there is a backlash against this new Hyperspin 2. Should have just updated the old version, instead of reinventing the wheel.2 points

So far, only issue is with the Amiga Commodore themes not syncing. I also created a genre theme in HyperTheme and the theme is not syncing to my account. The genre list only contains MAME games, but the artwork does not sync to the custom list.1 point

I think communication could be better—like a roadmap or weekly updates on what's being worked on—but aside from that, I'm happy to let things cook in the oven.1 point

Hi hiperspiners! The third week of silence has begun ... Tell us what at least the process is going on now, what is the situation in development.1 point

So happy I found this place. I look forward to learning some things here and building my MAME cabinet with the help of many. I'll post another of what I have, what I want and all that cool stuff!! Thanks all!!1 point

Hi folks, Figured I'd put this out there. My HS setup is about 10-15 years old. Works on Windows 7 inside my cabinet and I've got a bunch of old emus (Stella, MESS, Daphne etc...) running. With HS2 coming, does it make sense to change to something newer? Retroarch has been suggested to me and I'm going to look into it. Based on some advice I've gotten I've downloaded the latest version of MAME and figured I'd look at the other emus. 1. What are the pros and cons of doing a Retroarch type solution vs just running the old systems. I'd love to hear what people think. @gigapig I'd love your opinion on this. 2. If I go down this path does Retroarch make the most sense or would you suggest an alternative system? Cheers!1 point

Thank you for including me in this discussion, I can only tell you what I do and that may not be best practice. My cab has also been set up for a long time and I've always used MAME standalone because I have my controls set and all my ini files, shaders, art work and bezels set up. I won't be using RetroArch for that. I do use RetroArch and it is set up for a lot of the console systems like SNES, Genesis, because it's initially easy and I love the Mega Bezel reflection shader and scanlines. What I don't like is, it can be complicated to set up on a deeper level, especially controls which I need a reminder on. I have controls working but it's a mystery how. It is nice having everything under one roof and it will be the go to emu for HS2. For the main computer systems e.g. C64, Spectrum, Amiga I use the standalone emu although they are not great on a cab. I can never remember the button shortcuts and so I just rely on my Rii mini keyboard to load saves etc. Most important thing is, have a backup, have fun and ask for help instead of getting frustrated.1 point

From what I can see... there are large problems with the Cache as well as other things. (It actually worked better in previous iterations... I think) THings seem to work in HyperHQ... but when transfering over to hyperspin. Nothing is being transferred over the way it should.. 1. Full screen videos arent working for anything 2. Wheels sometimes work... 3. The video in mame sometimes doesnt match the border. Not all the time though. 4. The boxart is getting stuck behind the wheels... not all the time though. 5. Ive only added 3 systems. Your version of mame, which seems to have better overrides but still not 100 perccent. My version of mame for testing to compare. And Atari 7800. MAME - My version - No overrides work... Meaning no media at all. MAME - Your Version - Some of the overrides work. Wheel overrides are ignored but show up in HyperHQ, your wheels with the weird codes show up though, Videos do seem to work. Themes dont work at all. Theyre just ignored. Atari 7800 - Wheel overrides seem to work. Main menu - Wheel overrides seem to work... I think... But not working for your version of mame. Ive renamed mame to "Arcade (MAME)" Theme Menu - Atari 7800 seems to work... Both mames dont Also the loading... for only 3 systems is getting quite long.. takes like 5 mins for the loading to complete when hyperspin is loaded. Also the media syncs also take a minute. And this is for 3 systems... Imagine adding a 100 or more....1 point

Hyperspin 2.0 is not Hyperspin anymore. By tying it all up behind encryption, no xmls , all having to use the same themes, can’t backup your files , it’s not portable and on and on is the reason why I want Hyperspin 1.5 updated instead. At best it will just be another Launchbox and that has a 7 year head start on Hyperspin 2. I bet if you had asked all your members what they wanted before you started Hyperspin 2 as it is , 90% would have said to rewrite Hyperspin 1.5 and keep it all as it was with improved resolution etc To not just upgrade Hyperspin 1.5 (which still to this day is THE GOAT of front ends) and go in another direction instead is just unbelievable. I have been a member for over a decade and have all fronts including Launchbox. None come close to Hyperspin. I hope I am proved wrong and Hyperspin 2 surpasses 1.5 , but I can already see it won’t. ps, Thanks for the reply1 point

Nothing to do other than hit the download button in the forum menu. Only platinum and content creators upwards can see that download afaik. im sure some of those FX3 themes would look great with the new HyperTheme tools!1 point

Unless he changes Hyperspin 2 completely and reverts back to using xml’s and making a portable system like Hyperspin 1.5 this is doomed from the start. There is NO way anyone is building a system with 100’s of wheels with it all being encrypted and no way to back it up or change it at will. Even Launchbox still uses xml and it’s portable so there is no excuse. I just can’t understand why Hyperspin 1.5 can’t just be updated from 1024x768 to 1920x1080 at least. Like the saying goes …. If it ain’t broke DON’T fix it.1 point

yes, but as i said now everything is gone, you didnt say beta but all the work you did will need to be redone each time. i would not have updated1 point

king91six, my friend this is BETA-TEST. There will be many more bugs and fixes here. No need to get angry, use version 1.5 for now as a base, and this version is still very unstable. You should have understood this, because they immediately said - this is a Beta test.1 point

First off, as a system dev/architect I am aware that what has been presented tonight is an enormous amount of work and I am grateful that work is being done to revamp HS again. This may be an unpopular opinion...but I think it is an incredibly HUGE mistake that Rlauncher support is absolutely no where in the new platform and HS functions as a standalone thing. I get that it is trying to serve simple users, but I think it's an oversighted design choice. It would be more intuitive to have Hyperspin be able to add Rlauncher as an emulator...query the systems in rlauncher and say 'hey, i see you have these systems already set up in rlauncher...let me import them into HS and grab the artwork assets for them'. I think of Rlauncher and hyperspin as a frontend and backend system....similar to Cloud with an application gateway serving an internal load balancer...Rlauncher would be the load balancer for emulators, and Hyperspin would be the application gateway. Hopefully this makes sense and is taken under consideration. I would be glad to clarify if needed. In the long run I am saying that rlauncher needs rebuilt too, but having integration into rlauncher and system query/import would allow for users to make a smoother transition as it stands today. Also, I just added Atari 2600 and it looks like Retroarch automatically downloaded and installed even though I chose to install a custom emu...feels like a bug Also, I've added NES and Atari 2600, it looks like sometimes wheel art is added instead of boxart and also sometimes nothing at all is added when I feel that there is boxart available. The Hyperspin button in the lower left doesn't seem to do anything. Please make the box art sizer slider a different color than purple or a more stand outtish color, it blends in with the default background really well and is hard to see if you don't know it's there. I have quite a few concerns with the file and folder names as they are imported ...perhaps that may be a mindset that i will need to break, but it seems that there is a cached version of artwork assets that I assume displays within Hyperhq and also the downloaded artwork asset that displays in hyperspin, Is there a reason for this? Also, I don't know if the names are supposed to be translated as readable, but when the boxarts downloaded they come in as (0a527a86-0671-4a24-9007-3090d77fde59.png) for example...is this expected? In terms of asset auditing, I think you should take your design queues from Hyper tools, I find it to be pretty top notch when it comes to auditing. What I like about it.... The grid layout with color coding yes/no availability The system select and being able to see all available artwork asset types for both hyperspin and rlauncher under a single pane of glass, some of the layout could be better for displaying artwork assets, but I think it's pretty close to being ideal for auditing.1 point

Hi. The indignation is not because the new version removed flash. Well, if it comes down to it, then everything worked fine and beautifully in HyperSpin 1. There were problems, but certainly not in the fact that something was displayed incorrectly or the animations were somehow wrong. Content makers are upset that now there is no control over many things. We cannot make and add missing media, we cannot choose what we want, and not what they give us. Previously, there were many different themes for each console, some themes changed HyperSpin so much that it was difficult to understand that it was him. Linking everything to online... Yesterday I spent an hour making a theme, and when I saved it, a login screen appeared and all my efforts were wasted.. People asked for HyperSpin 2, but not in the form that they are given now - that is the main reason for dissatisfaction. I'm sure that if everything that was in Hyperspin 1 was done in Hyperspin 2, simply switching from flash to a modern engine, most people would be happy....1 point

Fine. I am gone. I think I have made my views clear anyway and you are probably right there is no need for the unconstructive remarks. IMO, no matter what they do with this it will NEVER be as good as the Hyperspin/RL setup we all currently have. Maybe if they had consulted the members years ago and asked our opinions they would have all told them the way to go ... and this ain't that. Enjoy Hyperspin 2.0 people1 point

Hi all, After watching the live stream i wanted to download the beta release so i purchansed the platinum membership. But when ik try to login with my credentials i keep receiving incorrect Username or Password. After a little while i got through, but now i am stuck at the emumovies login and i have got a lifetime membership there. Any tips on how to move forward? Thanks for the help. Looking forward to test our this new (epic) version of HS. Lex EDIT: i think this had something to do with my VPN. Disabled it and i could login. So this has been solved.1 point

Shows that you are a "Content Creator". From what I recall... that should be equivalent or higher rank than Platinum. Are you not able to access the beta? Also, if you haven't logged in for a long time... You really need to make sure to reset your password to be able to access.1 point

I've been building a more formal bug tracking system. https://hyperspin-fe.com/development-bug-tracking/ This is open and available for submissions. I may need to tweak it, but it should be able to collect some decent data. Please submit all bugs on this tracker. We will be adding the link to the site here shortly.0 points

I know everyone is excited and just want to get up and playing. I too have been looking for a perfect front-end for my system for several years. Just like most of you, I have had a solid working HyperSpin 1 setup running for many many many years. It's time to move on from old tech... I've tested every front-end out there and have yet to find one that I've been happy with. Everyone needs to take a step back and understand what you are here for and why we decided to allow open testing... and if you aren't here for this, then come back once we are nearing RC. With HyperSpin 2, we have a fresh new start on an old favorite. We have the ability to help develop and groom something we've all been passionate about into something even better. This is the friggin HyperSpin 2.0 BETA. This is something that we've all been looking forward to hearing, and now seeing, for a decade now and here we are. Everyone here does understand what a "BETA" is correct? "Beta testing is a crucial phase of product development where a small group of users test a product in a real-world environment before its official release. The goal of beta testing is to identify and fix bugs and usability issues, and to ensure that the product meets user expectations." With that being said... RocketLauncher is something that we have all become accustomed to using in this hobby. We have become complacent and reliant on it. Yes, RocketLauncher support can be added and used in HyperSpin 2. RocketLauncher bypasses what HyperSpin 2 is trying to do. This is bypassing what we have opened the beta for. We are no longer testing apples to apples. You are no longer testing the current state of the available features and functionality of the application. Too many variables are being added for us to have a successful testing. Please... Help test the things that we really need tested. RocketLauncher is not currently one of those things.0 points
