The HyperSpin 2 early access beta is here!

We’re starting the first public testing phase with Platinum Members to keep the scope manageable while we test the current feature set and begin to add more. In the future, we’ll provide a version for basic members as well.  On behalf of the entire HyperSpin team, we look forward to another exciting adventure with our community.

Did something change with HS yesterday?

Up through Sunday night (23rd) my system was working flawlessly as usual. No issues, everything runs and loads fast and smooth etc...

Turn it off for the night.

Next day after work I turn it on and Hyperspin freezes as the main wheel loads on screen. While it freezes I realize the PC is trying to do a bunch at once: Steam started downloading something, my backup drive started a backup, AMD catalyst flickered on the screen for a sec trying to do something etc... After some task managering I managed to get it to exit from Hyperspin and restart. Restarts same thing, not responding. Let it sit forever to make sure any other processes have done their thing. No good. Queue 10's of restarts and test runs. Sometimes it will start, but lags badly, takes forever to load sub wheels or just locks up. Other programs seem fine. Taskmanager doesn't show any heavy loads. RocketLauncherUI seems to load right up and launch games fine. Launching PC games straight from Steam is fine and even taxing ones are running perfectly with no lag, slowdowns or issues. Web sites etc... all seem to run fine.

It really seems like it's just HyperSpin itself.

I reverted to a restore point from the 19th (when I know it was all working perfectly). Now it's a bit better (doesn't immediately lock up), but still no good, lags and eventually freezes. So I've run a Checkdisc on C: (no issues), currently it's running a Checkdisc on H: (where my HS install is), but so far no issues.

I'm wondering if re-doing my HS install would fix it, but I'm not sure how to go about it without overwriting or screwing something up.

Any tips, ideas, help anyone?

Exact same thing happened to me yesterday. Hyperspin sometimes stops responding at startup. Sometimes it resumes after a long time. Wheel scrolling lags like hell.

Exactly so maybe something is up. Sometimes stops responding at startup, sometimes resumes after sitting there forever, wheel lags like mad, entering sub wheels sometimes lags out etc...

What the hell man?

I'm on the latest 1.4. Downloaded when it was still in beta, but should still be the most current. I see that RocketLauncher pushed out updates (and a new version?), but I haven't manually updated any of it. Does RLauncher auto-update it's version? Could that be what's causing HyperSpin to run like ****?

Odd mine did the same thing, but mine was a fresh install without RL.  I was redoing the computer anyway for my cocktail build, so I wasn't upset.   Once I reinstalled windows on the C: Drive and updated everything I tried HS and it worked flawlessly.   Just so you know I didn't reinstall HS, it is on a separate drive and I just left it alone, if there was issues I would of uninstalled it.

RocketLauncher has nothing to do with HyperSpin becoming slow that's for sure, RL only starts running when you launch a game.

OK thanks, that's what I thought, but wasn't sure. checkdisc just finished on H: and no issues found.

Anyone point me to the steps to overwriting my important Hspin files without accidentally overwriting something I need?

I figure I can back up/rename my settings and emulators/roms folder. And my media folder. I just don't want to miss something and set myself back 10's of hours of work.

There was a Win 7 64 update on Sunday. Possibly that caused it? However taking the PC back to a prior restore point should have reverted that if it were the cause.

Well I just overwrote all the HS program files and left all the folders alone. Replaced everything and it didn't make a bit of difference.

Running a full virus scan now (quick scans find nothing) using MS security essentials. Looks like it will take it all night (already been running a couple hours).

Maybe it will find something.

Any suggestions would be great. If this doesn't work then I have no ideas other than reinstalling windows from scratch.

Honestly with the 100s of hours I spent getting it perfect I don't know if I'd want to do it again. More likely to sell the cab and get rid of it.

What version are you on?

I was using the older version when this happened but I updated to 1.4 to see if it would fix it. It didn't. I never update windows on my Arcade machine so it defenately isn't related to any windows updates.

Is hyperspin running as admin? What beta version are you using? If you use a different beta version and delete the script folder and resave it does it do anything?

I've had it happen a couple of times and thought it may have been an issue with the last system it landed on before shutdown, maybe a bad piece of wheel art. You could try editing the settings.INI and change or delete the last system or remove the wheel art.

To rule out the OS, download HS 1.3.3 and run it to see if the issue exist with that as well.

If it were a windows or driver update jumping to a restore point prior should have fixed it right?

Full scan finished over night and nothing found. I've restarted it and played with the wheel at least 30-40 times so if it was the last system it landed on originally that caused it I have no idea what that system was. I've been into and out of most of them at this point. I didn't add anything to it or change anything HS or RocketLauncher related over the 2 days up to it. Last Thursday I updated the Pinball Arcade module for RocketLauncher, but that all worked perfect.

I'll try reverting to HS 1.33 to see what happens.

The last time I used the machine, I updated Pinball FX2 and the module for it. Renamed some artwork and played a little. Worked great. The next time I started it I had this issue. I never do any windows updates on the machine and all other software is set to manual updates. I was using Hyperspin 1.33 when it first happened so the script folder mentioned by Ninja2cceen wasn't there when it happened. I tried updating to the official 1.4 version but that didn't help.. If I run hyperspin from another computer over network I don't have the issue. The first thing I tried was to update flash player. I was using Internet explorer on it and for some reason, the popup notification on the download page just wouldn't stay on screen so I could allow popups. I installed Google Chrome. Or so I thought. i Downloaded some shit that pretended to be Chrome and I got some bonus stuff installed with it. Luckily I managed to uninstall everything and installed a proper version on Chrome. I don't remember if there was a flash update available or not but it didn't fix the problem. I then did a quick virus scan and found something that I believed to be related to the shit that I accidentally installed. After removing that, the issue was actually gone and I shouted "HOORAY". However. The next day when I turned on the cab, the issue was back. I'm currently running a full system virus scan. We'll see what happens.

More testing.

Ran HS1.33 from it's own folder fresh from the download zip. 1st run it quit responding as soon as the main wheel showed up and crashed. I launched it again and it worked and I could hop into/out of wheels quick, themes loaded immediately everything it should do so I exited and launched my actual HS install. It ran great (first time since this happened) except that exiting from an emu/game would take you back to Hyperspin, but it didn't have focus. Other than that it all ran great so I rebooted.

After reboot it went straight back to not responding/lagging so I tried launching 1.33 again which quit responding and made my mouse only work within a small box on the screen for some reason. I also noticed that File explorer is running slow populating icon images etc... So I'm about to try running SFC from a command prompt to see if that helps anything. Frustrating.

This is pretty amazing. It's like you're using my cab :) This is really strange.

Well running SFC found a bunch of system files that were corrupted/needed repair, but a bunch that it says it can't repair (Running SFC /scannow also deleted a bunch of my custom shelled setup). However even though it repaired a bunch of files HS still completely locked up after rebooting. Next I'll try updating Win 7 through Sundays "critical update". If that doesn't work I'll try manually replacing the system files scannow couldn't automatically repair. And if that doesn't work I guess I'm stuck re-installing Windows.

******* sucks. I wish I knew what could have possibly caused this.

U haven't downloaded anything outside of hyperspin recently?

Nothing. Sunday the 23rd Windows automatically downloaded some official update. Worked perfect up till I turned it off Sunday afternoon.

Monday when I turned it on as it was booting Steam gave a message that it was updating. AMD catalyst flashed a message (probably about updating), but it got blocked by the HyperSpin startup vid becfore I could tell what it said. At that same time my Seagate Backup drive also started trying to do a full backup Although I didn't realize that until later)

Hyperspin quit responding and after messing with it for a couple minutes I rebooted it with no improvement.

One or a combination of those things must have screwed it up. Maybe trying to update at the same time it's trying to backup at the same time I rebooted... who knows.

Well fully updated Win 7 and launched HS and for the first time it actually locked during the opening cinematic... so it seems to have gotten worse.

I'm rerunning scannow because after reading it looks like you need to run it a few times before it will fix everything, plus there's another tool you can use with it.

Trying that now.

Man dudes. Sounds like both of you have a shelled version of windows?

Maybe run a log from rocketlauncher and compare you computer specs too? They may be identical?
