Photoshop/artwork Live Tutorial/Masterclass

My tip would be to just hover over the tools used in the toolbar and it'll show you the shortcut. In the top menus it'll show it anyway. But you can of course just go to the preferences to see the entire list of shortcut key combinations. Just write down what you need.

What I did was, when selecting a tool, look what the shortcut is and try to use it. You'll learn em by heart soon enough and when you forget just look it up again

I do know most of em by now, but it's easy for someone who doesn't know em already to get the repetition from the video. I made that comment because on this channel dedicated to Photoshop tutorials the dude mentions every time when he performs an action what the shortcut is. And it surely helped me to get em memorized faster cause you are constantly reminded.

Got requested a simple logo. Found a good free program to record. Thought might as well share (yes, because of recording I'm working rather slowly)

recorded with Open Broadcaster

Nice!

You know you can just drag the locked background layer on top of the new layer symbol to unlock it right? :) that way you don't need to create a new file.

Yeah, I actually know this. But was just awake and had some more hiccups along the way you can easily spot ;)

However, what I can't seem to figure out is how to remove an accidentally added marker to the shape's gradient fill. This has baffled me before, because I would think there is an easy way to remove a marker just like with gradient overlay layer styles.

I'm not sure if I understood correctly but id this is what you mean you just click and drag them downwards to remove a point like this: (you can also copy points by alt+drag)

This is a pretty basic adobe thing, works the same in many applications like markers in premiere.

Thanks, yes, dragging them downwards helps. I'm used to pressing the Delete button, which isn't in the shape attributes drop down menu.

No time, just was a little slower because of it, other than that, I didn't edit the vid. So no real extra time spent over just redrawing it.

very nice, is there a way to use a photo within a rounded rectangle shape with a pattern overlay and borders, the way i do it it will bleed out of the corners even though I lower opacity. Not only do I do hyperspin but Im doing bartop arcade themes/graphics.

Thanks! I'm absolutely positive there is a way to do that, but I'm afraid I'm not really sure what you mean. Do you have an example image or can you explain a bit more?

Here is a pic of a CP, the bottom rouned rectangle has a border and carbon fiber overlay. I place a pic behind it but if you notice the ends of the border are shaded from the pic. I want to place the image within the solid white borders. Im probably going about it the wrong way?

If I understood you correctly you should be able to just use the magic wand tool inside the rounded shape (with the rounded shape selected) and then just add that as a mask to the image you want to be inside that.

If you have the rounded shape as a vector shape you will have to make a rasterized version of it first, but that's easy...just duplicate the rounded shape layer and right click on it and select rasterize layer.

That should do it.

Or just select the shape with round corners in PS and follow the lines of the white outline with that. then create path and select the image layer and copy it. then place it on top of the white rounded image....if you use magic wand on it then it wont look good on 300dpi you will see the jagged edges in the corners

Actually...you can just use the magnetic lasso tool to select anywhere inside the border (inside the white part) and add that as a mask to the image and place it behind the border.

I'll post a video on a couple of ways to do what you want tomorrow...need to get some sleep right now ;)

How about a tutorial on cleaning up artwork? I see the cleaned up covers from JayC and DamnedResgistrations and it looks much better than mine.

Yeah, I actually have plans for a art cleaning tutorial. I think your cleaned boxes look great btw.

drewjbx1-> Here you go, hope it helps...and if I totally missed the point of your question just say so and I'll try again lol:

Ok it worked... I did it a little different. The carbon fiber I used was not a pic, rather a pattern overlay from the FX option for the rectangle shape. This allows to adjust scale and opacity of the pattern. The green striped background is the pic I wanted behind it. I placed pic behind rectangle and masked it, then rather than lowering opacity to make it visible (this would also make the white border see thru) I just adjusted the fill percerntage. Thanks JayC... Im sure I will have other questions if you wont mind sharing :)

Looking good!

The thing I like most about Ps is that you can do the same thing in like a hundred ways ;) You can learn something new in your toolbox from the simplest tip.

I will make more of these when I have time and feel like it. And if anyone have questions, hey...just ask. I'll try to explain or come up with a solution that works.

Cheers!
