JayC Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 I was thinking about making some new artwork tutorials and thought...why not teach live through a video chat or group meeting instead? I know at least I would have liked that at many times...to just drop by and ask, how do I do this or can you show me how you would do that, would have been very helpful at times. I honestly don't have any idea how I would do this, I've done stuff like this on work many years ago but there where software in the company I worked for then. I know SimplyAustin did something like this at some point so it have to be possible. So what would I need? Is there any good software for this? I would basically just need to stream my screen and sound and for others to join the stream and be able to talk back or chat with me. The other thing is of course the time difference...since I'm in Finland most people in USA are asleep during daytime here and vice versa. I would be able to do one session tommorrow sometime between 1pm and 7pm GMT+2. So it would probably be more for Europe based people at least this time. What do you think? Is there any interest at all for something like this? If not I'll just use the time to make more artwork lol. If there is interest then great, and if anyone has topics they would want to discuss then you could always ask them in advance if there's something I need to set up. So yeah...the three questions: 1. What software should I use for this? 2. Is there any interest? 3. Is there anyone that would have time to join? Thanks!
fire10 Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 Sounds incredible JayC im in the UK so would love to join up and learn, I wont be able to do it just yet as im on shifts but will let you know when im off. I can have PS ready and any other programs needed if given some notice. Nice one mate Fire10
gigapig Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 This does sound like a great idea, it would be good to record the stream and have that available for peoples reference; my memory is terrible from years of abuse. The vidoes can then go to the tutorials section.
JayC Posted November 12, 2015 Author Posted November 12, 2015 Thanks guys! That's a great idea Giga, they could work as tutorials for anyone later on that didn't have time to join.
JayC Posted November 12, 2015 Author Posted November 12, 2015 Maybe TeamViewer would work good enough? I made a sceduled meeting for tomorrow, let's see if it works It's scheduled from 15:00-18:00 UTC +2 Hello, Please join the meeting, by clicking on this link: http://go.teamviewer.com/v10/m77167136 Meeting ID: m77-167-136

JayC Posted November 12, 2015 Author Posted November 12, 2015 Lol...well at least it seems to be working and it even has built in recording of the session plus that we could even use remote access to help on your own local machine if needed. Seems it's active all the time but the sceduling is just something to remind me. Participants need either the full (free) version of Teamviewer or the meeting app version, both found at Teamviewer website.
drewjbx1 Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 Yes! Would love to learn more advanced photoshop especially for cabinet graphics , like giga's idea of recording stream as well, will be following this thread... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
JayC Posted November 12, 2015 Author Posted November 12, 2015 cool...I'll probably be here most part of the day so I changed the meeting time to 14:00 to 19:00 UMT+2
SUBZERO Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 Very cool idea!.........i would already start making a list here to see what people want to know and learn
SeanDyer87 Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 if im online at the time count me in always willing to learn more things
JayC Posted November 12, 2015 Author Posted November 12, 2015 Nice...the more the merrier right? I'm trying to find a good time that would work in the US as well...is there any particular time of day that could work for as many as possible? I'm pretty flexible, but I don't think there's any point in trying to teach other PS at 5 o'clock in the morning lol. Maybe Sunday would work? I know the time difference sucks, but as long as we have anyone joining I bet the recorded video can teach others a lot I'll be using a headset btw...so I'll be talking...and I just want you guys to know that English isn't my first language lol. The particiapants won't need to talk of course. Teamviewer has a chat function as wel so that can be used Just be sure to install the full version of Teamviewer or the QuickJoin application just for joining the meeting.
drewjbx1 Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 Very cool idea!.........i would already start making a list here to see what people want to know and learn I know very little... But I think the basics of layers and paths then tracing, pen tool, outlining buttons on control panel for example... Tracing patterns or make 1:1 template of a pattern. Import and blend photos and graphics, nesting.. Etc Illustrator for vector graphics is a whole other topic I assume Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
JayC Posted November 12, 2015 Author Posted November 12, 2015 I use Photoshop almost exclusively for vector art, so that can and probably will be a big part of the workshop. A I plan to try and stay online in the session as long as possible I will probably have to cut it down to a uploadable video in the end.
drewjbx1 Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 I work 12 hr days so if I miss the online session I hope for a video of it ... Looking forward to this! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Yeuxkes Posted November 13, 2015 Posted November 13, 2015 Count me in. I'm always eager to learn new things. Does one need the latest version of Teamviewer (I'm currently running version 9.0) ?

JayC Posted November 13, 2015 Author Posted November 13, 2015 Take gigapigs word for it as I honestly don't know...and I haven't ever used the meeting option. Still you can just get the quickjoin app as well.
SeanDyer87 Posted November 13, 2015 Posted November 13, 2015 Still going! you showed some good techniques will deffinately watch the recorded session again to refresh some things when you get it uploaded
JayC Posted November 13, 2015 Author Posted November 13, 2015 Thank you once again I just realized the chat window didn't get recorded haha...now I really sound like a crazy guy talking to myself lol. Maybe I can write them in afterwards.
fire10 Posted November 13, 2015 Posted November 13, 2015 I knew this was going to be great gutted I couldn't make this one. Great idea JayC
Yeuxkes Posted November 13, 2015 Posted November 13, 2015 Thanks again for the tutorials/workshop today! Watching how it's done made me realize it's not that difficult at all except for when you have crappy scans to begin with. On an added note @Gigapig was not entirely correct tho, I updated to the latest version of Teamviewer (11.0.51091) and couldn't connect at first, but the quickjoin app did the trick. And to summarize, I would like to offer my help in creating art. Is there anywhere I can sign up? Maybe to a test of some sort? Somebody to pm? Let me know ^^
