But how do I know that I won't do a job that's already been done? Just saying to start is easy if you don't know where to begin lol

Thank you once again :)

I just realized the chat window didn't get recorded haha...now I really sound like a crazy guy talking to myself lol.

Maybe I can write them in afterwards.

No thank you mate for taking the time to help teach others :) and haha maybe you should let people think you are crazy person who talks to himself lol but yh could always copy the chat in manually if you feel the need to although i dont think we said anything to intersting lol anyways thanks again mate look forward to seeing more :)

Thanks again! I will absolutely do more of these, there are a lot of harder stuff to do as well...but it takes time and I'm not sure when I'll be able to do the next session...maybe it should be a bit shorter as well lol...5 hours straight was pretty hardcore lol.

If you are interested in contributing, the PSX wheel thread is a good place, there are a lot in there that aren't that hard to do but there is also a lot of harder ones among them as well. But checkk out that thread...that set is long overdue and we aren't that many that work on it. But I'm certain there are wheels you can make without problem. And we are many here that will guide you if you have problems :)

Okay I will go have a look over there. One other thing tho. I never posted much on forums and I'm trying to embed an image for a theme I created and followed THK's guide but whenever I do I get an error message that "You are not allowed to use that image extension on this community." So what seems to be the problem here? It's an imgur link. The noob  is strong today  :shok:

Glad it worked out JayC, any idea how many people watched?

At one point there were like 5 or 6 viewers. I think it was really successful.

Posted

Yeah like 5-6 at most at one time, so I'm glad there was interest :)

When using imgur, just copy the BBCode Forums link straight into the thread!

SHIT!

It seems like I forgot to check the show mouse pointer when I recorded the session...now I have video without visible chat screen AND mouse pointer. These videos will make no sense at all... aaaargh.

Maybe I can make something out of them with some heavy editing...not sure how. Maybe someone still can learn something somehow.

Anyway, it wasn't wasted time since It had live attenders.

It wasn't wasted at all. Because of that workshop I ended up spending my weekend creating wheel art for the playstation. And I'm afraid to admit it but I like it. This Hyperspin is a dangerous hobby!  :woot:

Bummed I misssed the session.... But I was thinkin you could always start up a you tube channel and do episodic tutorials from beginner level to more advanced... would probably take alot of time and effort but would be a great resource for alot of people... just a thought.

Posted

Yeah I was thinking the same, but wanted to try the online thing as it's so easy to miss something if I do them on my own...with the live session the attendees could easily just ask something and I could show it to them. But I will make a bunch of basic videos at least and see how that goes. Going to start with redrawing and cutting. I did both on the live session but since I don't think any of it really can be used I might as well do them again.

There will probably be more live sessions at some point though because I like the idea and it worked great (well except for the recording). Would be cool to have attendees with microphone as well as chat.

I have a mic but since I knew you were going to record it for later use, I chose not to use it. I figured it would be a nuisance for the others who would watch it afterwards.

If you want future ideas for tutorials I can give some insight as to the difficulties I currently have making wheels.

Photoshop has so many effects, how do I know which one was used in the source image, the chrome effect of the motorhead wheel comes to mind.
The mini tutorial from DR on the fade-in was also very useful to know.
Sometimes I find myself fiddling with sliders and effects only to realize it would be better to split them up in separate layers.

That's it for now, I'll add more if something comes to mind. And I'm looking forward for the next live session or just any of your tutorials!

Posted

Yeah, didn't really think about that, maybe not all want to be recorded :) Thanks for that! Maybe we skip the recording for some of these. Would be cool to be able to communicate directly somehow.

Photoshop FX is definitely going to be a topic worth making a video, thanks for the idea.

There will probably be a set of short tips and tricks as there are so many.

Other tips are welcome.

Yay, here's the first video tutorial, it's a basic redraw video but there is a whole lot of information in it and it's like 40min long, enjoy (and sorry for the bad English)

Great first video... Easy to understand and good starting point for beginners, learned quite a few things that I thought was difficult but is straight forward and simple.. Hope to see more, thanks for sharing the knowledge!

Just finished watching and loved it. Some very good tips and trick, I particularly liked the way you got the drop shadow.

Great voice too, thought I was being taught by a Viking ;)

Viking...lol

Thanks guys! I Really appreciate it. I was thinking about making a list of video tutorials and would like your input for them. So post whatever things you'd like and how in-depth they should be.

Here's some chapters I was thinking of doing:

Cutting out art properly (with the pen tool)

Text tools (how to find and modify fonts to create the wheels and artwork)

Photoshop effects (go through the different effects)

Blending modes?

Cleaning artwork

Restoring artwork?

Batch processing/Actions

Making 3D boxes (basics)

More advanced redrawing

Masks

Texture/patterns/brushes

There should probably be some really basic PS tutorials for the beginners, but I don't think I'm the best person to make them, instead I will try to make every single tutorial understandable for everyone and I try to explain the basics as well as the advanced stuff. That way you will all have to watch all the tutorials lol :P

Please chime in if you have any other suggestions.

Maybe put masks a little higher on the list as it applicable with Blending modes/Cleaning/Restoring artwork. As different parts of art require different solutions and masks is how to blend the pieces together.

Wow.. I would soak it all in, I cant give much input until I learn more im afraid. But maybe include how to do background transparencies which sounds like blending modes? Anyhow look forward to more!

Really great video , I can't believe I never knew the straighten image tool how much time that is going to save me at work is brillant thank you very much. Can't wait for the next one.

Great first tutorial JayC, I forgot to comment when you posted that one. If I'm allowed to make a critique then it would be to maybe iterate more on which shortcut keys to use, even if it's tedious to do. Like you mentioned in the live session those will speed up the workflow tremendously.

Filters should also be on that list, but maybe you got that covered on the cleaning/restoring tutorial. The same applies to adjustment layers but again this could be tied in under the masks section?

And it's good that you think about the beginners but there's already a plethora of good tutorials to be found on youtube. If you go that route you will not have any time left to do actual artwork for Hyperspin and end up spending all of your free time making tutorials. :P

This might be just me but could you do a mini tutorial on the general preferences of photoshop too? I'm not entirely sure what are the best options to pick for cursors and there's the "snap vector & transform tools to pixel grid" which leaves me doubtful on what to choose.

And again you did a stellar job on that tutorial, I would like to see more!

Excellent video JayC! I was sidetracked by this thread, but I'm

glad that I was because I learned a few things too. Even someone

like me, who's been using PS for a little over a year now, can

always learn something new. Viking-power! :viking:

Very much appreciated. :)

Bravo brother.

Very informative and will most definitely be implemented immediately in how I go about preparing images that go into my themes.

True Professionalism. Top Notch.

My tip would be to just hover over the tools used in the toolbar and it'll show you the shortcut. In the top menus it'll show it anyway. But you can of course just go to the preferences to see the entire list of shortcut key combinations. Just write down what you need.

What I did was, when selecting a tool, look what the shortcut is and try to use it. You'll learn em by heart soon enough and when you forget just look it up again
