It's being worked on. we have to work around it for a while with the nice solutions Dark13 has made to convert themes to widescreen.

Most of us don't use full screen stretch! We use bezels to game game ratios at 4:3 as they were meant to be. The only thing that gets stretched are the menus and artwork.

I was in the process of converting all existing themes to 16:9. I have dl links on my videos right now and will be uploading to Download section soon, when I have time others have converted a good chunk of the main menmu/system themes to widescreen and I'll have the remainder of supported systems done in the next week or so. HyperSpin Cinematic offers 1080o themes as well. As for wheels/boxes/carts and frontend art, you can batch resize them to .75 of their original width and they will display at the correct aspect ratio in widescreen display. The limitation at present is in HyperSpin itself, not HyperTheme and it's being worked on.

There are also a number of very nice 16:9 unified themes and Aeon Nox, which looks fantastic.

support for other resolutions/aspect ratios is only relevant if the actual FE supports them. Currently it's a workaround and implementing it in HT is kinda weird.

Native resolution support is nice and all...

but when fullscreen already stretches everything, I just don't see the need for it.

But it's the stretching that makes them not look right.

I don't know, I just disagree it seems. It doesn't make any difference in my eyes to go from 4:3 to 16:9.

Honestly, IMO, it looks better to be stretched than to have letterboxes on the side. Be it for gameplay or HyperSpin themes.

Designing a theme with ratio correction makes it looks better on 16:9. Just skip at 1.55 this video

As you can see the difference is visible even in text. The scrolling text uses the same fonts of the static text BUT it looks worse as it is using a 4:3 ratio.

Designing a them at native 16:9 then convert everything for 1024*768 is pretty easy, just design everything at 1080p or 720p then use my flash .jsfl script to apply ratio correction in flash (you don't need to know how to use flash, you only need flash t obe installed, the scripts will convert from .png to .swf with smooth and ratio correction)

Once aware of the skewing I find it impossible to ignore personally. Makes me happy to see so much 16:9 love lately.
