Should I Upgrade?

I just signed in last night for the first time since 2010 and I see that there's a newer version or I should say a few newer versions since then. I'm not sure what version I have at this point, but it seems to still be doing just fine. Are there any advantages/disadvantages to upgrading?

If you're happy, just leave it alone. If you're not, there is a lot of great new emulators, games, artwork, videos, features, etc..

An upgrade from 2010 will be a lot of work since it would mean:

- upgrading to RocketLaucher

- upgrading your databases

- renaming a lot of your roms

- updating most of your emulators

Let's face it, you're better off starting a new build from scratch. At least this way if your think it's too much work you can just revert back to your old build.

You might try the pre-built image in the download section and see if that might be an option.

Wow 2010! A whole lot has changed since then. New versions of almost everything! RocketLauncher adds a bunch of features to the now defunct Hyperlaunch. That being said... if your setup works good and looks great to you, why bother? Maybe if you eventually find something that just won't work, then look at upgrading. Just saying, you may end up jumping through many hoops to get the simple things that already work in your rig working. Before you even get to a point of look at what you were missing.

Actually, just noticed you are platinum. Download Giga's 51 system build onto a separate drive for a test spin!

LOL,  you are not upgrading.  You are replacing your entire system.

if you don't care for the new features keep your system.  the only thing you should upgrade is the Media

their should be better looking media available now compared to what you have.

You will not be able to upgrade your videos since they are now in MP4 format,  and you are running FLV videos.

I assume you won't have HyperSync to download any missing media. You could give the Hyperbase Live beta a try but it's best not to add it to you current setup at this stage. It also does not work with XP if that is your OS.

Ok I played around with the pre built and decided I don't really have the time right now to configure everything. Will the wheels and themes from the newer versions work with my old version? I think I'd just like to change it up for now until I have time to start over with the new version

Out of curiosity but are you running Hyperlaunch 1 or Hyperlaunch 2?

if you are running Hyperlaunch 2  then your life will be much easier.

You can keep your current system,

Update:

Database

Media (hold of on the videos if you are using an older version of HS 1.3)

Rename your roms to match the latest XMLs

Emulators (don't delete your current emulator until you made sure your HL2 module works with the latest emulator version)

You can keep your current system as is and yo will not break anything ( you will probably just need to update emulator paths in HyperspinHQ)

If or when you are ready to upgrade to the latest version of Hyperspin and RL

You can Drag and drop your:

Media  folder

Data Base folder

Settings folder

into GigaPigs pre built system

you will keep all your System Settings.  the only ting you will have to do is Configure  Rocketlauner

Whatever version was out in December 2009. When I click on about, it doesn't show anything. Is there somewhere else to look for the version?

I have no idea when Hyperlaunch 2 was released

did you set this up, or did someone set this up for you?

they are very distinct set ups,  one requires you to modify code for each emulator and compile your Hyperlaunch.AHK

the other requires you to download specific pre built modules for each emulator.

the more I think about it,  you can do what I have described in my previous post even if you are in Hyperlaunch 1

the only problem you will have is with the multi disc systems

Hyperlaunch 1  =  Disc Name (Disc #)  (Region)

Hyperlaunch2, hyperlaunch_3, Rocketlauncher =Disc Name (Region) (Disc #)

only the naming convention and launching on your multi disc base systems will be broken if you update to the most current databases. (if you are on Hyperlaunch 1)

(and you are probably better of keeping your current emulators)

I built the system myself back then. Unfortunately my drive went out earlier today, and I can't find the backups that I had from that time. I guess I will be completely starting over at this point which makes me sick.

Well help is at hand Bro. As you are a platinum member you can get started with the 51 system build from the downloads section. You may need to read the support thread and maybe some guides but all is not lost.

Ok so I've been working on this for the past day. Where do I find the wheels and themes to download? Also, I remember that I was able to filter out all of the junk games on MAME and other systems, and only display the good ones, how do I do that? I'll create another thread for help as I go, but I figured I'd reach out on this one real quick.
