adamg Posted July 20, 2016 Posted July 20, 2016 Alright, as is my typical luck as of late, I have more bad news to share. I am not a linux expert nor do I know if these two events correlate but here is what I think happened. Tuesday I downloaded a Linux Live CD image to install on a usb drive in order to alter the file structure of my raspberry pi image. Drives may say 32 gb but one maybe be 28.1 gb and another 29.1 gb. Well that was my issue. My main image was larger than some of the cards that I needed to copy it to and I read that you could truncate data with linux so I set about doing that. I had a windows update on Tuesday that needed to be installed so after I downloaded the linux distro, I restarted my pc. That is when the issues started. When it came back up it would not get past a black screen with a blinking white cursor. In my experience that means a peripheral is screwed up, a driver or something similar is bad. So from the update I thought maybe it messed something up. I had to remove all of my cords but the power cord and the HDMI cable in order for it to finally get to a screen that said keyboard error. I plugged in a keyboard and of course the black screen came back. I fan dangled it to where i plugged in the keyboard and kept pressing the esc key to enter bios. From there I tried to restore my disk to a previous state but the pc just shut off once I selected the system restore. When it came back up, it would just say "boot disk not detected or the disk has failed". TL:DR Not only did I delete my external drive with all my media but now my pc disk has failed. I took it out and sure enough the thing will not even spin up now. Man this month is going to kill me.
