- Introduction - (WIP)

Hello community
xALPHAxOMEGAx here, your favorite friendly neighborhood scrub.
JSinn and I were talking about forming a tight nit group to collaborate to get more done and better keep track of whats going on in the community
i believe the hype. the hyperspin community is amazing.
i know everyone is doing lots of work behind the scenes and i think we could be even better if we formed together like voltron to spirtbomb the tasks at hand

using spreadsheets to better attack the work load so no time is being wasted by people working on the same project unknowingly

After collaborating with JSinn to make the Spinning GameCube Boxes it inspired me to want to do more

id love to attack
XMLs
Videos
Boxes
Carts
Wheels
System Images
System Logos

with accuracy of the original content and quality being top priority

this first post isn't perfect but ill update it if we get some interest in the topic
if some one can write a better one let me know
not trying to be the leader i just have a vision of us all working closer together

so leave some comments with feedback if you're interested and would like to further the cause
id love to know what every one is working on and know everyone's skill set because even the smallest skills can be a big help

Will be coming up with job details, goals, and other stuff soon

Alrighty, let's see if I can get something started over here.

(sorta notes of my projects)

My current works:

For some reason I'm stuck in GameCube-land, maybe it's because I never had a Cube

or probably because it was a good DVD based system to get good at making media before

moving on to better consoles.

-In order to get my GameCube wheel to where I want it-

  • I've been working on a 16:9 System Default theme (easily customizable, more details soon)
  • We need a decent wheel set (I think Sub-Zero was working on it way back?, can't find any threads)
  • We need a good set of Discs (all types of sets) (Omega has started collecting these)

Old Projects:

(projects I started but never finished)

Nintendo Game Boy - Boxes and Carts (mainly redrawing Japan set)

Nintendo WiiWare - Wheels and Boxes need a rework

Projects in the works:

Nintendo Wii - SeanDyer87 and Omega have started collecting full covers

Sony PlayStation 2 - I have acquired 32assassin's collected work (HQ scans)

You can bake it, you can boil it, you can fry it . . . . . that's about it!

Is this going to be another hyperspin project where everything gets locket away and no one else ever gets to see what was done?

That's non-sense. I've already released a few projects.

5 sets of GameCube boxes for one.

A set of Wii-U boxes that I made with Blackhazor.

WiiWare boxes. . . . what else can I think of?

You got to see the Gamecube art that was done/collected by most of us in this room didnt you? but to answer your question once all art has been collected etc... and is complete and accurate it would be shared that is the goal here to make everyones setups look as best as possible of course the more of the community that help the faster things will get completed.

P.S sorry if my 1st statement seems a bit rude i don't intend for it to be that way

"HyperSpin United?"

Calm down Alpha... Trust me, we'll be doin this shit for the rest of our lives.

lol

Don't worry though I agree with your call to arms. As new ideas are introduced the need for more artists and organization are key.

How do you propose this gets done? Currently we have the hypervault. The problem with it is that you need to request permission to access a certain system, meaning that if you get bored and want to work on something else, you can't.

Could we open up the FTP again? That way people can freely contribute whatever bit they like. Have a folder for raw artwork, one for cleaned up artwork and one for approved artwork. People can just contribute their findings or their finished product. No one needs to fell like theymust work on one thing full time.

By the way, there is a complete wheel for the gamecube already. Does it need to be redone again? Systems like the Famicom, PC-Engine and MSX are in desperate need of wheel work.

Im not sure if theyre is another good alternative other than the HyperVault the problem with your idea about the FTP it would mean people (myself included) would not be able to contribute due to not being Platinum members which would then restrict the amount of people able to help with things.

google has nice spreadsheets that multiple people can edit at the same time

google has really good download speeds for everyone

i like the vault. its easily accessible for me  rather than loading up an ftp program

lots of people are not premium members so they cant access the ftp and i dont have the money to host something separate

my main concern about letting everyone and their brother access and edit stuff in the vault would be trolls. someone going to town moving things deleting things etc

the vault is not mine so i don't know   i just use it cus its nearby nice and easy.  lots of space.

well figure all things out as we go its just important everyone is patient and friendly.

im just one man all things can be discussed further and agreed apon as we go.

itll never be a do this or die mission.

everyone is free to work at their own pace and contribute what they want.

we can all get to know what each other is good at and work together more efficiently

when you have multiple people tackling the same thing it goes by so fast

me and seandyer are destroying this wii cover list as we speak.

we can decide on what kinds of jobs there are to be done. if youd like something assigned to you to match your skill set it can be done etc

we can decide on what we should tackle first. take polls etc

i just have a dream lets make it happen?

I would help out but not many/any skills just yet. Boring repetitive tasks I can do.

Do things really get locked away or do they just never get completed and fizzled out with knowing able to access the files?

My thoughts would be to have a couple of gatekeepers. EVERYONE can upload what they have to a place and then a couple of authorities can pick out what's needed. Put that in a locked space for those with the ability to sort it and use.

Not a fan of completely open source myself. Quality has to be controlled and mistakes minimised.

Oh a ordered list of projects then ONLY work on ONE until it's done. People can chip in when a project they like hits the top of the list.

theres plenty of boring repetitive things you can do,   me and sean are currently downloading a large percent of full wii covers.

collecting the source art for photoshoppers to use is a giant part of most projects its the backbone if you will

people who have amazing photoshop skills shouldnt have to waste their time gathering source art

i like to keep JSinn supplied with more stuff than he can catch up on.

i have some photoshop ,and other misc skills but alot of what i do is use google to find artwork

anything me and JSinn make isn't going to be locked away and hidden for ever. it will be put out to the public when its ready.

we will get things fine tuned and working with everyone's help. just one step at a time

first step would be to get a core group going to agree on things and get the ball rolling

i have a voice chat program called Discord.

you can text, and voice chat. send images and other small files i think it would be a good start to get a core group linked up on there and decide things together

i made a server if any one is interested in linking up on there

I think you hit the nail on the head it's not stuff dont get released most the time it seems more like for some reason or another it don't get finished in most cases and yeah like Omega said theres plenty of easy/tedious tasks to do but some times I find the tedious stuff fun plus without all the tedious work we wouldnt have most of the beautifull art that we have around this community :)

although i kind of agree i also disagree as stopping people from working on what they want to work on might stop them from helping all together also I dont think it matters if people work on more than one thing aslong as we have a way of tracking what is being done we should be ok.

It sounds to me,that people are trying to make Hyperspin more attractive,to incourage new members.

The lack of Development on the core system and the new Kid on the block,LB/BB,seems to have some people worried.

Yes,I know there has been a lot of hard work, going on in the background,by a lot of dedicated members, with lots of artwork and the Data Bases being updated, but Hyperspin is still a beast to set up and keep updated.

If Hyperspin was still in Development and was a lot easier to get setup, off the bat,a lot more people would be setting up their own systems and not forced to go down the road of buying Dodgy Hard-drives off the net or looking at more update front ends.

I am sorry if I've effended anyone, this post is not meant to, as I said, there is still a lot of Hard work going on behind the scenes.

Posted

The hyperspin project was something that the newer members might not be familiar with. People could work on anything they wanted. A lot of stuff got finished, but the idea was to not release anything until a system was 100% finished. This resulted in years of work never being released. As far as I know, nothing from that project has ever been released to the public.
