I think the same concept would apply and that is what RL has PCLauncher for. I have not tested this as I just wanted search on my main menu as an option. I think you could do a Utility wheel and setup PC Launcher as the emulator or alternative emulator for hypersearch entry. Then have have that launch my script some how. You would need to build your own XML with entries for your hyperhelp wheel and have pclauncher extension for .vbs maybe?. You should be able to play around with it and test it out and see if it works.

Just an idea.... I won't be able to test unfortunately but takes no scripting knowledge just messing around with RL settings and your XMLs

1. Save script to hyperseacrh folder save as vbs

Set WshShell = my path to hypersearch WScript.CreateObject("WScript.Shell")

wshShell.AppActivate "HyperSpin"

WshShell.SendKeys "{F3}"

2 hyperhq set to vbs and pc game

Works great on my setup. Had a couple noobies over and less buttons to remember on how to get to stuff. So thanks for the idea. They never used anything but search off my main menu.

In summary, I think the minimize feature doesn't work, the back button request is still needed I think preferably or a hotkey please. I got a few favorite errors in my log though I didn't notice it until I reviewed it. Finally if you have hyperspeech set up, you may notice a pop up error show behind hypersearch briefly. Also thinking about it, it may be nice to allow for full screen? Right now it shows up in the center of the screen, maybe allow for the option to default full screen or windowed? Also it appears that if you use the search feature, find a game, then go back to hyperspin and try and launch the search again, it appears that the original search closes hypersearch rather than minimize it. It should probably stay open and just minimize it for later use instead or the hotkeys f1,f2,f3 should pull up the app altogether or something? This holds true the value of adding it to a hyperspin wheel to just launch the app within hyperspin.

....been testing this out and I see a few warnings in my log. What does this mean and how do I fix it? Only a few warnings within the favorite sections, not many but there may be a trend. Many & or ' are doing it? I have favorites for every system. It particularly doesn't like open bore

Also when I open hypersearch, it appears fully functional but sometimes really faint i'll see an error pop up message. It always says the same thing but will close itself. It typically shows up when I'm looking through the results. I had to take a print screen quickly as it closes by itself and hypersearch is still functional. It reads... cannot find e:\pc\hyperspin\hyperSPEECH\..Database\Ace of Aces (USA)\Ace of Aces (USA).xml Note that the last part of the error is always different, I think its when I goes over certain games sometimes? Hyperspeech is an app that talks to me, its great. Maybe you need to make sure that the hyperspeech folder that is required to sit in the root hyperspin folder should be ignored? Just a little annoying but if we are talking perfection, we should probably look into that. Note the ace of aces game is an Atari 7800 game if that matters?

In terms of the cab mode, if I set it to true I see that I can't type things on my keyboard I see that it has a hard time with my ps3 keymapper when using the buttons since they are mapped to the keys so I moved it back to false. Not being in cab mode is fine but I still have a hard time going back. I press the right click two times to go back a screen but if I'm not careful and I get to the keyboard screen again and have pressed the right click button too many times it closes down hypersearch. I tried the minimize feature too. By default ` is supposed to minimize it. That didn't work so I tried moving it to TAB but that also didn't work.

For the running this as a sub wheel... here is my test and it failed unfortunately

Went to notepad and did a file save as to my hyperSEARCH folder. The .txt was changed to vbs

Set WshShell = WScript.CreateObject("WScript.Shell")

wshShell.AppActivate "HyperSpin"

WshShell.SendKeys "{F1}"

within the hyperlaunch folder, I went to the emulator ini setting and added vbs to the extensions there.

I went to hyperlaunch and went to the wheel that I added the app to the xml. Then I went to the wheel, module tab and selected edit module settings. I selected the + sign from the rom setting tab to get the name hypersearch there. I added the application path to the vbs location. Then I tried to run it through hyperlaunch and it told me to remove the extensions as it didn't support it.

Is there a work around here? What did I do wrong? I'd like this to be a subwheel if at all possible even if its just mapped to all search

The hot key is F3 to start the search. I then created an Ahk script that sends F3 and compiled it to an exe. I created a new main menu wheel in HyperHQ as an exe and just pointed the wizard to my compiled ahk script. Done.

If anyone is interested I can post the exe and my Hypersearch config

But you can't relaunch it if you closed it right? I have hyperspin running a bat to load up hypersearch. Sure that method would work but once you press esc or alt f4 or back out too many screens it will close the app and you can't reopen it. Can you share your ahk and steps you took to get it on a subwheel?

Also have you tested the new version? Same things I noticed?

Pietie, remaining fixes/enhancements in priority order

1 +if you launch a game and go back to hyperspin to hypersearch you notice that hypersearch has closed and hotkey doesn't start things

2+ minimize hotkey doesn't work

3+need a custom back button or hot key

4+viewing logs the favorites sometimes don't read certain games with special chacters like & or ! Or '

5+full screen option

6+ if you have hyperspeech set up sometimes in the results of hypersearch you will see a small pop up error message that closes itself behind the app because it's looking for hyperspeechs folder xml file

Working perfectly. However this needs a theme or background. 

 

Is there a way to just add a background? Creating a theme just for this would be a bit extreme.

This really has been blown up from a great thing to an even better thing!! I like the idea of a informational theme like what buttons or controller does. Maybe even a tutorial for the v ideo. Interesting ideas we all came together with. Nice work all.

I use the retro background for hyperxml spin but hypersearch I use the button layout for hyperspin. If you make a video please share!

I have a wheel that has a controller theme and it displays an Xbox 360 controller and the button layout for systems.....like a go to if your stuck for hyperspin-RL instructions

Just a basic theme that includes just a background which is the controls and the them changes with wheel rotation. No exe required as it doesn't run anything

I just use the ESC key to go back until the search window disappears. When I hit F3 again it opens. I do not seem to have this issue

Why not use the controller function in pause?

I do but that is only available after a game has been run not before from Hyperspin.

i think you may be using an older hyperpause based on your config file? i have the one that has the minimize option in the ini. In general the app works great, I'm just looking to perfect it with the few enhancements. Pietie received my list, he said he would fix the latest version so everything works when he has time

 

ps i love your art where its a black horizontal bar and cabinet. i think I'm going to add that layer to each system them so it lands right on the game info title part

I guess you are referring to my post. Yup it was the old configuration. I updated last night and it works just as before, but no minimize key necessary. I used esc to back out of the menus until it disappears. I when I hit f3 again, it appears.

Thanks for the kind words regarding the artwork, the cab is a Google sketchup version of my cab.
