wiredworm Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 Hi, Can someone please confirm which version of MAME is preferred to get the full confirmed ROM set working? I've currently got v0.148b of the command line version working but some of the ROMs which seem to be included in the full rom set (bzone2 for example) aren't recognised. Should I be using MAMEUI or some other version to get ROMs like this working? Many thank Pete
Polemicist Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 If you have FTP access grab Jumpstile's MameUIFX from his folder as that has been compiled with all the fun extras. You can use it to look at all your ROMs etc. I also recommend upgrading your sets. Grab the split romset (43GB) and CHD set (311GB) put the ROMs inside the root of your CHD folder and your ready to go. Remember the version of the EXE has to match the version of your romset etc. Do remember that some ROMs don't actually work and if you open MameUIFX it will let you know. The newer version will have more games working obviously. Cheers.
lovemaker72 Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 Any version should work. I'm excited for 0.153 to drop so we get the CAVE games!
zerojay Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 It will be a while. They're reworking a lot of stuff and getting it back to being stable before another release.
Polemicist Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 Cave is already built into Jumpstile's builds as well as NeoGeo etc. that's why I use them. I'd have to check the list of cave games to test it. I do look forward tithe next MAME release though. Happy to wait.

Rick74 Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 Any reason I want to use jumpstiles MAMEUIFX instead of his regular MAME? (which I'm currently using...) I'm not nearly as familiar with MAME as other emulators, so I'd really appreciate a quick general MAME schooling/lesson from someone that knows. I used MAME+ years ago, but I pretty much use RetroArch for everything nowadays. I'm currently setting up MAME in HyperSpin and messing around with all the HLSL shaders...pretty awesome stuff...
suspendedhatch Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 So Jumpstile's MameUIFX is the equivalent of of .152? I have .152 working but would like Hi Score and No Nag and whatever other stuff I have only just recently learned about.

MameUIFX buikds have more features. Check out his thread about it and see.
Styphelus Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 MameUIFX does not have any graphic filters. For that reason alone I prefer MamePlus. Filters make a huge difference on a 55" TV.

Styphelus Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 Yes they are quite different. Mame Plus gives you filters like Super Eagle, 2XSai, HQ2xs and so on just like most emulators do. HSLS filters on the other hand make it look more like an old TV for a more authentic look. It comes down to user preference really. I was never a big fan of Tv scan lines or blurry and pixelated graphics. Didn't like them back in the day and don't like them now. Like I said - user preference!

Well my friend, that is how we differ.. I'm a scanline whore ;-)
wiredworm Posted April 2, 2014 Author Posted April 2, 2014 Thanks Polemicist. I've grabbed MameUIFX and i'm currently pulling the ROM and CHD sets down. :-)
wiredworm Posted April 3, 2014 Author Posted April 3, 2014 I presume that the CHD torrent also contains some ROM files as i've pulled down the 40GB 0.152 ROM set and HyperLaunchHQ is still only showing me as having 8708/8775 roms from the set. Guess i'd best set the 300GB+ CHD archive coming down now. :-)

Just get the ones you want. How to update HyperLaunch
wiredworm Posted May 8, 2014 Author Posted May 8, 2014 Thanks for all the advice. I've now got all bar 2 of the confirmed list working. futariblk seems like an odd one because neither of the MAME version i've tried seem to list it. I've tried the compiled versions of MAMEUIFX from Jumpstile (versions 0.153 and 0.152) but neither of these have it listed. Do I need to use an older version of the program for this one and then configure it to use a specific version of the emulator?
OneBadVeggie Posted May 9, 2014 Posted May 9, 2014 I use UME myself, since it's MAME and MESS put together. Just makes things slightly easier.
wiredworm Posted May 9, 2014 Author Posted May 9, 2014 I use UME myself, since it's MAME and MESS put together. Just makes things slightly easier. But that one also doesn't seem to support the 'futariblk.zip' rom file. Any clues anyone?
wiredworm Posted May 10, 2014 Author Posted May 10, 2014 I fixed this in the end. After a bit of research I found that this rom has been removed from more recent versions of MAME. But for some reason it's still included in the database that HyperSync Cloud pulls down. Easy fix was to get version 0.144 of MAMEUIFX and then configure it as an additional emulator which is used for this specific ROM. All sorted. :-)
