Aorin Posted July 7, 2018 Posted July 7, 2018 Since last year I took some screen-shots of games I was playing back then, and the main purpose of it was to create a topic telling about the games we finish and shortly our experiences and opinions about them. I'm starting with Resident Evil 3 for Dreamcast It's a shame but the only Resident Evil I really played till the end (a lot of times) was RE1, so last year I finished RE2 and 3. I really enjoyed this game, the Dreamcast version looks and plays amazingly well. After finishing it, I didn't play the Mercenaries arcade missions, since I also never played Code Veronica, which I put on hold reaching the Chris part in order to play Assassin's Creed Origins, I'm planning to finish Veronica soon. It was weird to have that Nemesis stalking me all the way. I really enjoy the classic tank controls and fixed cameras. In the original trilogy, I still like the first Resident Evil more, it's the original one, the mansion has its unique atmosphere and the mysteries fits that old big house well. Having the same formula in RE 2 and 3 was a little off, I mean, a police HQ having the same sort of puzzles as in the secret mansion like, finding a mysterious jewel or artifact that will give you access to unimaginable areas are a little off in the two follow ups. So far, Veronica is the more obscure and dark of the three first games, some areas are really dense in Veronica. Feel free to post the games you've been playing, finished or are playing now. Aorin
Aorin Posted July 23, 2018 Author Posted July 23, 2018 Just cause, 2006 is an amazing game with lots of nice ideas. I really enjoyed the San Esperito Island environment, tropical rain forest with night and day cycles, the young Rico has to deal with the corrupt politicians and military force all the way. You can jump from one vehicle to another, that include choppers and planes too. Sheldon was there giving Rico the Agency's jobs. Since I started with Just Cause 3, I had to back to the first game to understand the characters better, in the third game, Rico shows some resentment towards Sheldon. As I progress, the available Heavy Drop vehicles increases. Some weird stuff happens in this game, it's normal a chopper follow you wherever you go, it's worst than Resident Evil 3's Nemesis, policemen will never stop coming in most missions, the slightest crash will alert the police, doesn't matter if you're in the middle of nowhere. Some missions felt almost impossible to complete, at times, you have not only dozens of men shooting you, but 3 choppers, MVs and even some jets. The archipelago is much larger than it seems, also, the side missions, repetitive I may say, are endless. Can you see Rico ready to jump from the jet to the plane? There I go to Just Cause 2 Since Just Cause, PC Version doesn't support gamepads, I had to create a Xpadder profile for it, which worked so well it barely felt the game lacked this feature. I use a PS4 gamepad to play everything, the above profile should work well for even the first Dual Shock and Xbox gamepads. That's one thing I really enjoy using Hypespin and RocketLauncher for, you have form and function, launching any game that needs profiles for gamepads or much more advanced things to work perfectly, is something you have automatically, next time just start the game and play it without worries. random screenshots Aorin
Spawk Posted July 24, 2018 Posted July 24, 2018 Interesting topic buddy. Being a mainly retro gamer, there are sooooo many new games I have been meaning to play eventually. The last console I bought was the PS2! LOL So I have begun to put together a list of all my favorite PC Games and the ones I think I would really like (mostly AAA titles). Wow, I am already at around 170 and it is just a rough list, there is so much to be added still. Has anyone around here have a good base XML for PC games? Both of the series you mention here are on that list. I have never played any JC but judging by the trailers, they look like an absolute blast. I will do all 3 eventually. The only RE game I ever completed was RE2, and even then I only played the Leon disc, I remember starting the Claire disc but just lost interest as it felt like I was just replaying the same game. After seeing a video for the upcoming RE2 re-boot (looks fantastic!) I decided to try the recent RE7. After wondering around for about 25-30 min, they finally gave me a gun, upon which time the very first enemy I encountered kicked my ass! She kinda fell on top of me from a ladder so I figured I would retry 1 more time since I now knew where she would come from. Got to the spot, backed way up and unloaded about 4 rounds in her (2 in the head!) and she still killed me! And this is just on "Normal" difficulty. This game is hard! I will get back to it eventually but I am just not ready yet.

Aorin Posted September 2, 2018 Author Posted September 2, 2018 More pictures from games I played and some I'm playing lately. The original Assassin's Creed is still impressive, released 10 years ago, this game feels like last gen for me. The first Assassin's Creed I ever finished was Bloodlines for PSP, but for the main series, it was Origins, which I'll talk about it later. The side missions could have been more varied, this leads players to rush to main missions, at least it happens in my case. I've finished Just Cause 2 last month, 3 this week, the second game has better gameplay, but I still prefer the first for some reason than the second, the third is the best of them. One of the last missions, look how many choppers are shotting Rico. Ride the 4 missiles and disarm them, since I play with a Playstation gamepad, I don't have the options to display its buttons like the mod I've found for Just Cause 3, but fortunately I know all these buttons by heart since the Dreamcast days. Crimewave is a Sega Saturn exclusive game, released by Eidos, it's a free-to-explore shooter, I like its visuals. I only regret this game doesn't have a story mode, it's basically an arcade game, once you have enough Meks and kill the boss of the current area, you can then move to the next one, I don't even remember if this game has an ending, probably not. Croc was my Mario 64 for Saturn back in the day. A fun title filled with secret areas to explore and a nice soundtrack. I also finished Mega Man 2 last week, I'll go through 3 and so on, I remember playing 7 for SNES, the best one in my opinion. I like the Retroarch achievements feature, some are really really hard to complete, like beating bosses with Mega Buster without taking any damage. If I say I didn't use a lot of save states, it would be a lie, even so the game was hard. One funny thing is that lots of franchises like Mega Man, Bomberman, etc., had their original art and character design totally "localized", the Mega Man cover for instance is "use your imagination, you're not that little blue guy, you're a powerful full grown cyborg. While the Japanese covers remained similar to the actual in-game character designs, which after some time, USA and the rest of the world adopted for good. I don't care that this game was released now for other systems, it's too Dreamcasty for me to play in other platform. Look who's talking, I never played it on the real Dreamcast, I use a Playstation gamepad to play it, and on Windows, using an emulator... Besides, the first time I played Shenmue, was in the original Xbox, and it was the second game. The thing is, I progressed a lot playing it in Reicast to start over. Reicast is able to make it work in wide-screen now, the loading times between areas is almost non-existent with the fast GD-ROM loading, much smoother game-play this way. There's something really special about the Master System Sonic games, in this case Triple Trouble for Game Gear. You don't have smooth speed, so you resort to creativeness, Sonic 2 for SMS is my favorite for the 8 bits. Bosses are the best in the SMS and GG, most of them aren't Eggman itself, but his minion robots. I'd like to use Knuckles in this game, but like Sonic 3 for Genesis, he's a NPC. Emeralds are found in areas you usually need to explore to find, like previous Sonic games for SMS and GG. I remember this char, it appears in Sonic Fighters, maybe other Sonic games. This is the first Sonic for SMS and GG, more creativity, lots of ideas never applied to Genesis and other consoles. All chaos emeralds are blue in this game, I don't know why, probably they didn't even care to make them varied. Super Street Fighter 2 for Genesis and Super NES are faithful to their arcade counterparts in terms of gameplay, I've been playing the arcade version and the consoles and couldn't notice any difference in playability. Somehow I feel the Genesis version to be a little more consistent compared to SNES, but just a little. Another thing I like in the Genesis version is that you can use the Expert option so you fight against the whole roster to find Bison, it features more turbo speed than the SNES version but I never liked to play games in fast-forward. Kondorito Posted September 2, 2018 Posted September 2, 2018 LOVED your last post Thank you for sharing al those incredible games and experiences. I am currently playing the whole Megaman series as I never played it when it came out. Just finished Megaman 2 (it was BRUTAL!) and will start with Megman 3 soon. Planning on playing the X series and so on. Next will be the whole Castlevania series (havent played those games either). Just tested the one from PSX some months ago and it blew my mind.

Yeah, I'm on the same boat, most older franchises I never played actually, like Metal Gear and the ones you mentioned. Mega Man, I believe I never finished from 3 to 6, the X series is amazing, you'll find X4 to be special, there's no denying it's the best of all in the X series. I also finished Mega Man Legends for PS1 back in the day, I'm replaying it (rarely but still have the progress saved), and will start Legends 2 one day. Please, feel free to take some screen-shots and post your experience here, the topic "Games" should be actually called "What you've been playing?" Edit: I just edited the title. Aorin
Kondorito Posted September 2, 2018 Posted September 2, 2018 Pacman Championship Edition 2 follows the steps of his predecesor (DX+), and brings to the players ways of playing Pacman with all sorts of challenges and activities. Below is an example of how a boss fight goes on. In this game you can bump the ghosts (they don't kill you unless you make them mad), have powered eating chains, AWESOME music beats and super neon retro graphics that I LOVE. If you like Pacman, pumped music and neon art, this game is for you! I am also mixing my plays with some hacks here and there (sometimes is difficult to find engaging and complete worth hacks). But I stumbled upon "Mario Adventure"; a hack from Mario Bros. 3. In this game you have a great pace in difficulty, A LOT of different power-ups, infinite lives as they truly dont matter in this type of gameplay, more monsters, coins to change on Toad's kiosk for more items, weather changes on stage, and automatic save-states on each finished stage. You can go in and out of the worlds and mix plays on them, and on each final stage of each world, the king gives you a clue so you can find a hidden key and open some locks to reach the final world. Recommended if you like to play Mario games but are bored/already beaten the official ones. I was a heavy MUGEN creator/player back in the day (like 10 years ago), and after not following the scene anymore for a long time was pleasently surprised to discover a creation for Mortal Kombat that not only is very enjoyable, but the graphics blow your mind! It is called Mortal Kombat Defenders of the Earth, and it is created by a fellow Uruguayan It has all the main MK characters from the series, and the MUGEN community did an awesome job in creating pixel models for chars that never were from that era. All the stages were recreated with high detail and they look beautiful. Every character has multiple fatalities, animalities, babalities, friendships, stage fatalities, even the post 2D era ones! If you like MK games, this one is HIGHLY recommended (if you get the game and have a huge TV, do not hesitate to play it with all the inches you can ).
Aorin Posted September 2, 2018 Author Posted September 2, 2018 That pacman version is way too fast, nice one! Is that Mario Adventure in our hacked games system? If not it's one more to add, I love nice hacks. I'm not sure if this Mortal Kombat is the one I came across something like 2 years ago when I was messing with Mugen and OpenBor stuff, back then this game wasn't ready, and I'm glad you posted this video, I'm definitely going to add this to my setup, great addition. Keep on posting man, loved your input. Edit: This Mortal Kombat game brings the MUGEN thing to a whole new level, simply stunning. Aorin
Kondorito Posted September 2, 2018 Posted September 2, 2018 That Mario hack is from your pack, so you should check it out eventually The last update from this MK version is very new, and hopefully he will do more updates with the user's feedback.
Aorin Posted September 3, 2018 Author Posted September 3, 2018 Danilo Abella did a great job on this MK Mugen @Kondorito, a professional work indeed, I have no idea where those updated sprites for lots of chars were taken from, and if he himself created those, hands down, amazing! I'm glad that great Mario hack is already in our pack. Edit: I just played it a bit, man, speechless. Aorin
Aorin Posted September 10, 2018 Author Posted September 10, 2018 @Kondorito I went ahead and made a preview video for MK Defenders of the Earth and a logo. Mortal_Kombat_-_Defenders_of_the_Earth.mp4 Aorin
Kondorito Posted September 10, 2018 Posted September 10, 2018 Awesome! I like what you did there with the logo. The main screen of the game as well as some of the font types need some work to look more professional, but that does not hinder the awesomeness of the game

This Mortal Kombat game is the only Mugen game I have in my setup, plus other 3 OpenBor games, if any high quality stuff appears, I'll add it, Defenders of the Earth is something else and I can't remember anything of similar quality made by a fan with both engines. Kondorito Posted September 10, 2018 Posted September 10, 2018 If you are into KOF, there is a MUGEN version that came out this month I believe that looks like an official release, and it is AWESOME:
Aorin Posted September 10, 2018 Author Posted September 10, 2018 That's what I'm talking about my friend. Definitely adding to my setup and please, keep us informed about Mugen and possibly, OpenBor quality games. Aorin

gigapig Posted October 25, 2018 Posted October 25, 2018 What have I been playing. Well, I've played a lot of Zelda Breath of the Wild which is a stunning game which I just love exploring. In between that I've played Song of Deep by Insomniac Games, which is a Metroidvania style game and it's good to chill out with. I also fired up Street Fighter V which I play with my son. I've had it a while but never bothered with it, but now I'm hooked. It looks amazing, has lots of modes and I have a lot to unlock. Makes me want to buy Tekken 7 and the new Soul Calibur 6. We also found The Wonderful 101 for the WiiU in a trade in shop, but I've not played it yet, my son has.
Spawk Posted October 26, 2018 Posted October 26, 2018 I used to be a huge fighting game fan going right back to Yie Ar Kung-Fu and what I believe was just called Karate Championship in the arcades. At one point I had pretty much all the moves mastered for MKII and was using Tsung or whatever his name was to morph between all characters... By the time MK3 hit arcades, I just couldn't come to grips with memorizing a bunch more/different moves for another fighting game and the genre kinda died for me. As I get older I find myself less and less inclined to pick up any "action" type game and instead playing games I would never have looked at twice in my younger years. A couple of years ago I ran across a game called "Banished". It's a strategy/simulation/management town builder. You get sent out into the wilderness with 4-5 families and some supplies... That's it, build a town. Most of the early game is just learning how to survive! You can pause the game at any time and think of what you want to do next. A more relaxing experience for when you didn't feel like being all frustrated like many action games cause. That sorta game lead me to a few others I really enjoyed as well. Even though the "townbuilding" is what brought me to Banished, I learned you can build/manage almost anything... sometimes it doesn't even need to be a topic you're particularly interested in to be fun LOL. It was popular enough to have a couple of add-on or companion games like Highrise Vegas, Highrise London, Tokyo... none of which I have had a chance to try yet but the base game pretty enjoyable. Here's another one I really enjoyed. I hope there is a part 2!!! Transport Fever: There is a "Train Fever" from the same company as well but I didn't like it! Odd because the track making is the best part of Transport Fever. And the one I have played most recently: See... trains, hospitals, managing a mall... not exactly interests of mine in real life but these games are great. Seems odd to even talk about these games on here considering they are not really any good for setups without mice but figured I would mention them anyway.
gigapig Posted October 26, 2018 Posted October 26, 2018 @Spawk Thanks for sharing, all those games look graphically amazing. I like to think we can talk about most things here (except politics and religion), this is a forum about a frontend so if we only talked about that the conversation would have dried up long ago.
Kondorito Posted November 13, 2018 Posted November 13, 2018 I recently discovered (yesterday) that the Family Computer version of Contra (Gryzor in Japan) has a lot of differences from the known Nintendo release. I knew that the European release of Contra (called Probotector), had the graphics changed from humans to robots because their market (more specifically Germany) banned the sales of media deemed too violent for children, including "content which glorifies war", but never knew that there were differences between the USA and the Japan versions. The Famicom version used a custom-made Multi-Memory Controller called VRC2 (the NES had the UNROM board). This controller let the designers/programmers add a lot of stuff to the game that could not do it otherwise in the NES version. Right off the bat you can see the start screen animated, an intro telling you the story of the game, the map of the stages you will be playing, graphical effects on the stages bgs (in the NES version the stages were static), cutscenes between stages, and in the ending sequence if the player holds the select and start buttons during the credits, a secret message is displayed after the Konami logo. Slightly less noticeable differences can be seen in the video below snapshot; the graphics for the palm trees, leaves, stones are improved in the Japanese version. And like this is in the rest of the game). There was an English translation patch done over 10 years ago, but I found that the latest one from 2013 is better. If you are a fan of Contra, my advise is to get the Japan translated version; or as I now call it, the Enhanced version. Below is a small video comparing some of the differences (audio in stereo split for each version):
jcm9800 Posted November 13, 2018 Posted November 13, 2018 thanks for the tip iam also a big contra fan and give it a try [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
