neonnets Posted December 3, 2010 Posted December 3, 2010 Did you explore making the entire screen the cocktail artwork and using the same art as Bezel art in MAME? I assume the 768x1024 won't work but with a wide screen resolution support maybe. You're pretty far into the project for changes. Just a thought and my old wheels are spinning. Edit: Quick mock-up without controls attached. of course axe the round corners and white BG
jeepguy81 Posted December 3, 2010 Author Posted December 3, 2010 neonnets- Actually that was my first draft of this little project. I saw some of those exact images and my first few tables were fullscreen. As i kept looking around at artwork and tables I felt that the overall style of the old cocktail tables had never really been used, hence why I'm mimicking the look of the whole machine, little throw-back look. Although I did do a few tables full-screened for a 2player purpose, both control CPO's, and I changed what would be the "top" special artwork, so facing the 2nd player it read "Player 2". Kinda went with whole setting mame to invert on player 2 option. Trust me i've had allot of little ideas on this and had to finally focus on one in order to even get this started lol. - Vertical-Cocktail Cab Theme Project
neonnets Posted December 3, 2010 Posted December 3, 2010 Yes I can see it was well thought out. Really nice work! Do you use your art for cocktail bezel art in MAME? Is it possible? Confusing thought. No what I mean? Or do you just run game full screen 26"?
jeepguy81 Posted December 3, 2010 Author Posted December 3, 2010 Actually the games are rotated for cocktail in mame so they are full screen, no need for side art. I did actually think of using some of the artwork i've come up with for the games that didn't have much in the way of bezel art in mame. I'll have to play around with that. - Vertical-Cocktail Cab Theme Project
jeepguy81 Posted December 14, 2010 Author Posted December 14, 2010 Works been getting in the way of my fun time, whats up with that!! Was able to mash this one out today. **just realized i used an earlier mockup, that little blue line isn't there anymore. - Vertical-Cocktail Cab Theme Project
jeepguy81 Posted December 16, 2010 Author Posted December 16, 2010 Scoured the web and the only thing I could find for this one was a flyer. Seems to be an extremely rare game to see in the 'wild'. Flyer looks like it was water colored by my niece. Did some clean up. Never found an actual pic of this cab in any form so i just kinda winged it for the CPO, just an idea. Looks like this game was off of galaxian hardware, so it was probably just dumped into universal cabs I imagine. **the actual dev for this is "Tokyo Denki Nikkei", but i wasn't able to find anything other then some Japanese characters for the company, so i just went with the distributor, "Game-A-Tron" - Vertical-Cocktail Cab Theme Project
SORHP Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 Cool new themes man! so..... I finally Tated my tv to get this all running and everything is sideways, I imagine that what happened, is that I put windows 7 into portrait mode and it made everything tall, but at least i could control windows with out it being sideways... but it seems that this is designed for the orientation to stay the same, just rotate my tv, and it's good, right?, but then I have to go back and change all of the controls again and still have windows on it's side, is there an easy fix for the orientation of this theme set that I can do, or a batch I can run to turn everything back on it's correct side?... Jeepguy, your awesome, what do you think I should do? My Arcade Machines...
jeepguy81 Posted December 17, 2010 Author Posted December 17, 2010 Unfortunately your right SORHP, these were all setup so you dont have to put win in portrait mode, just setup HS as normal then just rotate the screen. Oh, one more thing you might want to change the stick controls in HS before you are done. With the vert monitor the up, down, left, right, is a little off for scrolling through themes. Might want to change those in HQ. On win7 im not to sure, xp used to be able to Ctl,Alt,UP. might have to tilt your head for a few min correcting it. ?? - Vertical-Cocktail Cab Theme Project
jeepguy81 Posted December 18, 2010 Author Posted December 18, 2010 A more current shmup, Ketsui. Thanks to SORHP for finding the artwork and some cutting out of the ships, definitely sped up the process! Again no real CPO, so just winged it. At least i got the 3 button part right, ha! I'm guessing the characters i have on the wheel is the title? Never saw anything with an "ketsui" on it, so I just went with it. Theres a little more detail in the background of the table but kinda hard to see in the smaller image. - Vertical-Cocktail Cab Theme Project
SORHP Posted December 18, 2010 Posted December 18, 2010 perfect!!!......... tear............. can you please up load it? My Arcade Machines...
SORHP Posted December 18, 2010 Posted December 18, 2010 ok, for some reason, the "next game" text and the game info text is still sideways, but everything else is a-ok, any ideas? My Arcade Machines...
jeepguy81 Posted December 18, 2010 Author Posted December 18, 2010 i'll upload it soon as i get home. There should be screen shots of how i setup the special artwork. i did away with the 'next' artwork in exchange for the arrow flash. the game info i did away with, no option to change that. will probably be able to bring that back in 2.o with the rotation feature. - Vertical-Cocktail Cab Theme Project
SORHP Posted December 18, 2010 Posted December 18, 2010 how do i get rid of "next game" text at the bottom of the screen? My Arcade Machines...
jeepguy81 Posted December 18, 2010 Author Posted December 18, 2010 I think those are special artwork A, disabling that in HQ should take care of it. I think, double check by looking in the special artworks folder. - Vertical-Cocktail Cab Theme Project
SORHP Posted December 19, 2010 Posted December 19, 2010 ok, cool, I got that done, thanks, it was the special artwork A... I am having a lot of trouble with raiden 2, (Raiden 1 (mame), and Raiden 3 (pc Game) are working great) Raiden 2 on the other hand is working me, I have tried the pc version and it has to have the disc in the drive... the iso can't just be mounted, of course it doesn't work in mame yet and the playstation emulator (using Raiden Project) settings with the raiden settings are not letting me "tate" the game properly with the settings and orientation we need HS to be in to load the cocktail themes.... any help or ideas on getting raiden 2 to run properly the way we need to for the cocktail themes? Do we need a script to rotate the screen before the playstation emu loads and rotate back when exiting? My Arcade Machines...
SORHP Posted December 19, 2010 Posted December 19, 2010 thank you for the Ketsui theme, Here's where it went... WaTDWkkTje4 My Arcade Machines...
jeepguy81 Posted December 20, 2010 Author Posted December 20, 2010 In your special artwork folder, either delete or rename the other specialA artwork other then the arrows. I think i named mine SpecialA1. Those are the next game, previous game artwork that you still have showing up in the vid. Also in HQ change the timing of Special Artwork A to "0 in" "0 out" This way the arrows dont fade out, they stay shown. Disable Special artwork C The game text can be removed in the system settings [Game Text] game_text_active=false As far as rotating non mame, i dunno, thats kinda why the original scope of this project is focused on mame games for their older cocktail setups. I've tried a few things on some shmups but even if the systems video is set rotated at say 90, the game still forces itself back to landscape. kinda odd. - Vertical-Cocktail Cab Theme Project
jeepguy81 Posted December 20, 2010 Author Posted December 20, 2010 Checkman - all I could find was a flyer. No pics of anything, no CPO have to actually start this game up when i get home, not sure if there needs to be any action buttons on the CPO or not. - Vertical-Cocktail Cab Theme Project
SORHP Posted December 21, 2010 Posted December 21, 2010 dude, that's seweeeeet! Just like sugar! My Arcade Machines...
jeepguy81 Posted December 22, 2010 Author Posted December 22, 2010 An good classic vert game here.. Joust 2.. **in final version, the joystick and buttons are scooted a little more to the left. - Vertical-Cocktail Cab Theme Project
SORHP Posted December 23, 2010 Posted December 23, 2010 man, you are tearing it up!!!, I'm working on the art for ddp3, as soon as I get the blank template, it should be ready to go edit... here she is, what d' ya think?... the background on the wheel is now red ... edited for content... images too large. scroll down keep in mind this is Black Label, and only a variant, I wanted to do this first, because of the crazy cutout of the beat down ship. I will bring cool DDP ships into the non Black Label version soon My Arcade Machines...
SORHP Posted December 24, 2010 Posted December 24, 2010 Here is Espgaluda, Just got support from MAME with 140u3 ...edited for content... scroll down My Arcade Machines...
jeepguy81 Posted December 25, 2010 Author Posted December 25, 2010 good work SORHP, the black label one is really nice. Only thing I might change some is the wheel. Try shinking the DoDonPachi wording just a little, so theres a little more space on either side between it and the metal trim. Then scoot it up just a bit. Those vertical japanese logos can be tough. Try moving the cave logo just a little down and to the right, then maybe try another font type for the 'black label' portion. Use a smaller font size and put it on the opposite side of the cave logo? maybe? if that makes sense. The non black version is really nice as well. The two images of the game controls seems kinda stuffed to me, what if you dropped the left image of what looks like player select type images, and just centered the right control image. And maybe try to shrink those japanese characters on the wheel enough to center the cave logo on the wheel? The ESP table is really pretty, looks like you had really nice artwork for it, great job cutting it out. To me the cave logo on the table looks kinda out of place, as do some of the game icons on the left. Maybe slide the girl on the right down some, with that artwork you might not really need those extra little things. Maybe shrink the controls image a bit and center it under the screen. The green wings would over lap it bit, but honestly can't really read it anyway lol. If you want to take up the space on the right what if you rotate that espgaluda logo so it's vertical on the table? maybe? Just some ideas, but they are looking really good! awesome work! - Vertical-Cocktail Cab Theme Project
SORHP Posted December 26, 2010 Posted December 26, 2010 Ok Here are my revisions, the ddp3blk wheel font is correct to the game, I think it's lame how they do the fonts too, but it's accurate, so I just went with it ...changed up a few things you mentioned in the ddp3 theme, and espgaluda, but I kept the cpo art the same, it took me a while to get it to overlay like it does, and I kinda like it that way thanks for the feedback! My Arcade Machines...
Pyramid_Head Posted December 26, 2010 Posted December 26, 2010 These are very neat! Would they be used just for vert cabs? Or work with horiz as well?
