One for TRON, some flash elements, I'll do a static version as well. The title fading has 3 effects going at the same time and can give a little slowdown. But my work PC is crap so i'll test it at home first.

OK, newbie question here, so please be gentle. :)

If I were to try to run this on my 25" vertical standard res arcade monitor (setup for 640x288) with MAME providing the screen rotation for the horizontal games, what would I end up with? Is this a viable solution for a standard upright vertical 25" monitor?

288 seems to be the max resolution that the arcade monitor will provide w/o all kinds of issues. I can also run at 640x480 but the games look horrible when MAME runs them.

Is this the right path for me to pursue?

Thanks!

jeepguy,

Awesome TRON!!!

Cool stuff, raiden II... yaes, I sure can jump into it, except it sucks that I have no real good way to play the game except through a ps1 emulator, blah... Also, can you hook me up with the psd of the guwange wheel, the white back ground on the one posted is not playing nice

edit: nevermind about the guwange wheel, but... can you update the ftp with your latest stuff? :)

Yeah SORHP, i'll try to shoot you that psd tomorrow, or i'll just send a link for the png, didn't realize it would put a white background to it. sry.

If RaidenII isn't playable, then dont sweat it, go for something that is.

Welcome demogo, well the vertical part of it yes, thats the layout of these, but the resolution may be the problem for you. The artwork is all done at 1024x768 which is kindof a default for HS.

hehe, yeah definitely need the guwange wheel with out the white frame, I already did a bit on the raiden 2 theme, I'll upload what I have, so here's to hoping that it becomes playable in mame soon...

Thanks, Jeepguy. :)

So I'd be looking at having to resize and/or crop all of the artwork to make it fit? Any sense as to if it's reasonable to do that? I'm just getting started so I have little practical FE experience.

Yeah resize and/or crop would be needed, although im not sure how allot of the graphics would looked resized down to the appropriate size.

I've gotten numerous other PM's from people using arcade monitors that only run in the lower resolutions so i've been playing around with a fairly general default theme that might help you. I'll try and get it ironed out right quick and post it up.

Heres just a quick idea for a smaller rez theme in vertical orientation. Looks like some peep have set their system res @ 640x480. So this is done at that size, mostly using the game flyer and marquee for interchanging images. Any wheel could be used of course once resized and rotated. The flyer grows and bounces in, while the marquee pixelates in. Video uses the TV static fade in.

Figure something like this might help some of the peep. Maybe?

Great work guys....Looks fantasitc!

I am making a vertical mame setup in my Pacman cab using a standard res arcade monitor.

How will this look? I am trying to find a nice looking frontend to control everything. Something that looks nice (graphical....not a text list) and runs well on a vertical standard res arcade monitor.

I am planning on only having the classics (DK, Pac, Ms pac, Burger Time, Frogger, etc) and stuff that runs with a stick and 1 button. I do not want to mod this control panel at all. I'm using an ArcadeVGA > Jpac to connect it if that matters.

Thanks and once again...great work!

Bill, I think This is the place to be, I have Hyperspin in two cabs and 2 pc's, and I couldn't be happier... especially since Jeepguy has come to the vertical rescue

Welcome to the forum Bill.

Your mame build sounds like a good classic machine, should be a fun one.

You definitely cant go wrong using HS as your frontend.

The theme layout I just posted will hopefully be fit to use on the standard rez monitors rotated to be vertical. Personally I dont have one and have never used a setup with one, but from what i've seen allot of people set it to 640x480, hence why i threw this size together. The only thing I can say would be to try it out and see how it works, like i said i dont have the right setup to accurately test it. Im just crossing my fingers lol.

Feel free to PM me and i'll do what i can to try and help you with a setup.

Thanks for the info guys and once again...great work!

This is actually my second MAME machine. I built my first totally from scratch. Cut the wood and everything. Came out really nice. I used a 27" multisync arcade monitor in that (Horizontal). Looks great for everything! I have Maximus Arcade running on that, but may convert over to Hyperspin.

I have a dedicated yellow cab pacman (with multipac kit) that hasn't gotten much use lately. I thought it would be cool to stick a PC in it and run all the old vertical games on it. I have a pc with arcadevga card and a jpac (as well as a pac>jamma converter). I wanted a simple, but nice looking menu. The Ultracade style always looked good to me. It's a 19" vertical standard res monitor in the pac. Just bought a new one a few years back since the original died so it looks really good.

I ended up here. :-)

I hope to get the PC in there some time this week. In the meantime I have a 19" LCD sitting around. I would like to do my testing and setup on that before installing it in the arcade cab if possible. Will the arcadevga work on a regular monitor like that? (Never really tried it on anything except my arcade monitor.)

Anyway...I can't wait to get it all set up looking sweet. I have not messed with the FE at all yet so I don't know much about editing. I do have some Photoshop skills though so I'd be comfortable tinkering with stuff if I need to.

Any info or settings you guys can give me to get me going would be greatly appreciated! Like I said...I haven't even loaded Hyperspin yet. I've spent days searching the net for the best FE to use. Where can I download this layout from? FTP?

Thanks!

Bill... first off, if you're serious about this HS frontend like I was, become a gold member, it gives you access to the ftp which has all of the premium content, and become a member of emumovies for the video previews, if you want to use those... the rest of the info is all here on the forum.

install HS, and figure how it's inner workings and how everything is named, settings, databases, ect... then get Jeepguys themes from the ftp, (they are rotated to fit vertical screens) ... and let us know what we can do to help, and help us make the themes, have fun ;)

Sounds good. I just saw the Video from the first post showing this theme. WOW! Was previously on my work PC and the Youtube vid was getting blocked. All I could see was the pics. :-)

I will donate now to become gold. I NEED that theme working on my machine. Looks amazing!!!!

I look forward to really getting into this FE and doing some editing and whatnot as well. I think I have all the emumovies stuff already saved on my existing mame machine. I'll check this weekend and hopefully find some time to start messing with it all!

SORHP is definitely right, take the initial install of HS for a spin. Get a good understanding of where things are and what things can be edited and once you've got a handle on it, Head up to the FTP and I will put up the lower rez themes in my folder. I will update a readme file along with it so further explain what changes to make in order to give you the vertical look!

Downloading the app now and plan to get familiar with it today. I sent my gold donation on Friday. Any idea how long it normally takes to get verified? I'd like to get on the ftp today and grab the theme.

Bill

Update: Seems I have been gold verified, but haven't got any info about FTP access. Hopefully soon. :-)

I also grabbed all the FLV video snaps from emumovies so I am all ready to go once I get the theme.

If you haven't heard from BBB (BadBoyBill) yet, drop Bent98 a PM, I think he still handles the FTP accounts.

I became a new uncle over the weekend so I didn't get a chance to upload the smaller 640x480 themes yet, I can get to it first thing when i get home today. sorry for the delay

jeepguy, can you also update the vert themes folder with the new stuff, can't wait to test drive tron, thanks broha

Ok Bill, when you get access, up on the ftp, under "Upload Here/jeepguy81/Vertical Cocktail Themes/640x480 resolution" is a zip file with what you should need to setup your vert theme. Since I haven't set this up yet, there is only artwork for 4 games, pacman, burgertime, millipede, and 1941. Didn't want to go to far without being sure it would turn out ok, so your kindof a guinea pig lol. If everything seems to flow ok, then it wont take long to do artwork for other games you need.

SORHP, no prob, i'll get zippin the themes together tonight!
