bill55 Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 Thanks jeepguy! I can't wait to start messing with the art and stuff. Not really sure how HS formats all this and handles the themes. If it's just layered psd files or what. Haven't done much yet since I don't have ftp access. As soon as I get access to the FTP I'll test it out. Thanks! jeepguy81 Posted January 25, 2011 Author Posted January 25, 2011 You can grab a theme or two from the downloads section here on the site, that should give you some to see how they are put together and where to put them in the system in the mean time. Dont forget to take a look in the Docs section of the site, they have put up some really good tutorials and vids to help explain some of the finer points of HS. - Vertical-Cocktail Cab Theme Project
jeepguy81 Posted January 26, 2011 Author Posted January 26, 2011 Ok SORHP, i updated the bigger vert themes. Im gonna just switch to a folder instead of a big zip file, keep forgetting what i already put up there. - Vertical-Cocktail Cab Theme Project
SORHP Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 excellent... if you want to put my zipped themes in the folder also, feel free, it may help newcomers from being confused about what themes are available, thank you for updating!!! My Arcade Machines...
jeepguy81 Posted January 26, 2011 Author Posted January 26, 2011 Heres Pengo, pretty much bezel art retrace, did find an instruction card though. - Vertical-Cocktail Cab Theme Project
SORHP Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 looks fun, I've never played this one... My Arcade Machines...
jeepguy81 Posted January 27, 2011 Author Posted January 27, 2011 Popeye, used the bezel art, but filled it out a little more. - Vertical-Cocktail Cab Theme Project
bill55 Posted January 28, 2011 Posted January 28, 2011 Got the theme all downloaded from the ftp and messed around a bit last night on my laptop with it. Thought I'd get it working right there before messing around with my PC in the arcade cab. I'm having an issue. I am sure I am doing something wrong due to how little I've used this FE so far. (I am using the low-res version.) I renamed the vert-settings.ini to vertical.ini and placed it in the /settings folder. I made a folder called Vertical inside of the Media folder. Inside there I have a Themes folder and an Images folder. Also a keys.png file. Inside Images I have Artwork2, Artwork4, and Wheel folders that have the contents of those zip files in them. Inside of Themes I have the default.zip file. Inside HyperHQ under Main/General I select 'single' and select Vertical from the dropdown list. Under Wheel settings I select 'vertical' from the dropdown list. Here is where I have issues. The screen looks different than if I select any other wheel. I have the executable line listed, but no Rom path line. When I select any other tab now other than emulator it says 'This tab doesn't not apply to executable only Main Menu items.' It won't let me get to any of the other settings like setting up my videos or anything. The theme does load and appear to work, but I get no videos or anything. Any help is super appreciated! SORHP Posted January 28, 2011 Posted January 28, 2011 Jeepguy, Popeye is awesome!!! You are on a roll man! this just keeps getting better and better! Bill, you have to set your videos path in hyperhq, I use the mame videos path myself, because most, if not all of these games play in mame (im sure you already know that though) and you will have to search around on this forum on how to edit the hyperspin.ahk file (download and install "auto hot key" to compile the ahk file) and you will need to create an instance of your vertical wheel in the ahk file for mame to load a rom when you are in your vert wheel in HS... but, really the forum has everything you need to know, it took me a solid 2 weeks of reading here to learn everything I needed to know to setup new wheels properly and get difficult emulators working right, it's a great learning process... My Arcade Machines...
bill55 Posted January 28, 2011 Posted January 28, 2011 Thanks for the info. Been so pressed for time lately I haven't been able to mess around with it as much as I wanted. I knew MAME would launch the games. It was just weird how my wheel had different settings than all the others. I'll grab AHK and give it a shot! Thanks! Bill My Pinball Build: Indiana Jones and the Pinball Crusade
jeepguy81 Posted January 28, 2011 Author Posted January 28, 2011 hmm, sounds like it's seeing that wheel as the main wheel. Did you add the wheel using HyperHQ? - Vertical-Cocktail Cab Theme Project
bill55 Posted January 28, 2011 Posted January 28, 2011 Yeah. I added it and set it as an executable program. I thought since there wasn't going to be any submenu's that's what I wanted to select. I went into the Main Menu.xml and deleted the EXE part. Working perfect now! Gonna try resizing some of the other game icons and adding those in. Hopefully tonight or tomorrow and can get it running on my MAME PC that goes in the arcade machine. Bill My Pinball Build: Indiana Jones and the Pinball Crusade
jeepguy81 Posted January 28, 2011 Author Posted January 28, 2011 Ah, well the submenu would be the actual game listing wheel. There is only a single submenu layer to HS. Does the placement of the theme are work ok? Just curious, what other "game icons" are you resizing and adding in? - Vertical-Cocktail Cab Theme Project
bill55 Posted January 28, 2011 Posted January 28, 2011 I have not tried it on the arcade monitor yet. Just on my laptop. Can't say how the size works yet. Here are the games I am definitely going to have on the machine. Since it will only be vertical stuff and can onl'y have 1 button I am sorta limited. Open to suggestions. :-) Burger Time Donkey Kong Donkey Kong 3 Donkey Kong Jr. Pac Man Ms Pac Man DigDug Mr. Do Galaga Galaxian Frogger Whatever other classics that will work well in my setup. Bill My Pinball Build: Indiana Jones and the Pinball Crusade
bill55 Posted January 28, 2011 Posted January 28, 2011 I checked the sizing of the larger icons you made compared to the smaller ones. The image is a different ratio. Just curious what the best way to make them the right size would be? I was going to just reduce the larger ones to the same size you made the smaller ones, but the clear background of the image is a different size than the larger ones. There is more space around the smaller icons. Not sure if I am explaining that very well. Bill My Pinball Build: Indiana Jones and the Pinball Crusade

bill55 Posted January 28, 2011 Posted January 28, 2011 Man do those Cocktail ones look sweet. I wonder how bad they would look sized down? Might give it a shot at some point just to see. My Pinball Build: Indiana Jones and the Pinball Crusade
jeepguy81 Posted January 29, 2011 Author Posted January 29, 2011 I checked the sizing of the larger icons you made compared to the smaller ones. The image is a different ratio. The artwork was put together using a 640x480 sized base. I thought that was the rez others had gone with if they were using true monitors for a vertical setup. If thats the case then im not sure what you would have to resize. Can you give a screenshot? - Vertical-Cocktail Cab Theme Project
bill55 Posted January 29, 2011 Posted January 29, 2011 Ok. Got the pc running in the arcade machine. 640x480 is too high for a low res monitor. Right now I have it at like 401x292 or something like that. If I go too high it either rolls or looks terrible. This looked nice and clean. By icons I meant the wheel icons. Bill My Pinball Build: Indiana Jones and the Pinball Crusade
jeepguy81 Posted January 29, 2011 Author Posted January 29, 2011 Gotcha, I thought EvilDindon used 640x.. on his smaller cab, oh well. If you can double check the rez your using, i'll adjust the artwork to fit within that size. Then we'll see if that looks better. - Vertical-Cocktail Cab Theme Project
rondar Posted January 29, 2011 Posted January 29, 2011 jeepguy81, won't HS automatically scale these themes for you? All the measurements I've seen in this thread are approx 4:3 (or 3:4 tated). (1024x768, 640x480, and now 401x292) Sorry if I'm missing something and this is a stupid question, but I just don't want you to do work that's not necessary. And in case I haven't posted to this thread yet, these themes look awesome! [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
bill55 Posted January 29, 2011 Posted January 29, 2011 384x288 is what I'm going to use I think. It's. 4:3 aspect ratio and looks clear. Gonna copy hs over now and see how it looks. My Pinball Build: Indiana Jones and the Pinball Crusade
jeepguy81 Posted January 30, 2011 Author Posted January 30, 2011 ron- um, to be honest, i'm not really sure. I know when i first started this, EvilDindon was doing a small vert cab and i think he had to resize artwork. So im kinda wingin it on the lower rez stuff. hmmm..... lemme see what i can find. btw, thnx for the comment! edit- Well, aint that something. I guess it does scale it, although at that low of a rez, the scaling down does cause a little bit of stepping with some artwork in the main menu themes at least on my laptop. So I would imagine just using the 640x480 theme would still look nice and clean scaled down. (i just set HS to windowed to try it, so im guessing on the outcome) - Vertical-Cocktail Cab Theme Project
bill55 Posted January 30, 2011 Posted January 30, 2011 It does scale. I tried some of the default ones and all showed up for me on the arcade monitor. One other thing. I used a program called irotate (http://www.entechtaiwan.com/util/irotate.shtm) to rotate my windows desktop90 degrees so it was vertical. Once I did that and loaded HS the themes were all oriented vertically since Windows was set that way. I loaded the standard MAME theme and it fit it to screen. The wheel was on the right and controls worked too since the desktop was set this way. Granted it was stretched since it was meant to be Horiz, not Vert, but it did work nonetheless. One other thing. If i didn't use irotate and just loaded the vert theme you made, it was upside down. An arcade monitor must be vertical in the opposite direction from how you rotate yours. I am going to try the cocktail high res theme shortly and see how it looks on the arcade monitor. If it doesn't look good I might need to mess with one myself. Also. The low res on you made doesn't fit the screen. It only takes up like 40% of the screen maybe. Any idea why? Try loading it in a window and see how it works for you. Even in a window it was messed up for me on my laptop. Bill My Pinball Build: Indiana Jones and the Pinball Crusade
bill55 Posted January 30, 2011 Posted January 30, 2011 Ok....just getting the cocktail theme setup on my laptop. One problem I am having. Everything looks great and is vertical except for some text with the game name and company. That os still showing horizontal and looks stupid with everything else vertical. How do I turn that off? I thought there was some settings to do that, but when I checked them off it didn't do anything. 'remove wheel info' and 'remove textfield info'. Is there some other way to either get that text out of there or to at least rotate it? Thanks! Bill ps- Holy S--t does this theme look incredible in motion!!!!!!
