jeepguy81 Posted January 31, 2011 Author Posted January 31, 2011 Bill- the theme art is already rotated, so there is no need to use irotate to rotate windows itself. Just rotating the monitor physically from horiz to vert. The game rotation is taken care of in with altering the mame settings. You are probably right with the rotation of my monitor, again since I didn't use an existing arcade screen, it was a 50/50 shot which way to rotate it. And the the 40% diff in size is probably some guessing I was taking on sizing things with the resolution before I thought that HS would scale it. Gimme a little time and I will just do a full sized version and you can see how it scales it down and rotate it the other direction for you. The game and wheel info can be removed manually in the settings file. Open it in a text editor and down toward the bottom you'll find the [Game text] section. Change....game_text_active from =true to =false that should remove it. - Vertical-Cocktail Cab Theme Project
bill55 Posted January 31, 2011 Posted January 31, 2011 Thanks for the info. I'll try and edit the settings manually. The only reason I mentioned irotate is because vert support is a very requested feature of this front end. If u use that it works vertically pretty easily it seems. No rush on redoing stuff. I am gonna try the cocktail one soon hopefully and see how that looks as well Thanks again! Bill My Pinball Build: Indiana Jones and the Pinball Crusade
jeepguy81 Posted January 31, 2011 Author Posted January 31, 2011 Ok, up on the ftp, in my folder i put a folder with your name, in it is a new default.zip theme, along with the same artwork2 and artwork4 folders with new adjusted artwork. It's all rotated the opposite direction then mine so shouldn't be upside down. Didn't do anything with the wheel images since I wanted to see if these changes work. If they do work i'll post up the .psd files so you can resize any marquees and flyers you want for your cab. - Vertical-Cocktail Cab Theme Project
EvilDindon Posted January 31, 2011 Posted January 31, 2011 Actually dudes I haven't tested the cocktail themes on my mini pacman cab yet. I guess I'm too lazy to adjust all the settings and resize all the artwork to 480x640. And yeah, 640x480 is an interlaced resolution on a standard 15KHz monitor, but it's still clear. For sure a progressive (non interlaced) resolution of 384x288 would be better for the eye in terms of image stability but it would maybe give a too much low resolution for the theme art, imo. But It definitley needs to be tested, and compared to 640x480 (480i). So, 288p or 480i ? "Dindon" means "Turkey" in french.

Cool, I think I'll give up my lazyness tonight and give it a try. "Dindon" means "Turkey" in french.

I hate to burst your bubble but actually not really. In essence I did a default type theme that just swaps out resized marquee images and flyers. It's a little more static like the one you put together earlier. So EvilD, when you tried it before did you leave HS at 1024x768 @ fullscreen and just let it scale everything down? Thats why the first shot at this lower rez theme I sized down, but evidently the artwork doesn't fit?? **making my brain hurt, i hate not having something to test on** - Vertical-Cocktail Cab Theme Project
EvilDindon Posted January 31, 2011 Posted January 31, 2011 Oh i see. No I haven't tested any vertical setup on my cab yet. Maybe I'll test your excellent cocktail cab themes first by letting HS doing the 1024 to 640 downscale itself (when my FTP account will work again ...), and wait for HS 2.0 to work seriously on my vertical 640x480 theme set. "Dindon" means "Turkey" in french.
jeepguy81 Posted January 31, 2011 Author Posted January 31, 2011 Contra... gotta give credit to aabra, used the artwork he cut out in the normal theme. Was having trouble finding some that wasn't total crap. **This CPO really isn't that correct. The button labeling and color is right, but all I saw were either flat black overlays, or a jungle motive that was from the USA flyer. So i kinda went a little rogue on this one. - Vertical-Cocktail Cab Theme Project
bill55 Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 Having a problem. I get this error when trying to launch a game. "Cocktail is an invalid system name or mame.exe isn't supported yet." Points to my mame.exe and the right roms folder. I get the error as soon as I try to launch a game. Bill My Pinball Build: Indiana Jones and the Pinball Crusade
jeepguy81 Posted February 3, 2011 Author Posted February 3, 2011 hmm...could have something to do that you created the wheel as a main menu item instead of a sub-wheel? I'll try to mess around with it, haven't had this prob yet. - Vertical-Cocktail Cab Theme Project
jeepguy81 Posted February 4, 2011 Author Posted February 4, 2011 Gunsmoke, this was cool to do. Credit to EvilDindon, i used a few pieces of artwork that he already expertly trimmed out for his theme. Traced out the paneling to give the background some more content. Finished it out by adding a small romstar/capcom logo at top middle, just above the screen. (after i uploaded this pic) - Vertical-Cocktail Cab Theme Project

jeepguy81 Posted February 10, 2011 Author Posted February 10, 2011 hmm...looks like i forgot to put that step in the readme, i'll have to update that. sry bout that. - Vertical-Cocktail Cab Theme Project
will2084 Posted February 11, 2011 Posted February 11, 2011 Thank You EvilDindon for the info i did what you said and it worked perfect. @ Jeepguy81 Thank You for creating this theme it is awesome great job! one more question do i use the same videos that i have been using from the horzontal hyperspin that i have been using for months now or is there a set that was made for the Vetical game themes. Thanks Again
jeepguy81 Posted February 11, 2011 Author Posted February 11, 2011 Nope you use the same vids, any games that are vertically oriented natively were recorded as such, at least so far. I haven't ran into any that haven't been yet. Glad you like the themes!! - Vertical-Cocktail Cab Theme Project
jeepguy81 Posted February 11, 2011 Author Posted February 11, 2011 Phew, finally got Toobin done. Used some pics of the side art for references and just kinda changed it as i went. Spent allot of time in Illy on this one. Overall I think it turned out pretty fun. I might slide that Atari logo to center and shrink just a tad. - Vertical-Cocktail Cab Theme Project
will2084 Posted February 11, 2011 Posted February 11, 2011 Thank You Jeepguy81 i used the videos and they worked great, one more question i put my emulator program in the hyperspin and set up the paths in hyperQ but when i run the program and start a game i get a error saying (missing rom extension in vertical cocktail.ini) my wheel was created and named Vertical Cocktail so i am missing somethimg to allow the games to start any ideas? Thank You
jeepguy81 Posted February 11, 2011 Author Posted February 11, 2011 jump back in HyperHQ, and where you set up the paths, one of the boxes also lets you state the rom extension which for mame should be .zip If there is nothing there it doesn't know what to look for. - Vertical-Cocktail Cab Theme Project
will2084 Posted February 12, 2011 Posted February 12, 2011 Ok i went back in and i saw what you were saying, the box was blank so i added the zip, now what i get when i try to start a game is (vertical cocktail is a invalid system name or mame.exe isnt supported yet) am i using the wrong mame i have the mame141b and using windows 7 64 bit. now when i had the original hyperspin setup using the mame wheel it all worked fine so some where i am not doing or changing something. any more help would greatly be apreciated. Thanks for all the help so far.
