Cocktail cab themes

Hi Jeepguy, thanks for the reply. The 180 rotation works for great for me following your help file. It looks exactly like you showed it. I dont use irotate.

Just my take on it. An assumption of course is that you use it with a monitor that is turned upright. Like you said, its intended to really be used as a stand alone vertical setup.

I do have a cocktail cab that allows you to play both vertical and horizontal with controls at the bottom and the side of the cab. I did notice, depending on which side you turn the monitor vert (left down, or right down) depending on your cab and wiring etc that if you go horizontal to play from the side that you have to plan carefully which side of your cab you have your horizontal setup on or it will be upside down. I personally turned my monitor left down and it works great with my cab controls at the bottom control and then I can use my horizontal control setup to the right of that vert setup. iRotate would make sense to quickly switch between vert and horizontal rotation if it was not a fixed setup.

Amazing work Jeepguy!! This is so cool. Thanks for posting the new items. Good luck with the new job. Is it a computer graphics design related position?

ok i risk sounding like a newbie here but i've never really looked at verticle cabs before..... these skins you've made (which are foooooooooooooooooookin a*!) where do you use them.....

is this an overlay, to which the game is played on the screen..... or is it just a video preview frame....... sorry for the silly qs..... i've just skipped though the pages to look at the artwork.... (and i'm at work and shouldn't be on HS :D )

keep up the great work!

Browser - thnx, no the new job is actually staring up an athlete training program with a local physical therapy office. I really really hate my fulltime job and hopefully we can grow this so I can quit where im at now. But I do contract myself to allot of local businesses to do graphics for them, mostly web some print. I have allot of juggling to do but im so bored at my fulltime job I just can't stand it lol

Jahilton - They're not skins, but actual themes. The first page on the thread has a short clip showing them in action. originally i started these themes for use in an old school cocktail cab

1030_1337_fs.jpg

**just an example, but i have seen upright cabs as well**

They're more for a dedicated system really since it would be kinda tedious to be rotating your monitor all the time, or you can be like Browser and get a cool 4player cocktail!! A buddy of mine has a cocktail cab and just has the old school vertical games on it, pacman, digdug, galaga..... stuff like that.

There are some newer games that are vertical scrollers too, SORHP has done some great themes for those and rotated his monitor as well.

I have thought about using some of this artwork to make some bezel artwork for when playing on a normal screen in mame, some games really dont have much to take up the empty sides.

Phew, sorry been out for a few, working on starting up a new job and it's been taking every waking second I have, and them some! ugh. Anyway....

KMHamel, Veusti, thanks very much for the comments, i'm glad it some peep have found it useful!

Is everyone having the prob of the artwork being 180 of how everyone is rotating their screens? Just wondering if that's the reason for iRotate. I just picked a direction randomly in the beginning, but if everyone is rotating to one side, then I might go back and change them. Seems rather silly to run a program to correct this. Suggestions??

Browser, no sweat on that request dude, sometimes I get kinda focused and do forget for a while to post up any of the newer ones i've worked on. Speaking of I need to put those together and put em up! HAHA

When I built my cabinet i used a lcd flat screen mounted to the lid. The cabes exit out of the rleft side of the monitor and left side of the motherboard (the way its mounted) so I put the hinges on that side so the cables would not dangle in front of me when I have to work on the cab. I could rotate the monitor and motherboard and move the cables but decided to use irotate instead.

As for using irotate as a stop gap sol'n. What I ment was that there are about 400 vertical games that flip and another 300 that don't. It's going to take you awhile to do all the graphics. Until you finish up your project people can us irotate to rotate the standard HS system. It does a pretty good job, unless you are using a P4, do to the lag. A duo 2 core or better is needed.

Thats the problem with flat screens, the controls are on one edge and the vga out and power out are on the other. My cabinet opens like a standard book. (right side lifts left side hinges) If you decide to rotate them 180 that would be ...wow.. I think its only a problem (if you can call it that) for those of us who mount vga's and mount the controls for player one so the cabint opens on the right.

I hope to use your graphics when they are done no matter which way they are, they are to nice not to.

Ah, i see what you meant with the iRotate. Yeah it's gonna take me a little while to get close to the end, but it's a fun project. I did put a Default theme together, that way I just threw all the games on and all are at least usable in HS, just no specific artwork in the meantime.

Fortunately my buddy started his build after I started these themes, so it was put together dependent on the monitor. Like you said it's had to tell which way peep may put their cabs together of even if they just replace the monitor they may put it in a diff orientation. Is there a "standard" for which way the manufactured cabs open up sitting at the player 1 spot, like yours open on the right. If so I may just do that, so there is at least a little correlation between the themes and cab.

But thnx for the support!! Glad peep will get use out of these at some point lol

I will take a look at the themes tonight, very well possible i zipped them up wrong, was kinda late when i got stuff up there.

Here's Galaxian, I have to double check the manufacturer though, I thought it was a namco game, might have been released here by bally/midway. I'll remove that little bally logo

It's just the standard cocktail version, made sure it had the old flipper control on it, ha

Those themes show up on my wheel, so the wheel image isn't even showing up on yours? Might want to check the naming in you xml file just to be sure they're named properly.

I just finished checking with so old gezzers here that did arcade repair back in the day.....and low and behold there is a standard.

depending on what style of table, Hor. or vert. and position of monitor to player 1.

For stright vert. 2 player cab. Hinges are to the left of player 1. coin op below front (player1) or to the right of player 1. If you have a fold out monitor...Monitor hinges are on the right side of player 1 (coin box under player 1 controls). Since the monitor was so big all the better tables had the fold down. The monitor was always set long wise in the table to allow for the biggest picture.

You know, I couldn't get these guys to shutup once they got started.

If you want to know the standard for hor. tables I now know that..there are acually two types.:vroam:

The Galaxian theme looks great, The game Hardware was made by Namco but was distributed in the U.S. by Midway a Bally company so the logo on the table art work is right for the U.S

Time Pilot.

Wasn't thrilled with the artwork I could find, wasn't allot of decent quality. This mimics a flyer I did find and just redrew most of it. Look for a decent pic of the cabinet side art for the future to maybe redo this one in the future.

KMHamel,

I posted my ahk scripts on the server under uploadhere/jeepguy81/SORHP

(they help with tate'd monitors rotating the screen with irotate to the correct position for HS and vert setup themes and games, you may have to edit them depending on your setup)

have fun

Super Cobra,

Same basic layout as a cocktail cab I found.

Not quite sure about the instructions though, I kinda winged it. Couldn't find a pic clear enough to read what it said, so I just grabbed a few key ideas off of the wiki for the game haha.
