The drivers to install an Xbox One controller to the PC have been released. They will be pushed out in a future Windows update or you can manually download them here. The site indicates to use it plug in the controller via USB. Does not mention anything about wireless connectivity. From what I understand the Xbox One controller uses Bluetooth so it shouldn't depend on any proprietary adapters like the X360 did. Would love to hear from anyone who gets this working, wired or wireless. Note that this controller is supposed to be compatible with all existing PC games that support the X360 controller. I would hope this would mean swapping it in and out of my Hyperspin setup should be easy but I don't have an Xbox One controller at the moment to test this out on.

Really interesting as xbox 360's pad is wonderful but the d-pad sucks. Does triggers still share axis under directinput?

Absolutely cannot wait to get my hands on an xbox one controller now. Do they make wired versions specifically for the pc yet? Or do you just use the console version?

They don't make specific PC based Xbox One controllers. The console controller is supposed to be both wired and wireless. When you plug it in with the USB cable (to the PC or the Xbox One console) it is supposed to act as a true wired controller (meaning no latency from the wireless). The article I linked to however seems to indicate that this controller connects via USB only. They make no mention of wireless so I have to assume you still can't connect these over wireless to the PC.

I think it is worth it. I don't have an XBONE, but I got a controller at launch in anticipation of this. The triggers are nicer and the D-pad remind me of the SNES. I have only played with it for a few hours on some emulators, but I think I have a new favorite controller.

I have just enjoyed the utter crap that is the xbox one controller wireless adapter on Windows 7, even with official drivers it doesn't work wirelessly, it keeps installing the wrong driver. I hate it, I hate it, I hate it! Came with my Rift. Anyway, the POS is so tied into Oculus that I now need to upgrade to Windows 10, I've been holding off because I hate hate HATE the live tiles. I used Start 8 to ditch that rubbish on some peoples Win8 PC's over the years so I'll probably get the latest version from Stardock and purge that technicolour worm vomit from my system.

The good thing about Windows 10 is that not only are the drivers for the xbox one controller even more broken than they are on Windows 7, but many many other things are also way more broken.  It's really great if you enjoy just constantly troubleshooting issues that have little to no solutions except for praying that Microsoft fixes things.  Then updates come out that claim to fix things, but really they just break things more.

Well, fingers crossed I manage to avoid those issues! I will report back whence the quest is complete. Fare thee well, I shall see thee upon my return!

Edit: Forgot I posted this, It's been a while since I've been on the site. Anyway, it all went well and Windows 10 is pretty nice, a smoother experience for sure once you get rid of the rubbish live tiles.
