Nice!

I recently played the original DOS version in Retroarch using a PS4 gamepad, I really love Duke Nukem 3D, I'm definitely going to try this fan remaster

One game I just recently got my hands on is Ion fury, take a look, may interest you as well:

Saw this a while ago. I played Duke Nukem to death when it first released, the one liners are still classics. Haven't tried this yet, it was the fact it had VR support that got my attention. I'll be looking to grab a Rift S headset in the sales (i.e Black Friday). Oh how far we've come since 1996!

I saw the Duke3D mod some days ago and it looked awesome! But ION FURY!? Never heard of it until now and I LOVE IT! I need to get my hands on that game pronto.
Just checked Wikipedia for some info on Ion Fury; did you know that it was originally called Ion Maiden, but the band Iron Maiden sued them? LOL. Classic 3D Realms.

I did actually, being an Iron Maiden fan (enjoy playing their stuff on guitar). I seriously doubt Bruce Dickinson banged on the developers doors though ;) The legal team has to be seen actively protecting the copyrights and trademarks, now matter how silly it seems.

Ion Fury does look awesome, unfortunately I already have a huuuge back log of stuff to play and get through. Never mind the Amiga project I took on and New Retro Arcade: Neon (A virtual arcade we can kit out with cabinets)

I hear you; I recently got a Nintendo Switch (on April), and I am loving it. I am playing a lot of games there and had to put my retro-cravings on hold for some time.

I'm not a Nintendo/Switch fan personally, holding a grudge as it seemed to kill off Nvidia doing an updated Shield Tablet with the X1 chip ? Some Switch consoles can now run Android which is a recent development, although Nintendo seemed to have patched out the exploit to run it on newer devices.

Although I'm not a fan. With that said, the work CDPR are doing to get the Witcher 3 playing on the Switch is impressive

Yeah, I am not a fan per se either, but I really wanted to get Mario Maker 2, so when I heard it was coming to Switch, I got one, and surprisingly, I found A LOT of awesome games in it worth playing as well.
The portable feature is very welcome, as I can spend some quality time with my wife while she watches TV or does something else (my retro rig is in another room, so before the Switch I was there for hours XD).

The Switch is killing in sales worldwide the last couple of months, even surpassing Xbox and PS. This is great because more 3rd party companies are porting their games in Switch, like Mortal Kombat 11, Witcher 3, Crash Bandicoot Trilogy and Crash Team Racing, as examples. I am really pleased with this hidden gem console.

Switches can be hacked (some specific models), and you can even install Android on it. A lot of people are playing all the Nvidia games there, installed Retroarch, and so on. This is awesome, added with the Switch feature of having it as a handheld or simply just docking it and getting the games in a full screen TV.

Sorry for the off-topic.

It would be wise for Giga to get the new switch with the Mariko X1 CPU, as it's battery life is faaaar superior. It's practically a given Nintendo will have patched out the exploit to run Android on these newer units. They're also going after You tube channels (like Modern Vintage Gamer) for doing any content on Nintendo Switch and homebrew applications...have I mentioned how much I dislike Nintendo lately? ;)

I'm glad you guys enjoy the device but it's not for me. My friend's kids have them, they were basically "dropped" when they saw my Shield TV. I can thank Hyperspin for that, showing off the retro games so well. Although the fact I could stream PC grade games and they could play Fortnite with better graphics (than the Switch) probably had more to do with it :P

As far as gaming on the go. I'm always amazed just how much we can do with our phones these days. I'm super excited for the release of Retroarch 1.7.8 and the touch screen support for gun games. Until then I think I'm tempted to follow in Aorin's footsteps and emulate Duke Nukem 3D, although I'll probably do it through Magic DosBox. (That kind of brings us back on topic lol)

Thank you for the advice gentlemen.

Thing that bugs me about the Switch is that lazy ports and the price and size of the Joycons. Silly money but I may be missing something.

Oh yeah, I want a limited edition version :)

ID Software and Bethesda have been doing monthly giveaways this year as we celebrate 25 years of DOOOOM! Funnily enough they have done Limited Edition Nintendo Switch consoles ;) https://slayersclub.bethesda.net/en/giveaway/7fBU0nV8TvEepPMb5hYOCI/giveaways-may

I don't think you're missing something, I agree about the Switch. Zelda: BOTW is an awesome game BUT doesn't play that well on the Switch, the Wii U version is of course possible to emulate on PC with Cemu at up to 4K (quite a step up for 720P!)

Do you have a Switch and BOTW? I have over 100 hours in the game and it plays great.

I don't need to own one to see people online complaining about frame rate issues. There are even respected Youtube channels saying other games like Doom drop into the mid to high 20's and this is okay...it's really not. If you and others enjoy the Switch that's great. What Gigapig and I think of it, is just as valid whether we own it or not. I have no interest in owning one, for me the money is better put towards a VR headset for my PC.

Although I have no real love for Nintendo, all my Girlfriends have. So I've had plenty of experience with the Gameboy, Gamecube, the Wii and Wii U etc. etc. Yes I have a legit copy of Zelda: BOTW (Wii U) and much prefer it emulated on PC with the enhanced resolution and mods we can do.

For me there is a difference between having some frame rate issues and a game that doesn't play well. There are some minor issues with the frame rate in some situations, but they don't bother me.

I agree that it is valid what you think of it, but I should really just give the game a try :)

I think the frame rate issues is what Gigapig meant by poor ports. Doom for example is a 60 FPS game, that is now 30 FPS on the Switch and it struggles to hold that frame rate. Witcher 3 will also struggle in some places, I concede it's technically impressive to see these games on the Switch BUT the frame rate issues will spoil my experience playing the game.

I used to have arguments with my brother as he would keep tinkering with the resolution settings on my Xbox 360. I played some games with 3D glasses on my TV and at 1080P the TV would default to 24Hz, locking to 24 FPS. Yes you could play the game but input lag was awful and it just didn't look right. Switch to 720P and the TV did 60Hz, at that resolution the games played great in 3D. Most people (like my brother) didn't understand this and just thought 1080P is better. It's probably a factor in why the 3D feature has faded away from TVs now, being seen more as a gimmick for movies than being viable for games to most people.
