Bishop Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 Amazing work Rain! Glad you introduced error reporting "I may be synthetic, but I'm not stupid."
Rain Posted November 14, 2011 Author Posted November 14, 2011 Thanks Bishop. The program is currently at a dead stop for a little while, whilst I attempt to heal my intestinal ulcers. Thanks for your comments, when I get back up and around and feeling 100 percent I will pick up where I left off as far as development is concerned.
MrHappy Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 Oh yikes!!! Definitely heal yourself, the rest can certainly wait. Hope ya feel better soon!
Rain Posted November 15, 2011 Author Posted November 15, 2011 Oh yikes!!! Definitely heal yourself, the rest can certainly wait. Hope ya feel better soon! Thanks for your support, the past few weeks have been very difficult. Constant weird feeling in stomach (with all of the side effects that that has with it.) But I have been feeling good the past few days, and I also noticed that 144 has went official now. Hopefully within the next few weeks I can get back to work and wrap some things up. Thanks for your support!
djvj Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 As of the next version (0.144u1), MAME and MESS will officially support Fedora 16 and GCC 4.6.2. The 0.144 release may have some problems compiling in those environments; make NOWERROR=1 can be your friend in that situation. Rain Posted November 17, 2011 Author Posted November 17, 2011 Thanks for the heads up, whenever you disable warnings as errors in the program this is done automatically, along with the changing of some troublesome source code that gets edited during the processing of the flag. Looking forward to getting back on the project, hopefully won't be too long until I am feeling better. Thanks guys!
BladeZX Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 I tried to download this and I get that the link is not valid. I am looking to build a MAME 144 exe with hi scores and nags gone. Rain Posted November 20, 2011 Author Posted November 20, 2011 Sorry about that blade. I have been pretty sick over the past three weeks and the doctor says that I supposed to take time off from everything. The ulcers have really kicked my ass. I will update asap.

Rain Posted November 20, 2011 Author Posted November 20, 2011 Get better soon Rain.Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk Thanks Whild, I will (err, at least I hope I will.) Been a rough couple of weeks but I am slowly begining to eat solid foods again. Surgery was a major pain in the rear end (literally lol.)
Rain Posted November 20, 2011 Author Posted November 20, 2011 Okay, so work will be resumed on the project as early as 12/08/2011 (since I will be released from doctors orders by then.) There are a number of changes that we can expect to see implemented. Another aspect of the program that I am considering is how and when I will be moving the program over to the Windows 8 platform. Right now as it sits the program is Windows 8 compatible but there are many features in the Windows 8 SDK that could eliminate many hundreds of lines of code from the application. Granted Windows 8 release date is still pretty far off, but now is the time to start considering other ports of the application. I do like some of the new features of Windows 8 much better than 7, in fact in almost every way imaginable Windows 8 is superior to WIndows 7. A lot of people will complain about Windows 8 and the new UI, but once you learn it they will see how much more effecient it is vs. previous Windows releases. The memory management is probably the best I have ever seen on using a Win compatible operating system and the speed at which programs run & operate is very amazing. Here is a minor breakdown of the processes involved compiling Mame on Windows 7 vs. Windows 8. Windows 7 Compiled Mame 0.144 Hi Score i7 Optimized Time to completion: 21 Minutes 17 Seconds. Windows 8 Compiled Mame 0.144 Hi Score i7 Optimized Time to completion: 11 Minutes 03 Seconds. Compiled on a Toshiba laptop w/16GB RAM, AMD Quad Core @ 2.3GHz. As far as I am concerned from a technical stand point Windows 8 will quickly become the dominate force amongst the global computing scene (well at least for PC users whom want to get the most performance from their hardware.) The only reason that I am concerned about Windows 8 & 7 at this point in time; is simply do to the fact that the program will have to fork at a point in time that may not be to very far away. The simple fact of the matter is that I would not have the time nor the resources to run two seperate branches of the program so a choice would have to be made to either continue developing for Windows 7 or go to Windows 8. If and when that time comes I will definatly have to port everything over to Windows 8 and the newer management platforms. Yes, this would mean that in order to run the program you would need a machine running the standard version of Windows 8 or higher. I would be happy however to allow a skilled programmer to continue development for machines running Windows XP to Windows 7, and keep a running branch. But as for one person trying to run multiple branches, I just don't have it in me at the moment. However, mind you these changes probably won't even be a problem for another six months or so. At this moment in time I will resume work on the application and track down exsisting bugs and attempt to resolve them within the next several releases, and make the program more usable with more extended options and customization settings. Thanks guys!
Synthesis2k2 Posted November 20, 2011 Posted November 20, 2011 Howdy! Been reading about your program, and I would really like to try it out. It seems the link on the first page is dead. Mediafire says the file has been deleted. Don't know if that was on purpose or not. Was just wondering if you (or someone) could pop the current version back up on there, and update the link. Much Thanks!
trublu289 Posted November 21, 2011 Posted November 21, 2011 Here is the service release edition: click here to install. Please be aware that this version is still considered early, and several options do not work as of yet. Here you go.
Ggallery Posted November 21, 2011 Posted November 21, 2011 Every link I've managed to find to this awesome looking program is broken. It seems this program as well as many others birthed in these forums should be in the downloads section. Since the links are dead, whats the best way to go about getting a 144 nonag hiscore build?

Hey, thanks for the support. Right now the program has taken a little bit of a backseat to other worries atm. I should start updating the application very soon though.

Rain Posted November 21, 2011 Author Posted November 21, 2011 Thanks for all of your support guys, I have a doctors appointment in an hour and it is the one that will tell me if I am better. The doc says that on top of the ulcers I probably have Chron's disease (which sounds more serious than it is) but will let you all know, and will work on the program some today as well. Thanks for all of your encouragement.

Rain Posted November 22, 2011 Author Posted November 22, 2011 Important News I have decided to create a special "fork" of Hyper Mame codenamed Quick Mame that will quickly allow users to verify & build the latest version of Mame. I am hoping to have a rough build today, so if your interested private message me. Thanks guys!
Ggallery Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 Perhaps there should just be a FTP folder for things like tools, utilities, tutorials and MAME builds to go in. It's pretty messy in the Upload folder, very messy, but I've been all thru it and there seems to be a lack of tools and such. Seems like it'd save a lot of Q&A from the forums.

You make a great point actually. I will start uploading my demo builds to my FTP folder. Thanks! Now, I'm biding my time until the most recent version of MinGW is the official tool chain of Mame Development.
