bill55
Installed my other cabinet fans. I decided to put a 3rd outtake fan on the back of the cabinet. Since I have the PC drawer I didn't want air being trapped underneath it so I stuck a 3rd fan to help get a little more air out. Figured it wouldn't hurt. My 120mm intake fan near the front on the bottom of the cabinet. From the bottom. Fan filter installed since it's an intake.
bill55
Filled the holes in the backbox. Should be ready for sanding tomorrow. Also filled the holes in one of the other cab's I'm working on. Productive afternoon.
pinballlooking
Looking good. Wow ventilation will not be an issue. I like that amount of buttons on the front. A nice clean look.
bill55
Lol. Yeah....might be a little overkill, but rather have too much ventilation than not enough. I like the cleaner button look as well. I don't like seeing 6 buttons on one side, then a launcher or plunger on the right. Too cluttered. Makes it look less authentic to me.
DeeGor
Nice job so far Bill. It's looking great. Looks like you'll be starting all of the wiring fun pretty soon.
bill55
Yes. Hoping to get that rolling very soon. This weekend with some luck. Trying to get the backbox knocked out first. Any wiring tips you guys have? Where to start? Where to mount certain things inside the cab? etc...
zoltar420
I really like this build!! Keep up the good work. Also thanks for posting all the links to the products you used! Helped me out alot
shifters67
I originally had fan filters - they keep the dust out but they also really cut down on the amount of air flow. I removed them and had x3 as much air flow. You might want to try it with and without air filter attached to see the difference! I now just have chrome finger guards across my fans Shifters
kizam33
:congrats:nice work. i was on the fence on what playfield to get 42 or 46. i was scared that the 46 would have to sit on the top but your build just anwsered that question.

You can thank Chriz99 and Mameman for the slotting the sides idea for the playfield. It does work out awesome!
kizam33
oh yeah, those Hall of Famers. they make it look easy. Also did you think about getting the "Williams" emblem in the middle of your speaker panel. that would be sweet.... if you do get one, link on here please.if you dont mind, i want to use your build thread as my one stop shop. i too will build a williams and thats the one little detail i want for sure. i have seen it on here but i have seen so many builds on here i cant see straight:stupido2:
bill55
I know Chris has it on his, but he has an original panel, not a custom made one like this. I am sure it could be stenciled on with chrome or silver paint or something. I'm still deciding if I am going to do it or not. I did talk to Mameman about engraving it into the panel, but the Williams logo gets too fine in some points and becomes fragile. You'd end up with parts of some of the letters getting broken off. bill55
Got the screws and washers for the plunger. Feels great all screwed down. Super solid. Side rails mounted. Cabinet starting to look more finished. Lock bar in place. The lock bar receiving piece mounted to the inside front of the cabinet.

bill55
Been having some really nice weather. Hard to find the motivation to work on the pin and not enjoy the 80 degree days. Drilled out the flipper buttons finally. Just below the playfield screen slot and support. Also VERY close to the plunger. Had me worried for a sec. bill55
For the backglass 'bezel' and glass I am using plexi. Instead of making a bezel to go around the screen then putting glass over that and the screen I am using plexi and painting a border for the bezel on the back of it. (Thanks for the idea Mameman.) I installed the plexi and just eyeballed where the screen edges were and went just a shade inside that. Since there is a little space between the screen and the plexi I wanted the border a little smaller than the screen. You can still see the whole screen because of the viewing angle. Nothing cut off. I left the protective plastic on the plexi and with a pen marked the front of the plexi. I then turned it over and peeled the protective plastic on the back side just far enough to tape off the center and leave myself a border to paint. I rolled it with Valspar black satin using a foam roller. Mameman suggested against spraying because it didn't cover well on the plexi. Here are some pics. (I will post pics of it mounted this weekend). It way better from the front side. I just didn't want to peel the protective plastic off yet as not to scratch the plexi. I'll get pics of that as soon as I peel it. I used 2 coats to fully cover the clear plexi. After 1 i could see small clear sports where light would come through. Before pulling the rape i used my metal ruler and a new (sharp) razor blade and scored the edge to prevent the tape pulling up any of my finished border. Worked nicely! bill55
Got one more thing done last night. Mounting the LED's to the heatsinks. OMG that adhesive smelled horrible! Used the little scraper it came with and put it on the back of the LED, then used a rubber band to hold it tightly in place while it dried. zen74
Very nice, and great detail of the process as usual. I really like the idea of painting the bezel onto the plexi. Think I'll go that route on my build as well...
luvthatapex
Yet another great idea for future builds. Thanks for sharing, looks great!
bill55
I went back and forth with different ideas for a while. Mameman did this on at least one of his machines. He was the one who gave me the idea. At least everyone can take the ideas from my thread instead of bugging him with a hundred emails like I did. lol

Dr who is glass, the rest have been acrylic. It's a very easy way to get a nice clean look.
bill55
Peeled the plastic coating off both sides this weekend and mounted it in front of the screen. It practically looks factory made. WAY better than I could have hoped for!
bill55
Here are some pics of the backglass with painted bezel after both sides of the protective coating were peeled off. Looks amazing! From the front it looks like the acrylic itself is black. You can't even tell it's paint. Hard to get it to look as good on camera though as it does in person. A couple pics of it installed in the backbox. I used black electrical tape to cover the metal frame of the screen itself so you didn't see it behind the glass. Came out really nice. Back of the backbox all painted with the screen installed.
bill55
Alright....Really made some nice progress this weekend. Got the bezel finished off and mounted as you can see in my previous post. Also got the backbox mounted with the hinges on the cab (pics to come on that one). Had to re-size my back door just a hair so it didn't rub the top when opening and closing. Also got started on my wiring! I decided not to try and get everything crammed on the pullout tray I have. I am leaving just the computer and power supply on that. I am using a 2nd board for all my other wiring. That board will sit on the bottom of the cabinet below the pullout PC tray. I wanted everything installed on a separate piece of wood and not just mounted to the cabinet bottom so I could pull it out to work on it if need be. (I will use 9-pin molex connectors to allow me to disconnect the entire wiring board so it can be removed. I can then screw the whole board down inside the cab to prevent it from moving at all. Got the wire duct, fuse holders, and LED-Wiz mounted. Just starting to get each of them wired. Trying to keep it as neat as possible. Screwed each fuse holder down with a 1/2" screw. Used the female quick disconnects on each wire to connect to the fuse holders. I ran all the wires from the top connections under the LED-Wiz board and into the wire duct. Kept it look really neat! (Stole Zen's idea). All the fuse holders wired. I also got the resistors soldered for the LED's.
