The HyperSpin 2 beta is here!

We’re starting the first public testing phase with Platinum Members to keep the scope manageable while we test the current feature set and begin to add more. In the future, we’ll provide a version for basic members as well.  On behalf of the entire HyperSpin team, we look forward to another exciting adventure with our community.

A new Hyperspin?

Well, with emb taking a break to enjoy life, I've taken the liberty of creating a new beta release, and while that's cooking I'm taking feature requests for the next release. :) The next release will be theme focused, with support for themes per collection or even per game, and additional theme features and fixes. :) I'm also working on getting all the features up and running for zerodreams' Nox based theme; attached some WIP screenshots.

I like this a lot. It's very reminiscant of an old theme I did but you clearly have FAR higher production values lol, my stuff is low key.

The latest version is extremely smooth and stable, and in my opinion, (and with all due respect) the 'aeon nox' layout/theme looks a lot better and is easier to set up on retrofe than hyperspin :)

Looking really nice. You can tell that took some effort! Thanks for sharing.

The theme was done by zerodreams and NJDave71; the coding was mostly done by me. :)

I think 0.7.2 will be a leap forwards for RetroFE, and a great starting point for new functionality.

Most Nox themes look like their Kodi counterparts. It's a very nice form of presentation, but everyone has their own preferred theme of course.

Yeah it does, only thing I don't like is that the game video without a border seems to be kinda floating in there. Otherwise looks pretty good if you are into this kind of HTPC look.

A number of people are working on nice new themes for 0.7.2, but this is the only one that's completed at the moment.

RetroFE is at build 0.7.14 by now. :)

Circo has given me permission for the following:

A first RetroFE environment has been uploaded to the EmuMovies FTP at /Upload/RetroFE. This environment contains the following collections:
Arcade
Capcom Play System I
Capcom Play System II
Capcom Play System III
Cave
SNK Neo Geo MVS
Nintendo Entertainment System
Super Nintendo Entertainment System
Nintendo 64

These sets just contain art, no roms, for obvious reasons. The Arcade set currently contains a set of dummy roms (empty files) to allow the sub collections like CPS I-III, Cave, and SNK Neo Geo MVS to show up. These will be removed when RetroFE is updated to no longer need them.

In principle this environment is a simple download and run. Just add your own games, and perhaps other collections, add the required launchers, and you're set to go. This set will be checked, updated and maintained by me whenever I can find the time to finish up a new collection. If you feel you have material that could be of use, please PM me.

I just noticed this thread after phulshof bumped it. I read the first page or two, but I don't feel like reading through 25 pages of questions. I am just wondering to what degree are hyperspin themes supported?

I am looking for a new front end for my Windows 10 machine since hyperspin currently does not work well on it. I want a front end that will work with all my current themes and media. I want it to look just like my current hyperspin set up.

Is that possible with retro fe without recreating the wheel?

That's easy to answer: they are not. RetroFE uses global themes written in XML, that can be overwritten for each collection (but don't need to be, so you can easily create a common look for all your collections). The art is certainly re-usable, and RetroFE can be used to support a wheel based theme, but you will certainly be spending some time setting it all up. That's what the above post was for: I'm working on complete art sets for people to download so you can just dump in your HS rom sets, and play happily ever after.
