Upgrade my Hyperspin

Recommended Posts

hi guys,

apologies if I am posting this in the wrong, place. Ill go ahead and make my plea, and if I am in the wrong place ill move this most!

ok, so I have one of those 4TB hyperspin drives. Last year I started building my own and spent months at it. Eventually me and a friend decided to help ourselves out a bit and purchase the 4TB drive, which works great, but it doesn't use HyperlaunchHQ - which is how I was building my previous setup.

What I would like to do is "merge" the two.

Is this possible? Essentially I would like to open Hyperlaunch HQ and see my systems, but also have all the correct ROM and EMulator paths in there as well...I have had a go, but the rom and emulator paths remain blank. Much as I enjoy the building, if I can avoid re inputting the settings for 95 systems I will!!

I hope you can help, and thanks very much in advance!

wow what a wonderfully friendly reply. If my Hyperspin drive insults you fair enough, but I have joined the community to seek help and if possible return the favour. To be honest, if you don't want to help me fine, but why bother replying? Frankly your snobbery of "my hyperspin drive" is stupid. Ive put in the hours, pretty much the entirety of last year, I still have the system, but I bought this drive because it made a lot of sense and has saved me a lot of time. Ive been messing with emulators and retro consoles for many years. How you can be insulted by that I don't know, I work just as hard to build up my systems. All I am asking is, is it possible, or do I need to carry on doing things the way I have been doing, which is fine but I am trying to save myself a lot of time taking into account the work I have already put in, im just unsure if I have missed something. I don't see the need to be a dick but hey, if that's how you want to be then well done.

I never said I was selling, nor is that my intention. This all came about because I couldn't get my C64 emulator to work, following the guide requires me to have Hyperlaunch HQ which my system doesn't use, so basically I am building again from scratch, and of course I wanted to import my existing stuff, that's hardly wanting things both ways now is it?

Hi Clivvy,

You would be best off to grab the art and roms off the purchased drive and continue the way you were before.

The Old HyperLaunch will not work with any of the new stuff. So continue with the way you have been going.

Thanks,

Ron

Ron - thankyou! That is all I needed to know. I am happy to put in the work if that is the only way, I just wasn't sure if I was missing an import function or something to get all the rom paths over etc. What you say is my plan, and I am doing as we speak! Thanks for the sensible reply I really do appreciate the help though, I am doing the reading, I am doing the work, I admit I am a little upset at the insinuation im the type who doesn't take joy in the back end work, because I do.

Frankly, it isn't. You probably have assets MaskedMavel & a lot of others here have put time in to create. Emumovies etc etc. Whilst whoever you bought it from has profited and you get a jank setup and come crawling with tail between legs for help.

so basically I am building again from scratch

STANDARD ISSUE! Good luck.

what absolute balls. It is snobbery. A new guy comes along and these are the classic snobby responses. Ive explained my position, that I have built my systems over the years, Hyperspin I started on last year, the drive helped me get a lot of artwork and videos etc much easier than downloading. I don't care about the guy who has sold it, I don't feel he has taken anything from me and if the community does then fine, but I am not that person, I am just trying to build up my own system. I cant believe I am being attacked in this manner over simply asking for help, now all of a sudden im the fool come running "with tail between leg" hahah what?

whatever.

Thanks Marxkemp, I appreciate that. I feel I am justified in my response to the others, they have been a little off which is something I feel isn't necessary in this sort of community. I love games, especially the old school stuff. I'm very technical, but I'm not a no it all. I'd never have thought buying a pre made drive would cause so much upset. I've done a lot of reading around the boards, I've not been a member long but I've been around Hyperspin for about a year now. I think its great, though tonight I'm starting to wonder if its worth asking for help. I don't usually, and look what happens when I do. I'd be more than happy to share what I have, though I expect that too is also somehow a direct insult to somebody. That is not my intention. Maybe I'm a little more grown up than some? Anyway, looks like I'm in for a lot of late nights re building, if by some miracle there is anything I can do to contribute to the community then that is my intention.

don't feel attacked, you are not the problem, but most of us do not like to see any people making money of something that is shared freely.

You are not the first or the last person who will post the same question.

we can ask you what version of Hyperlaunch you are using 1,2 or 3?

I'm guessing its not something you know.

Hypesrpin is not a program you simply drag and drop to configure, you can't just download a new version of anything and plug it in.

Hyperlaunch 1, 2 and 3 are not compatible with each other, the folder structure is completely different and most important their is no support for 1 or 2.

My advise is keep the roms, artwork, videos

update all your emulators.

and finally set up the latest Hyperspin on a new drive. Once you have everything working transfer all the roms, artwork and videos.

you will get a much friendlier response when you are trying to set up hyerspin from a fresh download.

Why do you feel you're being attacked? You already called him stupid back and he has every right from what I've explained is probably his beef.

You may have got a better reception from him if you had even bothered to donate.

I don't feel he has taken anything from me

He has taken your money and now has got you spending time fixing it up.

Tail between legs reference is you wanted a free ride buying the setup (so you didn't have to go through the hassle), but you ended up with it anyway!

Don't feel hard done by, just let this be another lesson to others.

Thanks 32assassin. I do understand what you are saying, now. I'd have preferred a different response from the off but what can I do? I did try to explain I had built mine from scratch. Didn't seem unreasonable to buy a drive with all the media on, I didn't think at the time that this action was an issue, again it isn't my intention to upset anyone. I am currently building from scratch and yes, I do know what you mean about which version-im using RocketLauncher updated via GIT and Tortoise. To be honest, I spent a hell of a lot of time editing INI files, ahk files, sorting emulator controls and configurations even on this 4tb drive. Maybe now its clearer I'm not a drag and drop noob as such? Had I known the etiquette of the community I'd not have mentioned the drive but I'm honest and open, and I'm always willing to help others if there is anything I can do.

Yep, Keep the artwork, videos and roms, start a brand new setup and get familiar with HLHQ, get platinum membership here and also at Emumovies and then use Hypsersync to update all your assets. This will go a LONG way to resolving any issues you have and will also put you in good standing with everyone in the community.

because the initial response is frosty, then further responses are frosty especially yours. Judgments about me have been made, despite my explanation that I have infact built my own system and simply wanted to know if I could merge what I have. The problem is clearly the 4tb drive purchase I made, and that is the attack on me - as if I have somehow broken a cardinal rule of the club. I think there are better ways to talk to people, better ways to communicate like most of the responses on this post have shown. Ron for example said all I needed to know, others could simply have said "get yourself donated mate and we will help you out" or "get building, xfer your artwork and donate to become a member". Id have been chuffed with that and felt like I was becoming part of the community.

making out I wanted a free ride is absolute balls. Firstly, ive paid for it - not knowing this wasn't a community preferred thing, call it ignorance, but I think its reasonable ignorance. When I paid for it, I knew full well there would still be work to do - I didn't spent the majority of last year building to assume a paid drive would be an easy ride.

Your the one making assumptions about people, all based on requests for help, or that they have purchased something. You attack with your comments in an unfriendly manner, you can bang on all day about how you've seen it before and I understand if you are sick of seeing it but I don't think I deserve such a frosty reception.

I read a couple of times that these hdd for sale have artwork that we dont have? So, clivvy, you can give back to the community already now! [emoji2]

If you are serious, start from scratch with hyperlaunch setting up mame first. And use gigapigs excellent guides to go from system to system. And if you can, think about donating to some of the projects.

Sound slike you learned the hard way!

They bring more harm than good :( Think about it, if your HS does not even have HLHQ running it, you will have been sold on of the first versions of Hyperspin. NONE of the settings used for that can be used. The Emulators will have been configured to run through HS and will most prob be out of date. The art work will be even older than HyperSync and even Hypersync itself needs a huuge update and sort out. Im guessing that the roms will be using years old naming from old XMLs, thats even if they are official and have more info thatn just the names. Then the artowrk that matches those (which is already out of date and prob the wrong format (prob .flv) will have the wron names too.... etc etc etc etc...

The only 4 things that are of any use to you on that drive are......

1. An xpadder license... but that too will need updating and its prob older than 2013.

2. Large sets of disc images. Eg. Playstation ISOs. They again will need renaming but prob faster than full downloads. Although 4 TB will not have full sets as no 7z support. Delete all console stuff as its safer just to dowenload again and doesnt take long.

3. Kickstarts that you may have from Amiga or a speculator keycode? Im guessing not as these cost money and your sellers dont like spending (thats why its soo old)

4. The HDD itself.... I just hope that it dd not cost much money and that its actually a good one.

Fact is that everything else will either be out of date, or so bugged with bad names its more hassle than its worth.

I was in the same boat many moon ago. I did not buy my setup. I seen a vid on Youtube and I wanted it!!! I spent weeks downloading the Hyperspin Project Torrent. Only to find that it was old as shit and was doing but making my life much more complicated updating. Finally I bit the bullet. "Delete"... best thing I ever did!

Sure there is some sour faces around here. And yes, you are not the only one. You are correct that people do get fed up with peeps coming here with a piss poor setup the bought and it doesnt work. They do not care if you have membership or not. None of us gain any money from it at all. It makes it more easy for you to build a system faster. Hyperspin is not a hard thing to make at all... hell with the release of RA, updates in MAME and MESS you only really need about 5 emulators to run almost the entire Hyperspin setup!

So although this sounds extreme... just bite the bullet. Face the fact that the guy who you bough the drive from is laughing all the way to the bank and press delete. Makes less "i dont understand why its not working" threads and saves us all on grey hair :D It may sound like your saving time exporting things from one setup to another, but trust me.... its much faster to just download fresh everything and then it all works as it should!

So what the ideal solution is now in the ideal world.

1. Press delete on everything except the 4 things above.

2. Buy membership. Not for the money or to prove anything to anyone. Its to get your art up to date.

3. Start joining private websites such as PD and BG. Build ratios... you will need these.

4. Stop being so defensive, you will need a load of help on here. Friends get you cookies!

5. What company did you buy it from? Name and shame so that we maybe able to warn others.

6. Hope that you bought this in the past 30 days and that you paid with Paypal so you can get your money back!

God speed!

Austin

Clivvy....

Welcome to the forum. Lots of good people on here will help you. I have never purchased one of those drives and I do contribute some stuff to the community and I COULD NOT CARE less whether or not you have bought one. Have fun! Please share any themes and wheels etc that the community does not have. Good luck!

sorry for the shitty welcome, but a lot of the dudes here(especially artwork producers) a really touchy on the subject of buying an HS setup. But much like everyone just said, you cant just buy HS and have it work perfectly. YOU ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO DO IT YOURSELF, not saying that the community wont help with legit questions, but some of the long term members have seen about a billion people roll through here just begging for someone to just set up their computer by remote. Thats just not what we're about.

Sorry for being a dick. As you can see from other people's responses the answer is basically: learn about hyperspin. You're asking how to update? Well that information is certainly out there. Granted, its not as obvious as it could be, but a lot of work has gone into the various guides that have been made. If you really want to put the time in, then good luck; if you have a specific question then feel free to ask it. Just posting "Updgrade my hyperspin" in the main forum is pretty ridiculous.

chaps - thanks very much for the recent replies. Yep, ive been defensive and I apologise (but I will stick up for myself), I love tinkering and building, so, much like the guys who are annoyed at me for my Hyperspin purchase, im annoyed at them for assuming im a bandwagon rider - im not, and hopefully in time ill prove that. To be honest, I am still happy I bought the drive, it really did help me out back then and I was able to re live my youth - I had no idea about the stigmatism I really didn't but now I do and I understand, im certainly 100% not looking for someone to fix it for me, trust me I've spent many long hours doing it for myself and i rarely ask for help. I want to be part of the community, I wouldn't be here if I didn't and yes, ill be donating / getting platinum this weekend when I get paid - it was always my intention but life/money issues always take priority but I have made provision - so much so ive sold my XBOX One...!
