Hi all,

 

Though of popping 2 cherries at once here. Posting in a forum for the first time, and also my first arcade cabinet!

 

Progress pics so far, not completed.

 

So let me know what you think and any feedback.

Yep, that theme will cover the whole cabinet. ive got white t-mould, which ill add once the sides are on. then add the bezel to finish it off.

 

I've got the plexi glass for the bezel, just need to think of some art for that, then install the light.

Looks good so far... We have our hyperspin working thank to Austin's help and bought the  button set-up from here. http://www.arcadeworlduk.com/products/2-Player-Arcade-Joysticks-Buttons-And-IPAC2-Wiring-Kit-No10.html went for the ipca2 with the 2 player setup got extra buttons for pinball flippers and a trackball.   Ours looks to be about as big as yours. We are stuck trying to figure out artwork still and button layout.  Can't wait to see the finished product ... we'll post some pics too soon, they on hubby's phone lol

Looking pretty good. Looks like you might be able to go bigger on the monitor. How wide is the interior width?

Instead of Plexiglass to cover the screen have you considered tinted, tempered glass instead to give it a more authentic arcade cab look? The tinted glass really helps to hide the monitor glass.

First off:

 

It's so weird to me that both you and Giga, 2 of the most helpful people here, don't have cabs.

I totally agree! If you too spent more helping yourselves instead of others hahaha. Love your work Austin, thanks

 

Yeh plexi glass is just so much easier to work with and its free for me ;) So i will be covering it with a bezel around the monitor screen (23" widescreen - also free, so cant be choosy) to match the theme i have.

 

The overall width is 700. The original plans were 600, but i felt it was too tight for 2 players. So less the 32mm of MDF side panels, the interior width is 668mm. Im disappointed because the week after i put it together, i found a 32" tv on the side of the road in council clean up that i can recover. Just too small!

 

I just need to have patience, i dont think this will be my last cabinet build ;)

The artwork was one of my favourite parts of the build. Happy to have a play around with a concept for you if you need help. I love designing. I've linked below the art that I'm putting on the sides:

oh nice that would be pretty sweet. do u have your hearts set on that. Id seen a few cool MAME examples that i loved. Ill share them with you guys if you want. Ofcourse, its just my personal preference.

did you use the wrong router bit? t moulding is tricky to get right, use some hot glue that stuff works very well so I'm told, god I'm itching to redo my cab, but my house needs sorting out first, cab looks great matey :)

Yeah i needed a 3mm straight router bit. I already had a 4mm, and didnt want to rely on it just squeezing in, and unless i ordered from overseas, was finding it hard to get a 3mm. Also, would have cost me $40!!!! The whole cabinet cost me $300 to build, so i couldnt justify $40 for a router bit, so i used Heavy Duty strength Liquid Nails (construction adhesive). It was very fiddley around the tight corners and kept popping out. So i taped it down and let it set overnight and it's not going anywhere!

 

The image was just from Google images, so luckily it was fairly high res already. You can see some pixelation up close, but not fussed about that. I'd say it was 300dpi, but i had to stretch it about 300%.
