The HyperSpin 2 beta is here!

We’re starting the first public testing phase with Platinum Members to keep the scope manageable while we test the current feature set and begin to add more. In the future, we’ll provide a version for basic members as well.  On behalf of the entire HyperSpin team, we look forward to another exciting adventure with our community.

I don't compress my roms (have 10tb of hdd space) just because its faster to load. Part of the emulation experience is instant access to entire libraries of games with (hopefully) faithful or enhanced gameplay. Waiting minutes for a ps2 game to launch isn't faithful to the original experience.

I've always wondered if uncompressing large zipped files constantly can put too much strain on a hdd and possibly shorten its lifespan.

This project is amazing, i understand perfectly it's not a priority. Perhaps in a future or if 7z will add the feature ^^

No, and most probably will never be. It is not that easy to support that in hyperlaunch for various reasons.

Besides that, any advance on these kind of things are usually catchup by other programs like 7z, so wasting our free time developing this is not a that good alternative as we do not have that much time available anyway.

If anyone wants to do this by themselves is another history. I am sure that any improvement made by any user will be included in hyperlaunch with almost no objections from djvj and brolly, as this was my exactly the case when I introduced to them the hyperpause test code that I made.

I think on the same way. I'm planning in buying a Synology Nas with 5 bays. My only fear, is that i have a lot of 1080p kv movies too  So, with so much heavy iso like PS, Dreamcast, GC, etc.... all space can be fulled quickly :dong:

Does anyone have any idea how to batch compress/convert from 7z/zip to RAR5?

This is really interesting for cd/dvd romset, is it supported trought RL online updater?

Dark,

The RL update that was relased last week some time will allow RL to extract RAR5 format archives.

If your RL is up to date through RLUI, it will work.

You just need to use the script I posted to convert the 7z and zip files to rar.  ;)

Thanks,

Ron

PS: Read the post as to how the script works on the RL site.

Tested it right now and yeah, it's fast enough on my c2q :)

Some suggestion on winrar when creating .rar5 files to optimize size/speed? I don't have full cd/dvd sets so i guess i can do it without a batch :)

I don't have any recommendations.  I just used the defaults.  ;)

So if I wanted to re-compress my Sega Saturn collection for example,  what is the best way to do so in bulk so I don't have to manually grab a bin and cue per title and zip them up individually, but at the same time "select all" games in a folder and zip them by title?

Rar5 all the way. Faster and better compression.
