Ipac or Xin mo?

Linkseo

Recommended Posts

looking to buy arcade sticks in the very near future. 2 sticks, LED 6 buttons each on top, plus 1 on each side and a 1 & 2 player buttons.  Do you recommend ipacs or xinmo modules? pros? cons?

Is one better then the other? Are they both user friendly to set up?

Thanks

I say iPac simply because of the amount of people posting topics that have trouble getting the Xin Mo to work.

The Xin Mo just seems to cause issues for most. Plus I hate the name. Plus keyboard encoders seem to cause less issues with most emulators than joystick encoders do.

However, there is a member here that is the Xin Mo master and he'll tell you the opposite. He will tell you that his parents were killed by an angry mob of iPacs, but it isn't true!

DO NOT LISTEN TO THIS MAN! I can't use his name as that may summon him from the Xin Mo pit of doom in which he dwells.

...does that help?

Only con I see in the ipac is that the winipac looks intimidating as heck. And I've looked for video tutorials on how to set it up and found nothing but foreign video tips. also I have to strip wires. (I know I'm being anal now)

Ipac is easy as to setup, its gui driven

They both work fine.

Ipac cost more but is more flexible. It's a better choice for the HyperSpin frontend due to the long time bug with gamepad commands since it will send keyboard commands. MAME also likes keyboard commands but works fine with gamepad commands. The ipac software is supported in RocketLauncher which will allow you to send different configurations based on your emulator or even per game.

Xin-mo costs less, comes with a wiring harness and there really isn't anything to setup. It will just work in Windows (without drivers or software) and is a better choice if you play a lot of PC games or use emulators that are expecting gamepad commands.

The question is do you want cheaper and more simple or more complex but flexible?

The Ipac is probably the way to go (especially if you might want a trackball or spinner down the road) but the xin-mo is much simpler if you don't plan to have a complex setup. Either way you'll likely find yourself building multiple configurations for the ipac or using xpadder or joytokey to make up for the areas each lack.

IMO - Anyone that can't configure the xin-mo is in over their head and will likely have issues with the ipac too.

Ipac. I have used both the the Ipac is my fav. More options and room to grow with your build. I purchased the Ipac do to the fact I was get a delay in some games and really bad in pinball games. I have the Ipac4 with 2 player setup and a trackball and it never gives me issues. Tons of options.

an Ipac comes pre programmed with the MAME default keys,  you don't even need the winpac software if you plan to  use the MAME default keys.

with that been said here is a con for the Ipac,  some emulators don't like the ALT, CTRL, Shift keys.   such as SSF (Sega Saturn)

MAME uses those keys,  so if you want to play the sega saturn with SSF,  you will need to remap your keys.

I don't have the Xin MO,  I have another generic Joystic encoder  GP-Wiz40

if you are using Retroarch,  you can easily wire up your buttons to match the Retroarch button layout (aka no need to remap any retroarch buttons),.

Since the Ipac is a keyboard encoder,  you will need to take more steps in order to remap the default joystick inputs to keyboard keys.

Please note that I'm not saying one is better then the other each encoder has its own set up routine.  Retroarch works perfect with a Ipac/keyboard or any other keyboard encoder.

Their are just extra steps you have to take

I personally prefer to run all my emulators with their default keyboard keys.  You can't do that with the ipac,  you can only do it with the Joystick encoder.

I would choose the Xin MO because its a joystick encoder (their are cheaper options) because I like to create Xpadder profiles for each emulator.

and I hope that posting in the Pinball Cabinet section of the forum was a mistake in your part.  if its not a mistake and you are looking for a Pinball cab controller,  you should be using the Freescale board as an input device.

You can have an all in one LEDWiz+joystick encoder+ nudging device +  Plunger Controller for only $20
