BK0420 Posted June 20, 2018 Posted June 20, 2018 Hello all i was wondering if this is worth having in my build? And is it easy to use?
artman999999 Posted June 20, 2018 Posted June 20, 2018 Somewhat hard to set up, and does not natively support HD. But it can be tricked into looking like HD, and gives a beautiful, custom result. Its not for everyone.
bigdic Posted June 20, 2018 Posted June 20, 2018 What artman said, expect long nights of frustration and troubleshooting. But the end result is worth it, it all depends how computer savvy you are I guess. I recommend you start with installing retroarch for emulation as it is relatively easy to setup and intergrating hyperlink as your front-end once your ready to take the plunge.
Spawk Posted June 20, 2018 Posted June 20, 2018 I will echo what these gentlemen said... except I am not a real big fan of RA. I would almost also suggest people set up another FE, any FE first before attempting HS... this will give you a better understanding of what the issues/benefits to using HS really are. If you aren't that proficient with computers, try something super lightweight like mGalaxy. If you are old like me and don't mind editing text files to do configuration, RetroFE (no GUI) is fantastic! I have a setup that doesn't even use RL although you can do so if you wish. I would love to try LB/BB but personally I just can't justify spending more money than I have already... especially since HS does everything/anything I need it to do.
gigapig Posted June 20, 2018 Posted June 20, 2018 I started on mame32ui long ago then Arcade@home, Maximus Arcade then here. I have what I want right here and if you want a project then it may be for you too. Check out our tutorials to see if it might be right for you.
Tribe Fan Posted June 20, 2018 Posted June 20, 2018 I tried Launchbox, but I wasn’t particularly happy with its performance. I have a higher end machine and it still seemed to run a little slow for me. When tweaking the optimization settings, I’ve always gotten very good performance out of hyperspin. Hyperspin is definitely much more laborious to get set up, but once you’ve learned how to get once system going, it’s pretty smooth sailing from there. I definitely recommend learning RetroArch too. It can run just about every system and is very easy to update. Good luck!
thatman84 Posted June 20, 2018 Posted June 20, 2018 Simple answer is YES Give it a try Official Hyperspin Tutorials Playlist HS Android Overview & Install HS Android Base Pack Download My Tutorials
ninja2bceen Posted June 20, 2018 Posted June 20, 2018 Yep it’s worth it but it does take a while because it’s all custom to how you like it. Took me about 10 hrs a week, for 5 years lol or 2600 hours and I have my perfect system. Wowza but seriously no front end can touch my set up or I mean hyperspin can but no one person here has everything the same, maybe they have bolts of mine and I have bolts of theirsWelcome to the community lolSent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Advance the cause to 100%. http://hyperbase.hyperspin-fe.com/ Planet Geekdom, Subscribe for Tutorials! https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCdcby-s2GwriaOHGmVC2vGA?sub_confirmation=1&app=desktop
bundangdon Posted June 23, 2018 Posted June 23, 2018 Since the answers here are highly biased, I have to offer some friendly objectiveness With all due respect, Hyperspin USED to be good, many years ago, and I know that after using it for several years. The only thing really keeping hyperspin alive is a great community of artwork designers, and once in a while someone suddenly pops in, promising that updates are coming. Anyone complaining how slow bigbox, emulationstation, or attractmode (other frontends) are, either gave up too quickly or probably spent too much time invested in their "rig" filled with hyperspin files, artwork, and so on.
bigdic Posted June 23, 2018 Posted June 23, 2018 I signed up to using hyperspin a couple of months ago for the first time and the reason was down to the way it looked. The wheel and theme really give that 80s arcade feel and once set up it works as smooth as it looks. I looked at others but nothing compared and looked rather dull. It is a pity the dev support sounds to be non existent for hyperspin and is a big turn off, I nearly went to launch box instead because of this and won't be subscribing due to the fact. Thank God for the die hard community members keeping it alive and kicking
