BlueGoblin Posted March 3, 2015 Posted March 3, 2015 What's the best wireless controller for the PC? I saw this... http://www.ebay.com/itm/Wireless-Bluetooth-Controller-for-PS3-PC-White-NEW/271665679326?_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D28774%26meid%3D0676cfd385004f1a8ae92786c7633058%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D2%26rkt%3D6%26mehot%3Dag%26sd%3D131389773860&rt=nc Thoughts?
FrankyRizzo Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 xbox controller has some dpad issues.... not as responsive as I would like. I use my ps3 controller.
JoeC3109 Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 I like the Xbox 360 silver controller, has a better D-pad than the stock one.
BlueGoblin Posted March 4, 2015 Author Posted March 4, 2015 If i go with a PS3 wireless controller, can it be a generic brand or should it be an actual Sony controller?
Bonoscot Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 I use a 360 pad for most games,but I have 2 x qanba q4raf fightsticks built into my cabinet
Cryofax Posted March 5, 2015 Posted March 5, 2015 If i go with a PS3 wireless controller, can it be a generic brand or should it be an actual Sony controller? If you order a generic one off amazon or ebay the odds are good it'll be a piece of crap. Especially at that price point. Personally I'd go with the real thing, but if you insist on trying a generic one at least get it from a store so you can return it easily. Some of those mail order ones are just useless Chinese garbage. The Logitech F710 PC controller is a great PC wireless controller which uses the Playstation style stick layout. If you already have 360 controllers though you can get a PC dongle for $20 and they are also excellent.
BlueGoblin Posted March 6, 2015 Author Posted March 6, 2015 Lets say I buy a PS3 dual shock. Those don't have dongles included correct?
vampirolatino2 Posted March 6, 2015 Posted March 6, 2015 I think i'll get a logitech 710 To be honest, the controller is crap. But do as you wish Go for a PS3 or PS4 if you have BT in the motherboard or Xbox 360 + dongle. For the price, I'll go for a reliable console controller. Trust me.
ghutch92 Posted March 6, 2015 Posted March 6, 2015 if you are going to play native pc games than get an xbox 360 controller. If not, any of the other controllers mentioned will work. if you need a wireless 360 controller, I would suggest this one since it comes with the receiver http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/en-us/p/xbox-360-wireless-controller-for-windows The included receiver allows you to connect 4 wireless controllers so you can find better or cheaper controllers to add to your setup as people start to sell off their 360 stuff. Awakened Posted March 6, 2015 Posted March 6, 2015 The Wii U Pro controller can look just like a 360 pad to Windows with this adapter. The DPad is quality and it has around an 80 hour battery life per charge I'll be curious to read impressions on how well the left trackpad on the Steam controller functions as a DPad for 2D games when that comes out in November: Maybe that haptic feedback magic will make it more precise for digital inputs than you'd expect.
iNTiGOD Posted March 6, 2015 Posted March 6, 2015 I think i'll get a logitech 710 I've got 2x f710. Pretty happy with the controller but on occasion the wireless dongle cuts out and button presses get stuck. Can be frustrating. Not really much support from logitech. If I'd have my way again I'd grab the wii controller as mentioned. I'm quite sure PS3 controllers still have their issues with connecting to a pc but maybe things have improved since I last looked. BlueGoblin Posted March 6, 2015 Author Posted March 6, 2015 ok ok.... i will take your advice and purchase an Xbox 360 Wireless Controller for Windows. Are you sure it comes with a receiver/dongle?
Cryofax Posted March 6, 2015 Posted March 6, 2015 Just an FYI, there is no difference between the 360 controller for Windows vs the one for your console. Just the dongle (which is sold separately) so if by chance you have 360 controllers all you need is the dongle. I'm not sure if the one "for windows" includes the dongle or not. Several on amazon don't show they do and some in the Q&A section complained it doesn't. P.S. My Logitech has worked great for me, but the comments here made me wonder so I checked their forums and a lot of people complaining about connection issues, so perhaps I've been lucky. Never had one issues with my 360 controllers on my PC so that may be the safer bet. Microsoft does know how to make great gamepads (going all the way back to the sidewinder).
BlueGoblin Posted March 6, 2015 Author Posted March 6, 2015 Where do I purchase the dongle and which one specifically?
Cryofax Posted March 6, 2015 Posted March 6, 2015 Where do I purchase the dongle and which one specifically? The exact name is "Xbox 360 Wireless Gaming Receiver for Windows". Looks like there are cruddy Chinese knockoffs on Amazon lol. I'd get one at an electronics store to be safe.
Fromlostdays Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 I use an 8 dollar mayflash adapter with a wii pro. http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/71Z-JFre8DL._SL1500_.jpg And http://images.nintendolife.com/news/2013/01/wii_u_virtual_console_games_support_wii_classic_controller_and_pro_controller/large.jpg (This one feels more like an snes controller but its not as small. Nothing beat genuine nintendo made Dpads as far as I'm concerned. Xbox 360 controller for n64 right up to pc games. By the by, any wired xbox 360 controller works automatically with windows. Just don't get one of the ones that charge to battery (can detach from the wire) and you're fine. Walter:beerglass:
ghutch92 Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 I bought this one from the microsoft store and it came with a dongle (you know it's not a microsoft knockoff when buying from microsoft). http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/en-us/p/xbox-360-wireless-controller-for-windows A few other stores sell them as well. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16823109243&nm_mc=KNC-GoogleAdwords-PC&cm_mmc=KNC-GoogleAdwords-PC-_-pla-_-PC+Game+Controllers-_-N82E16823109243&gclid=CMfa_t6xlcQCFTQV7AodAwoALw&gclsrc=aw.ds http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Controller-Windows/dp/B004QRKWKQ http://www.bestbuy.com/site/microsoft-xbox-360-wireless-controller-black/2589153.p?id=1218503724374&skuId=2589153&ref=06&loc=01&ci_src=14110944&ci_sku=2589153&extensionType=pla_multichannel:g&s_kwcid=PTC!pla!!!79814246079!g!!46591225479&kpid=2589153&k_clickid=132d8090-9991-45e3-a9c0-467f05a0345c&kpid=2589153&lsft=ref:212,loc:1&ksid=132d8090-9991-45e3-a9c0-467f05a0345c&ksprof_id=15&ksaffcode=1190&ksdevice=c Like already mentioned in a previous post built in wired xbox 360 controllers natively work with windows. I also like the 360 controller because all the controller prompts for games in my steam library use the xbox 360 instruction images. This is the best wireless controller solution I've ever found for classic gaming: http://www.amazon.com/Wireless-Wii-Classic-Controller-PC/dp/B006JIZAFM/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1425747713&sr=8-3&keywords=mayflash+wii+classic+controller I am not a fan of the xbox 360 at all for these purposes; the d-pad it downright atrocious in my opinion. I always loved the Wii classic controller for virtual console games and was thrilled when I found a PC adapter. Can't recommend this solution enough.
BlueGoblin Posted March 7, 2015 Author Posted March 7, 2015 But will this Wii controller work flawlessly with PC games?
marxkemp Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 Sure. I guess windows will see it as an 360 controller
