FrankyRizzo Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 HAs these been any work on this topic lately? Am just curious that the best emulators for each system are at this point. I like Retro Arch because of the shaders. But also want to make sure I have max compatibility and accurate emulation.
Styphelus Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 Retroarch uses the cores from the other emulators so in 90% of cases, you are better off with Retroarch. The only systems I can think off where you would be better off without it is the Sega Saturn and Mame. I also prefer Mess for Mess systems like Colecovision, and even Atari 7800. If you want max compatibility you will need to setup 2 emulators in some cases. Retroarch as the main one and a secondary for those rare games that won't run under certain cores.
FrankyRizzo Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 Do you use the real MESS setup? or the MESS core in retroarch?
Styphelus Posted June 12, 2015 Posted June 12, 2015 Real Mess with HLSL effects enabled. They are as good as the Retroarch shaders. As far as I know you can't save states if using the Mess core in Retroarch. At least you couldn't several months ago. Using real Mess solves that problem.
Iggy Posted July 10, 2015 Posted July 10, 2015 Alrighty all....ill be compiling a much needed list on our tutorials section on best emulators for each system (to go off what djvj had compiled). Im going to look at multi-emulators for one section and single emulators as another (as some people do not like to use multi-emulators such a Retroarch/Mednafen/FBA, etc) along with major version numbers. Stay tuned!
Iggy Posted July 10, 2015 Posted July 10, 2015 Ok...could you point me to this website you speak of?......
Iggy Posted July 11, 2015 Posted July 11, 2015 Anyways....ill get a list going for everyone to use this weekend hopefully.
Iggy Posted July 11, 2015 Posted July 11, 2015 NP...is it this site: http://nonmame.retrogames.com/ ?
meaning Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 hey there, noob question maybe but : I try to grab MESS and get redirected to MAME. WSo, what about it ? Is mess mame ? is mame mess ? what should I grab ? and what about mess and mame cores available in RetroArch ? does it mean I could eventually use RetroArch for EVERYTHING? thanls !
SIMPLYAUSTIN Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 MESS and MAME are in fact the same program as of now. they have both builds is one.. called MAME. RA can in fact run MESS and MAME. However RA uses cores, these cores are kinda like the Emulator files it uses to run said emu or core. Problem is that yes, it emulates MESS and MAME. However the builds in the cores in RA have in the past been very outdated. I think its something like MAME 0.38 or something... we are now up to like 0.63 so you can imagine the bugs when running the older versions.
thcdgaf Posted July 16, 2015 Posted July 16, 2015 austin is right retroarch mess was mess when i tried it mess out it works better it got some small screen thing going on at amstrad gx4000 on retroarch

Dilated18 Posted November 16, 2015 Posted November 16, 2015 Is the stella core in retroarch better then using the stella emulator directly for atari 2600?
craiganderson Posted November 22, 2015 Posted November 22, 2015 Anybody have an opinion for atari 5200? kat or mess? still need both? NonMame says MESS/MAME (http://nonmame.retrogames.com/) thanks in advance craig
dougan78 Posted November 22, 2015 Posted November 22, 2015 I am using retroarch for 5200. Probaly kat5200 core if available. 1

djvj Posted January 27, 2016 Author Posted January 27, 2016 Moving the list to the RL forum since I won't be updating this one here: http://www.rlauncher.com/forum/showthread.php?2803-Best-Emulator-For-Each-System
rastan Posted February 7, 2016 Posted February 7, 2016 I get sluggish performance using BSNES which is weird as hell considering how old the emu is and that I run snes9x and other EMU's perfectly.
rastan Posted February 8, 2016 Posted February 8, 2016 BSNES is made for me accurate emulation I believe so may not run as smoothly yeah, perhaps I need to play a real SNES lol because maybe I'm just used to how the other emulators run...
