A few people have tested it, the beta is now available for the public. Here is the link for 4.3.1 beta:

Keep in mind it's still beta and might eventually have a couple tweaks. Enjoy the drag and drop feature!

The tool will allow you to specify multiple ROM folders, prompt you with a directory of where to extract your compressed files (if needed).

When everything is all set, click rename and you will be prompted with where to save the files.

Quick question about this tool. I have been usining no-intro rom sets and Hypersync to setup my Gameboy wheel (other wheels too). When I do a rom audit using a xml updated from Hypersync inside HyperLaunch it is missing games that are named different form the xml. Example Castlevania Adventire is actually The (USA) from Castlevania - The Adventure (USA).zip. Is Don's tool the best way to make sure that I have a matching gamedatabase XML that works with all the hypersynch media.

My guess would be yes, but I figured I would consult you experts before experimenting as I have been on a setup marathon today!

Finally got to try it out, seems to do exactly what I had stated above, great tool thanks!

4.3.2 is ready for testing. Please note that the ROM renamer has not had an adequate amount of testing for this release. If you want something more stable, please try 4.3.1 or the official 4.2 (in signature). However, if you wish to live on the wild side; I could always use a guinea pig.

Features in this beta include:

ROM Renamer: Far more efficient scanning (no need to unzip files before scanning, with the exception of nes and n64). This only partially tested and could use some help with this.

HyperList Converter: catver.ini support (add genres to your MAME XML list)

List Merger: Added drag and drop support. Just drag the files to merge into the window!

ROM Renamer: Added drag and drop support. Just drag the folders to rename into the window!

List Generator: Added drag and drop support. Just drag the XML files to the desired configuration fields!

Edit: link removed, see below posts for latest beta.

Rom Renamer works pretty good except after renaming the files it always leaves all the roms in the default Don's Hyperspin Tools folder with the application even thou you have the zipped and renamed to another folder. So you have to manually go back and delete them everytime or am I not checking something so it deletes them after renaming.

Also is it possible to add a feature to rename both the roms and the wheels (at same time) as I had to rename my roms but I needed to do the same for the wheels so they would show up since they both used my own roms2xml using your Dons HyperList Converter which works really nice as well thanks for the awesome tools btw.

Take a screenshot of your configuration screen and rom folder. Are these compressed files? What format are the compressed files?

Also, was this XML file modified or is it download from HyperList?

I was able to reproduce the issue. Reading compressed files when renaming were not working. As a result, files were not being renamed in the output folder.

( hence why this is a beta release :) )

See below for 4.3.4 beta which has this major fix, along with a couple other fixes.

In retrospective, this should have been caught earlier. This helps further show that if you are having troubles, post it on the forums. You likely aren't the only one with the issues.

Again, thanks for all your help in testing this beta!

Hey Don.

Not sure if this has come up before or if it is even still relevant/possible...

Have you considered adding Ranking to your list generator?

i rather opt for having user created columns to fill freely, which can be exported to personalized XML tags, regardless if HS ues them or not.

it may make reorganizing DBs much easier, when upgrading e.g. from 0.144 to 0.149 MAME.

Hey Don,

With your ROM renamer, is there any way to de-select a match once it has been made?

To specify - if best-guess finds a match that isn't correct, I'd rather de-select the incorrect match before selecting "Rename Files!" so that the file's name isn't changed incorrectly to match the XML entry that best-guess appointed to it.

For example - Best guess returned a match for "Defender II (USA)" in the Dat-O-Matic NES XML to "Legend of Zelda, The (USA) (Rev A) (Gamecube Edition)" in EmuMovies' audio samples. I can't deselect this match (as far as I know), so if I go through with the batch rename, I'll be changing the Legend of Zelda sample file to "Defender II (USA).mp3". Because there is no Defender II sample, I can't change it to the correct sample file.

Love the toolset!

has the incorrect folder procedure been sorted or does it still rename the cd games with diffrent names and place the wrong games in the wrong folders
