Ok, link is back up for public beta! See the first thead in this post.

The beta now supports renaming CD images (cue/bin,ccd,gdi,etc..)

Fuzzy renaming accuracy has significantly been improved (roman numerals, no-intro, tosec, goodmerge support);

Filter Lists - when verifing that games exist in the filter application can you use the RL settings instead of the hyperspin settings?

Filter Lists - Include Game Info Data and Statistics Data from RL data lists for filtering purposes. HyperLaunch\Data\Game Info and HyperLaunch\Data\Statistics

Merge Lists - add an option to not include the exe tag when merging. I sometimes like to merge genre lists and I don't need the exe tags for those, also because of RL this tag is no longer needed.

List Splitter - Can you append the genre.xml instead of overwriting it. I have a few custom genres in there.

Rom Renamer - Maybe an undo feature that reads from the log and undoes my last renaming session.

Create Lists - New Program? I want to feel like brolly making my own lists. Maybe use python plug-in scripts to incorporate scrapers.

You asked about new ideas :)

I did come across a bug today... in the parking lot... it was a roach, a big one, looked like it could eat a small mouse.

I've sent you my main ones. Still would like to be able to enter data directly into the xml list. I love the layout but it just seems incomplete without being able to click a cell and enter data/also copy and paste from one cell to another would make this truly awesome.

Also a one click genre.xml generator. When you open an xml list - a button should be able to make the genre.xml from the complete table. Or it should display a list of the genres available from the loaded xml and ask which ones to include.

Possibly have one column for video/snap/artwork1/artwork2/artwork3/artwork4 etc

Also possible have a similar screen for hyperpause docs/artwork eg cab/controls/manuals/pcb

Also possibly someway of displaying a thumb of cell highlighted...you could make the already included video displayer dynamic to show cell contents.

Hope these are possible. There is just so much potential here...thanks

Are you talking about editing existing rows or creating new rows? Will the ability to edit year, genre, manufacurer and rating be adequate?

If you are looking to create new lists -- have you tried using the list creator, or is this a case where you want to add one or two rows?

Initially, I noticed that some roms had date of manufacture missing and I wanted to update it directly. Then I noticed that many were the same date so it would have been easy to type 1982 once and then copy to every blank cell.

I then found when creating my own custom lists that I often just had rom name and description complete so I had to enter everything manually. A tedious task. If it were possible to enter data into any cell and also be able to create new blank rows this program would take over every other program I've tried. It would be like a simple spreadsheet for hyperspin compliant xml lists. The copy paste option would have data entry without typos. Eg Sports - boxing and not Sports-boxing.

I don't know what's involved in being able to make this editable it's just high on my wish list

I hope this explains my thoughts

I already have it implemented, I just needed to know which columns had to be editable.

All columns would be great...does that cause a problem. I'm not at my machine to offer specifics

Do you have a beta copy ready to test?

Also - do you have update log so we can see new features / updated parts?

I will get another public beta out today. I will make name and descriptions editable.

OTTOMH...I would think Genre and Date of manufacture need to be editable

Could we have an option where the correct roms would join up with the artwork that goes with that particualar game. Cause that way you wouldent have to scavenger around with deleting or sorting extra artwork. As rains hypersync program took out the matching rom artwork feature which is quite annoying cause not all artwork groups equal up in numbers. As i figgure this way would make everything equal out in groups as ive reported about this problem many times something needs to be done about it.

Possibly some link program would be useful for what im talking about could possibly name it hyper link basically what it does is matches avalible artwork for the game it goes with and only matched by the hyperlisting database.

thx regards relic and keep me posted for when you want me to test for your future updates

pS Im testing the newest Beta release now and i must say im impressed with your efforts i see youve added an option of adding multiple folders to scan as well as having an option of having every game zipped which makes perfect sense since the new hyperlaunch uses loading bars for the zipped roms with there fade screens. Just wanted to know does this open up zip folders in one package and scan the lot as well that would be a handy feature as i have a huge 52 no intro rom set where all are in zips and you have to extract each one before you can test it with rom renamer.

Ill report if i find any bugs or issues

Initial thoughts....

Love new media view!

Love being able to edit cells!

I see left clicking on a cell draws a black border so you can see what's highlighted. Would it be possible to be able to copy that cell into many at once...? Such as a ctrl click for non sequential selecting or shift click for selecting sequential cells?

Also would it be possible to have a "mini" prog that didn't deal with filtering just wants an xml to edit and then save as....?

Again only played with it for 5 mins

GREAT UPDATE Emb

this for sure is coming along supernice :)

one old request of mine would be "custom columns"; and I know I repeat myself ovr and over, while keeping you DB guys annoyed over and over.

description:

------------

custom columns allow to create a new column in Don's LG table view, that is reflected in the XML file like this

<game>

<$_custom_name>Hello World</$_custom_name>

</game>

i guess this would be the last mile for me with Don's LG; emb, you really brought this along nicely; my sincere thanks!!!

another request of mine would be some form of HS DB Diff Tool, to compare "old DB's" vs. "new DB's", including a "select and move data" function.

kind regards

Emb...would it be easy for you to give a brief update with each release?

Eg v.17

Added feature to Edit cells name/desc etc

Added feature to view media wheel/artwork

To do in future....

Add multiple copy/paste function

Add mini xml editor with save as function

Add media columns for hyperpause docs/art

Sometimes it difficult to know what's been added or updated so testing is hard to pinpoint.

This program is getting real interesting - the best I've used so far. ! ;-)

I hope my input is of assistance.

Hi, the renamer still doesn't find those kind of names :

looking for : Final Fantasy II

rom : Final Fantasy 2

looking for : Dragon Ball (Japan)

rom : Dragon Ball - what the hell (Japan) * ***

looking for : Beat'Em & Eat'Em

rom : Beat'Em and Eat'Em

looking for : Challenge of.... Nexar, The (USA)

rom : Challenge of... Nexar, The (USA) **

result for all these match tries : nothing found

* only 1 rom with Dragon Ball in the name in the whole directory so it should say "hey i'm pretty sure 75% this is the one"

** only one dot missing, it should guess it with high certainty %

*** no there's no real game named Dragon Ball - what the hell ! it's just an example

Other than that, the mouseover wheel event was working well in previous to 4.3.16 releases, then it had been narrowed down to around 100 pixels to the left of each side part ("XML List" and "Files"), it was working on the whole area before. (I mean rolling the wheel of your mouse to go updown the lists without having to click inside and selecting an item)

Then, when we cancel the Game Selection window (close it because you forgot something) and return to the first window, you can't start another renaming unless you choose another log file because you forgot to close the file descriptor in that situation. It says the "Rom Renamer.log" file is in use. (Maybe that's how you wanted it though)

Finally I'd be glad to be able to disable columns display at will, honestly I'm working on 19'' 4:3 monitor and I always have to narrow down to the max almost all columns that are no use for me (I don't really need to know the CRCs value.. as long as it finds they're the same it's ok for me). Knowing if a rom is crc matched or guessed is needed but to save space, I wouldn't have used a column just for CRC Matched and Guessed words. Maybe a background cell coloring would be enough. I understand the need for the "Old Folder" and "Folder" columns for some people but all my roms are in 1 folder for each system. So it definitely not needed. Why this column width problem ? Because a lot of roms got very long names. We can't narrow down columns width to 0, there's always like 20 pixels lost. And if we resize "Game" and "Orginal Filename" to a large value, then we always need to go left / right wth the hor. slider when selecting items. It might not be hard but it gets annoying when checking thousands of lines. (why checking? because we have to, since it ain't perfect. But it's already saving a ton of times though)

The checkbox and icon link are and convenient and ok for our use.

That's all I can think of for now. Gonna add mismatch patterns when I cross on them.

Good work.

Dompau, that is why it is called a best guess ;). Pattern matching is not 100 percent accurate. It is nearly impossible to acheive 100 percent accuracy with fuzzy. Even with that, I am surprised it did not match final fantasy 2/ final fantasy ii. Ill look into it.

EDIT: the logging file was intentional.

Ill add show/hide columns for the fields. Ill also add a resizing pane between the game list and file list.

Thanks.

I get the inclination that it might not be a good idea to add custom fields in the actual hyperspin files themselves for performance and distribution purposes. If you can think of another way of doing this, a way which does not require a substantial amount of effort to implement, ill consider doing it.

Most of the information you could want that is not in the xml can be found in HyperLaunch\Data\Game Info. Files are named after the system, each ini section is named after the game's database name, and the key names in the ini could be the names for the new columns in Filter Lists app. The games all have the same ini keys so no custom info added there either, meaning it's easier support.

Let me start off by thanking you for your efforts. When this tool is perfected it will become legendary. Legendary I say!

I decide to give this tool a try. I downloaded it yesterday from your beta link. One of the main things I've been itching to make work is the redump collection from PD. It's been sitting on my NAS box just burning up space.

The tool itself did a wonderful job fuzzy matching. I enjoyed the fact a "warning" window appeared saying it's much quicker to move and not copy because it could take days. Really good to know.

Here's the bad part - I did choose to move the files. The process itself IS GOING TO TAKE DAYS even moving. The reason why is the default (currently unchangeable) temp directory the program selects is the local appdata\local\temp.

So the program is extracting from my E: drive to c: drive then moving back to E: drive.

The option to change the default temp directory IMHO really should be added. Most people I know have their rom data on another drive drive so whether it's a NAS or just a single drive moving files back and forth between drives is adding unnecessary time to the process.

I started the process last night at 9:00pm, out of 1362 files when I checked it at 6:30am it had completed 136. That's basically 16 games an hour. ~ 3.5 days to complete. To eliminate any possible confusion, keep in mind my NAS box is currently attached to my Windows x64 2008 server via USB2.0 which is faster than going over my my slow ass outdated 100 base network.

My second issue with rom renamer (be it very minor) is when you reach the point of selecting the directory you want to move the newly created files to, if you actually lose focus on this window by going to manually create a new folder, when attempting to locate or alt+tab back to your browse window it can no longer be found and requires a person to shutdown rom renamer and start over. I suggest adding a create folder option at this juncture.

Lastly, the 3rd issue I have is I have tried rom renamer on 2 different systems of mine. My server and my arcade which runs windows 8. Whether I choose to run rom renamer as admin or not, I have been confronted with the error that the renamer log file cannot be written to. Not that it matters to me at all just an FYI for you.

Thanks again for your efforts.

Thanks for your feedback. I'll add an option of where to temporarily extract files for speed.

I'll also create a workaround for your browse output folder issue. You can actually right click on a folder and click new folder to create a new one. For intuitive purposes, I agree with you.

The log file in use is intended so people dont overwrite it if they are having issues. Ill come up with something more accomodating.

The only time I had a problem with the log file, as stated is if you have two instances of the app trying to run at the same time. (Over write with second instance)I figured this out because I was trying to do two jobs at the same time.
