Hello Antos,

An odd request, but....is it possible within HyperMarquee to have one element (ex. marquee graphics) NOT change during game selection. But when game actually starts, the marquee is displayed? Also, if this is possible...can it be applied to one element in the event you have multiple elements your displaying?

Thank you,

Craig

So in doing that...I would then set the next alternative artwork directory as to where the actual marquees are?? Is that correct?

Hi Guys Im having trouble getting the System logos to show when cycling through main menu wheel when i boot up HS, HM launches fine but just displays the MAME logo and it just stays on the mame logo never changes. I have it pointed to Main menu wheel artwork using [system].png wildcard at the end (D:\Arcade\Media\Main Menu\Images\Wheel\[system].png). Marquee transistion working fine inside system wheels just on main menu thats problem. Parameters set in EDS as false MAME-System-Marquee_Artwork "[game]" "[system]". Any help be great. Im Using HyperMarquee (Alpha Test Version 0.4.0.G - Revision G) - on Win 7. Cheers

Not sure that I completely understand but this could be done using 2 different instances, instead of one. The first instance could be static during game selection (event 7,8) and the other instance will get activated on game launch/stop (Event 3/4). You will have to play with the Ledblinky events, but this should work fine trying with the list of available events.

Antos,

Thank you, thank you!!! That information helped greatly! I've now got things configured the way I need them to be. I'm loving HyperMarquee more every day!

Hi Folks,

My first post to this thread, so let me first say that I am REALLY LOVING this fantastic program! Thanks so much Antos for all your efforts creating this and improving based on user feedback. This has really evolved into a "must have" tool for any cabinet - I can't imagine removing it now! Sevenseal also a big thanks to you, of course, for the fantastic support and information you have provided, which has silently helped me get as far as I have.

I have *almost* had success setting this up to function exactly as I would like (I am currently using Version 0.4.0I on Windows 7.), but still have 2 questions I'm hoping you can help answer:

1) I have an instance setup to display the theme as the backdrop on one of my displays. However, I only want it to display the background image from the theme and nothing else. I see in the GUI that there are check boxes to select each element of the theme, but most of them are grayed out and I don't see anything I can manually adjust in the XML file. Nonetheless, this seemed to work fine in Version 0.4.0i, but I noticed when I attempted to try out the latest version, 0.4.1 that a lot of unwanted elements of the theme were now showing up too. My workaround was to "downgrade" the version back again, but would not want to miss out on new features in the works! Therefore, is there some way that I am missing to properly configure only the background image from the theme to show up?

2) I have the same issue as hondohc with my main wheel being "frozen" and only the sub-wheels changing as desired when I scroll through the wheel:

Hi Guys Im having trouble getting the System logos to show when cycling through main menu wheel when i boot up HS, HM launches fine but just displays the MAME logo and it just stays on the mame logo never changes. I have it pointed to Main menu wheel artwork using [system].png wildcard at the end (D:\Arcade\Media\Main Menu\Images\Wheel\[system].png). Marquee transistion working fine inside system wheels just on main menu thats problem. Parameters set in EDS as false MAME-System-Marquee_Artwork "[game]" "[system]". Any help be great. Im Using HyperMarquee (Alpha Test Version 0.4.0.G - Revision G) - for XP. Cheers

I have many different systems on my "main" wheel. When I launch Hyperspin all instances of HyperMarquee start just fine (I think I have 8 instances configured total - away from the machine at the moment). However, it will not update as I scroll through the systems. Only when I select a system and the sub-wheel is displayed do all the instances change as desired. When I exit back to the main menu it will display whatever was showing last in the sub-wheel and this will remain static until again a sub-wheel is chosen.

I have spent more time than I care to admit playing around with the LEDBlinky events but have been unable to find a magic combination to resolve this. It's as if when I'm in the main wheel it's not sending any LEDBlinky events at all when I scroll. I have also played around using the "gamename" variable in place of the "system" variable, thinking maybe LEDBlinky treats each item in the Main Menu wheel as a "game" just like it would in a sub-wheel... no go.

The only obvious difference I see in my situation VS. hondohc's is that I am using Version 0.4.0I on Windows 7.

Any help with these points greatly appreciated... please let me know if there are any questions or if additional information is needed.

Many thanks!

To Dinodino,

Sevenseal and I are really enjoying the adventure so far and this community has definitely something to do with it! It is not much about the app itself than the fun and the relationship we are experiencing here. You are so right, Sevenseal is a key component and he brings excellent support and being very generous of his time. ..to users and to me; Technical & spiritual as far I am concerned. :) We can speak for hours just discussing on best improvements, user support, debugging or wish list. We are just like kids. I must say that this community is fantastic where passion make this site alive and turns to provide very constructive and supportive inputs for this project amongst others HS projects. So just a big and honestly thank the community from me!

Frankly, I initially did HM for myself. Oh, don't take me wrong, that was not for selfish reasons, I was simply terrified to share something here. BBB is a visionary that produced a product way beyond my expectations and surprised all the community with something that I couldn't even dream about! Just posting something here was intimidating I must admit. I feel better now lol! :)

Here are my first comments to your questions/observations;

Let me have a look at this and get back to you soon.

2) I have the same issue as hondohc with my main wheel being "frozen" and only the sub-wheels changing as desired when I scroll through the wheel:. Please check with seveseal with this one first, and than I will jump in if it can't work successfully. I would recommend to use one instance for now to narrow down the problem. Let's minimize it to it's minimum essence. Being able to reproduce it on our side would be great.

Hi guys.

Im sure this is an easy one. The mouse cursor is showing on the top of the marquee screen while I'm in hyperspin. I don't see any options in hyper marquee for hiding the cursor.

I appreciate the help.

Thanks

Success!

Sevenseal, thanks for that outline! Also, thank you Antos for the suggestion to disable and start with a single instance... that also saved me some sanity :)

Turns out that hsfilewatcher was definitely it. I had completely neglected to set it up as I did not understand it's purpose. Through some experimentation last night I've managed to get some things working on the main menu as desired, but a new issue had surfaced that I needed to work out.

When I launched HyperSpin, multiple occurrences of the same HyperMarquee instance were loading. This had the undesired effect of instances being "stuck" on top of the desired ones with static images on top of the intended ones.

There may still be something unusual about how I've configured everything, but when i thinned the start events down to only 3 & 9 now everything is working exactly like I wanted... at least from the testing I've been able to do so far. One of each HyperMarquee instance loads and updates as intended when i scroll the main menu, sub-menus, and switch between menus.

Thanks again for your quick replies and support!

what do you mean by stuck? could you post a video or a couple sreenshots of it displaying the issue that you are describing? I thinking it could be a transition shader effect left behind and need to change the transition to another thats doesnt have that result, thats my thought

Presumably because of problems with the way I had configured things there were several events triggering the launch of the same HyperMarquee instance simultaneously. Again, probably due to another issue with the way I had things configured, some of these instances were not updating properly resulting in extra images onscreen. In some cases these extra images would "overlap" the instances that were properly displaying the image I wanted (or could be seen underneath due to image transparency).

What I can share is a screenshot showing these multiple instances in task manager. Here you can see, for example, that the "display2-theme" instance is running twice... once it was launched with the parameters "Unknown" "Main Menu", the other time it was launched with the parameters "Sega - Game Gear" "Main Menu".

I have been able to configure things to get past these issues on my system, so no worries there. Hope this helps explain a little bit better what I was seeing.

I am happy to pre-release beta version for testers. This is for testers only, I haven't test this at all, other than home alpha quick and dirty testing.

You can download this new version in the download section. Just replace HyperMarquee.exe

By using this version you agree to make testing and provide your findings and comments. Thanks!

Improvements

- Now able to individually display/hide all theme artworks components. Requested by Dinodino

- Artwork Cycling (slide show) - Now supports shader transition between images.

Bug Fix

- Mouse cursor persistent - Reported by Imagamejunky (NB: Will not hide in debug/test mode)

- Artwork Cycling (slide show) - Now using Artwork4 - Reported by Gooch

- Artwork Cycling (slide show) - Cycling bug fixed when using pipes in conjunction with EDS.

Hi Antos,

Thanks a lot for the addition of the theme component selection in version 0.4.2. From my testing so far it's working great!

Question... Is it possible to display SWF animations from the theme, or is that not technically feasible?

I have a number of themes on my main menu for example that use SWF animations for the background. I'm sure you've seen many of them. I'm attaching a Daphne theme as an example of what I'm talking about. With these sorts of themes, HyperMarquee currently just displays a black background, at least on my system as configured... would be great to have the animated background!

Regards again for all your efforts,

Hi sevenseal,

Attaching the files, as you mentioned. Note however, at the moment everything is working as desired with the settings I have ;-)

I am working on some custom control mapping images, so soon I will open a new can of worms trying to display these images on my 3rd monitor. You will see I have a placeholder for this in my EDS Settings (Display3-Image) but I'm not really ready to do much with this yet.

Thanks!

Thank you, you are welcome!

- Question... Is it possible to display SWF animations from the theme, or is that not technically feasible? Not right now, sadly, this is the biggest challenge that HyperMarquee is facing. I developed HM using .Net technology (no regrets) but I am facing many limitations around .swf and alpha blending videos. Be assured that more theme compatibility will be added when possible. Maybe with the release of Visual Studio 2015? One interim solution could be to make HM compatible with his own theme format by converting .swf to .flv within the HS themes. But that come with a price to pay. It is the 'best' solution I have found so far.

Thank you for the reply. Too bad.

A suggestion for a workaround:

What about adding an optional checkbox for Marquee style "Hyperspin Theme" on the HS Theme tab "Use artwork file as background when Background.png is not found" (or words to that effect). This way, if you have a theme with only a .swf background at least you would be able to place artwork in the folder specified by the "Artwork File" location from the Artwork tab to display a static background. (Or if it makes more sense to you, or seems too confusing to "recycle" the use of the artwork file path in this way, just add a place to specify the artwork location on the HS theme tab)

Just a thought...
