rastan Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 I truly understand the idea of preserving stuff but honestly as far as enjoying stuff.. I just don't get having every system. I just removed a few more systems from my Hyperspin (not exactly going to delete them from my Harddrive because as far as preserving them... I still appreciate them enough to keep them around for now anyway) Atari Lynx - I just can't bring myself to play these games on a HD TV.. just looks like crap to me... Atari Jaguar - I tried with this one.... some of the games actually have good graphics but I can't see myself playing any of these games. Sega CD - To be honest I only kept this one around because of SPACE ACE & DRAGON'S LAIR but I have versions on 3DO, the remastered PC and Daphne so no reason to keep the Sega CD.... the graphics just seem horrible and I personally don't remember the SEGA CD being all that back when it was actually out. Sega 32X - Pretty much like the SEGA CD... I don't remember it being that HOT when it was around.... GENESIS pretty much held up until Sega Saturn tried to be the new champ.... the games and graphics just ain't doing it for me so it had to go. What systems have you removed from your Hyperspin?
rastan Posted December 8, 2015 Author Posted December 8, 2015 Others i kicked already: Game Boy Advanced Sega Saturn C64 (prefer using outside any front end) Amiga (same as C64.. way too much tweaking involved if you're really into amiga... some stuff doesn't work with certain chipsets/Amiga OS's, etc... just a pain enjoying it in a front end for me... rather use it outside of the front end)
KlopjerO Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 game boy advanced ? Seriously ? such nice games on that system. sharp X1 (my japanese sucks, the Super mario bros. is pretty funny to play...screen by screen) Sharp 68000 (i was enthousiastic about it, mainly because of Castlevania, but then I found out that that particular castlevania got ported to Playstation) NEC PC FX ( Once again my japanese sucks) NEC Turbografx CD (no particular reason, just wanted to show my hoarding gremlin who's boss) Philips VG 5000 (THIS is a crappy system) What I tend to do when adding systems I'm not to familiar with is 1. get the best off list 2. get the obscure gems list 3. popular franchises. That usualy keeps me interested. | My themes / downloads | Get the MS-DOS Wheel sound pack | Get your MS-DOS game themes here | Get the MS-DOS wheel set here | My YouTube channel | WarcrafT - Lord of the clans |ZeroJay's Ultimate DooM archive
CarloCGC Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 Amiga is a core system for me 2500 games from mine and my partners youth some great titles on there like Another world, Elite and Alien Breed. I dropped old monochrome systems like Gamecom and Pokemon mini, Virtual Boy.
guyverjay Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 getting rid of saturn and gameboy advance?? Big no no for me I'd keep sega cd just for Sonic CD lol
zillion23 Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 A lot of these systems don't look that bad if you run them thru retroarch with the nice shaders that they have and play them with scanlines the way they were ment to be played. The sega cd has one of my favorite rpg's of all time with Lunar : The Silver Star. A lot of it also has to do with the memories and nostalgia of what you grew up playing.
phulshof Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 In all honesty, I only play arcade, snes and MSX games. Everything else is there for other people to enjoy. My wife used to own a NES and Sega Genesis, so she prefers those games. Sent from my SM-G920F using Tapatalk
kyoken Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 I have a sega cd final fight iso with enhanced colors, better than original, the game is awesome, cd arranged music, more stages, and two players!, http://www.sega-16.com/forum/showthread.php?28100-Gabriel-Pyron-s-Color-Hacks!!!-(Golden-Axe-Street-Fighter-II-Final-Fight-CD-etc) Enviado desde mTalk
Styphelus Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 Game and Watch is terrible. That got the axe fairly quick. Future Pinball (I hate theloading screens), Mugen, Sega Pico, and Phillips CDi all got the axe. Tried setting up some of Craig Anderson's obscure systems and quickly found out why they are obscure and why they should stay that way. The Amstrad GX-4000 has some of the worst games ever created so that might go soon as well. Not sure yet.I also have Fairchild Channel F setup and I have no idea way. Some of the handhelds like Lynx and Virtual Boy are terrible but they don't take much space so I might keep them around just to show off. Nintendo DS, Nintendo Wiiware and Playstation Minis are also in the list of crap systems but again, I'll keep them around for now. Other systems I only have a "best of" set. MS-DOS, ZX Spectrum, C-64 and Amiga for example. No way I'm going to browse through thousands of games, plus they all all their fair share of terrible games that no human should ever play.
rastan Posted December 8, 2015 Author Posted December 8, 2015 Yeah, my memories lean more to the ARCADES and systems I had like A2600, NES, SMS, GENESIS, and other that I may have played... some of the in between systems that people may have had along side another system (like Sega CD or 32X with Genesis) I probably wasn't too into. Certain systems have those system only games which gives them more appeal but I think for the systems I removed they just weren't there for me. I should also note that I just didn't see the need for me to have them in Hyperspin... as far as my personal taste goes I want it to be pretty much ARCADE and CONSOLES that are START & PLAY (the kind of systems that everyone most likely remembers and will enjoy VS the systems that cater more to a specific crowd... like the more obscure systems) Game Boy Advance does have some good games... the MARIO BROS.. that is part of one of the MARIO games is almost better than the original MARIO BROS. I may setup another FRONT end for the systems I removed from Hyperspin... just trying to keep hyperspin straight forward and spend less time looking at the main wheel and actually playing the games.
rastan Posted December 8, 2015 Author Posted December 8, 2015 Yeah, that is the reality a lot of times.... when you revisit some stuff you remember why they because were forgotten in the first place.
rastan Posted December 8, 2015 Author Posted December 8, 2015 I don't even use my REAL WII anymore so the WII and gamecube stuff got the boot but I could see myself setting them up on another computer/front end just to have but not in my Hyperspin.
rastan Posted December 8, 2015 Author Posted December 8, 2015 Amiga is a core system for me 2500 games from mine and my partners youth some great titles on there like Another world, Elite and Alien Breed. I dropped old monochrome systems like Gamecom and Pokemon mini, Virtual Boy. I'm gonna give CD32 a try.. maybe I'll enjoy using it better in Hyperspin. I tried using the regular Amiga stuff and it was cool when I just had the single disk type games that just booted up... but I started dumping a lot of games on and had stuff that required workbench and then certain stuff wouldn't work with specific RAM/FAST RAM/CHIPSET/OS settings so I just got bored with using it in the hypersin and just started using UAE like I always did outside of any front end. Amiga definitely has great memories for me.... I remember still using BBSES in the late 90s with my C64 and AMIGA... I actually had to painfully download Amiga stuff with my C64 because one of the CHIPS in my Amiga 500 went bad (I forget the name of the chip.. maybe Denise?) so I couldn't use my 14.4 modem on it and had to use the 1670 (1200 baud) on my c64.... and to think I get mad because a few gigs takes a while to download these days LOL
Dreygor Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 I dropped.. -Daphne - Hard drive hog and I never play those games. -All computer systems If I use these I do it outside HyperSpin -All monochrome systems (hand helds, vector, virtual boy, and black and white) For Playstation, Playstation 2, Sony PSP and a couple other iso/disc based systems I went with a best of to conserve disc space. Even at that I still have around 50 systems.

Daphne I'm keeping for Dragon's Lair and Space Ace.... the other games seem to just sit there and I haven't even played them like badlands. I definitely deleted the games like US VS THEM.... just not into seeing how horrible games looked back in the days when we thought seeing computer graphics mixed with real video was cool. The American laser games I like and will be keeping simply because they still have that ARCADE appeal that I like..... even if I don't play them all the time... they're good for when I wanna just have some fun.
rastan Posted December 8, 2015 Author Posted December 8, 2015 I only have one game on PS1 right now.. DIE HARD VIVA LAS VEGAS... I used to like that game when I had a PSX... actually one of the games that got me back into really playing games again. PS2 is the same way... I mostly have it for GTA SAN ANDREAS... with those two.. I'll probably continue to just add stuff that I personally like. with PSP I kinda went overboard and have a bunch of stuff that I haven't even played yet so I will be weeding thru those and removing the stuff that I don't like as well as the stuff that doesn't work.....has anyone got CRAZY TAXI to work?
Metalzoic Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 I think we just had this discussion in another topic, but I deleted everything that wasn't arcade or modern PC. All old consoles, all newer consoles, all handhelds and all their roms/iso's gone. Not even backed up, but completely deleted. And I love this thing far, far more without them. I have crazy Taxi 1 & 2 on mine. PC arcade remakes.
ChrisKant Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 There are some Arcade Remakes of Crazy Taxi? ???
Styphelus Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 There are some Arcade Remakes of Crazy Taxi? ??? There's a PC port - $22.99 on Steam and there's a version of it on Sega Naomi and Dreamcast.
rastan Posted December 8, 2015 Author Posted December 8, 2015 the PSP versions don't seem to work.. I think I have Crazy Taxi for dreamcast.. not sure if it's working but will be checking for the PC versions.

gigapig Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 I really only play the system I had or have nostalgia for and a lot of systems had arcade ports which look better through Mame anyway. So I only really care about Arcade, Atari 2600, Spectrum, C64, Amiga, N64, a few PSX titles and some Wii because it's can look pretty good. So that's around 8 to 10 systems (if you count Sammy & Naomi as Arcade) out of 75 systems. The rest are set up so I can refer back and help out with support.
progets Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 I have several files in C:\HyperSpin\Databases\Main Menu\ and rename them depending on what I want. Main Menu.xml - this is what's used by HS Main Menu.xml.full - this has everything I have setup Main Menu.xml.arcade - these are systems that work well with my cabinet controls Main Menu.xml.USAonly - these are only USA systems Main Menu.xml.retroarch - these are only systems that can be played with RetroArch This way I can quickly get what I want without having to remove anything. You can also make simple batch files to do the renaming and then use the Startup Script program launcher to swap them using a controller while in HyperSpin, a restart of HS isn't required. I would only remove things if storage was and issue and these days large drives are very cheap. I do agree with the other posts that mention most people like what ever they played when they were younger.
