Deadly Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 Verified through DT support. DT Lite is NOT compatible with SPTD 1.84 (SPTD is responsible for creating/using a SCSI VD) Modules that require the use of SCSI VD's will no longer work. If you do upgrade to 8.1 you'll have to wait for DT's ETA of "this fall". *sigh*
skribe Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 They said that a new version of DT Lite which is compatible will be released in the next several weeks. Just FYI. sandman7793 Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 I'm on windows 8.1 and loving it! I can wait. A boy stuck in a mans body
Deadly Posted October 29, 2013 Author Posted October 29, 2013 Just an update - Daemon Tools released a working Windows 8.1 lite version today. HOWEVER be advised my personal install went not so smooth. I removed BOTH DT and SPTD. I then went into the registry and removed everything related to both items. Rebooted. Install the new version, said SPTD was already installed. Once install finished tried adding a SCSI drive - said it needed to install the driver - rebooted. Same story as the other version, no SCSI drive and a popup window saying it needed to be installed. I closed DT, manually installed SPTD 1.84, rebooted and now I am able to add a SCSI VD. The normal DT drive however shows up in my computer as a DT CDROM but within DT itself it only shows the SCSI drive letter. Once an image was mounted to the SCSI then the DTCDROM shows up in DT as well. FYI Using SSF for Saturn - the module is set to look for CDROM 1. I had to remove my DT cdrom leaving only the SCSI VD and then it would work. Either way - no big deal. Happy updating.
nuker43 Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 ugh people use windows 8?! seriously tho windows 7 is so much better especially for an application like hyperspin and gaming in general

Polemicist Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 Can't we just use the pro version of DT and all will be sweet???
sandman7793 Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 ugh people use windows 8?! seriously tho windows 7 is so much better especially for an application like hyperspin and gaming in general Actually not so much! Windows 8 is way faster, smoother, usually easier to set things up(because it will tell you whats missing), you can boot directly to desktop now, app store if you like, did i mention its way faster. Your missing out staying on windows 7. Just my opinion though. Did i mention its faster yet! A boy stuck in a mans body
Polemicist Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 I agree with Sandman on that one. My only gripe was the Metro interface. 8.1 has fixed that so use please for me.
skribe Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 Can't we just use the pro version of DT and all will be sweet??? We COULD yes, but the lite version released this morning now works with 8.1; I just installed it without any troubles. Want to try and get some more immediate help? Trnzaddict Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 Yea but guys what about shelling....I haven't seen any tutorials about shelling on Win8 with no sign of branding. Other than that because it is way after and now we have the desktop back I would not mind putting my cab on it. I am......Machine
Deadly Posted October 29, 2013 Author Posted October 29, 2013 ugh people use windows 8?! seriously tho windows 7 is so much better especially for an application like hyperspin and gaming in general This made me smile. Windows 8.1 boots my cabinet even faster (as in boots up in 10 seconds). Boot to desktop option was added which negates my MetroUI gripe (and millions of other peoples gripes). And your comment about gaming in general - welllllllllll ....... actually any hardcore gamer would want Windows 8 because of the actual performance increase found with DX11. As far as Hyperspin/Hyperlaunch the only downfalls I've experienced since upgrading is all TTX related. ONE freaking game runs like crap. Arcana Hearts 2 - this runs like it's on slow-mo. I put it on Windows 7 and it runs perfect. No matter what corrective settings I use for the Nvidia driver it's slow. After researching it - it's a common issue. But it's one game - not a deal breaker for me. Then having to add compatibility settings for 3 of the TTX games or they crash out. Everything else runs smooth as silk. Is it worth paying money to upgrade for most, I would say no. There's not THAT much performance increase to warrant the expense. But if a person were to be building, they would be foolish not to. But to each their own. If a person loves their Windows 7 that's cool too.
Deadly Posted October 29, 2013 Author Posted October 29, 2013 We COULD yes, but the lite version released this morning now works with 8.1; I just installed it without any troubles. I had tested the pro version and it didn't work. So I looked within the SSF module and: ;------------------------------------------------------------------------ ; Notes: ; Sega Saturn: ; This only works with DTLite, not DTPro ; Make sure your Daemontools Path in HLHQ is correct I hated to see that - but it is what it is. So for full compatibility a person must use DT Lite. (or not use certain emulators)

djvj Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 Just FYI, that note is old and has not been proven wrong in awhile. So if anyone actually owns DT Pro and wants to test it, go right ahead. I added that note back when someone told me the DTPro CLI was slightly different than DT Lite. SO if anyone can add any input to challenge it, please do. Deadly Posted October 30, 2013 Author Posted October 30, 2013 Thanks Djvj. I actually did try the DAEMON Tools Pro 5.4.0.0377 Advanced version. Wouldn't mount an imagine via SSF. But hind sight tells me that it might not have been the issue. IIRC, when you install DT it automatically creates a DT CDROM. Unless I misunderstand how your module works, when I create a SCSI drive - the SCSI drive then becomes CDROM 2 and your module is looking for CDROM 1? (Keep in mind I don't have a physical CDROM attached to my arcade). I didn't realize the default setting of CDROM 1 - so someone else should try the Pro version and see if it works. I'm leaving my setup alone after the BS I went through to get the new version of DT lite to work heh BTW thanks for all your work - it's mind blowing what you've accomplished.
nuker43 Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 Yeah maybe i should take back what i said.. at first windows 8 was horrible.. gabe newell himself said it was a bad platform for gaming but i haven't tried 8.1 yet so i guess i shouldn't say anything until i do!

Yeah but Newell also said developing for the PS3 sucked and then went on stage with Sony during their keynote in 2010 and said the opposite. Guess he only likes things when they line his greedy pockets.

Capa Posted March 24, 2015 Posted March 24, 2015 Can some one help me out here with daemon tools lite. I always get SPTD driver will be installed for this device . This operation requires a system reboot. I reboot and the same thing..
snarfo Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 I find it disappointing that Windows 8 has been out since 2012 and the DT devs haven't updated their code yet. I haven't set up any emulators that require virtual optical drive emulation so hopefully this gets sorted out before I do... HTPC: Gigabyte BRIX Pro w/Intel Iris Pro graphics, Windows 8.1 x64/8gb RAM
