I'd love a portable system that size and quality to run emulation on. If/when the day comes people crack the system to allow that and I can get a used one cheap then I would think about it.

Nintendo goes its own way again, we will have to wait and see if 3rd parties developers support it, that will define if the console/handheld sells well past the initial hype.

I didn't bought a Nintendo system since the N64 but if the Switch is cheap enough, I will definitely consider getting one.

I'm excited for it but waiting to hear what the specs are and the price to see if I want to pick it up or not.

I don't realy see what specs have to do with it.. what sort of specs would turn you off?..

the fact that it's getting a real new Zelda game is almost enough reason to buy it outright.. all it needs is a new Metroid game and I'll be camping.

I suppose I have a softspot for nintendo, eventhough I never owned a GBC, GBA, Wii U or 3ds/2ds I wouldn't call my self a fanboy, yet what I appreciate nintendo for is that they WANT to make consoles that are different, and for that reason I always thought XBOX and PLaystations have always been dull and un imaginative. I guess I have a softspot for creativity and nintendo franchises..

When I watched the trailer it did absolutely nothing for me.  Just seems gimmicky, and cheesy.  Especially all the excitement of just being able to switch around and then all of the sudden you are holding two controllers.  For some reason it just seemed odd to me.  It doesn't even really feel like anything to me, let alone a console.

Imagine a world where everyone did the same..... :yucky: odd, in what way ? what is cheesy ? sure Excitement is prone to hyping and then everyone is dissapointed that it doesn't do the dishes and can't play jump rope,

probably it will be more than that ... 350-400 euros or more. They usually suck at pricing their products ...

plus also for me its in a way sad that Nintendo is using a 2011 game (Skyrim) in their promo for a 2017 console.

Should be $300/€300, aiming at 1080p/60. The latter would hopefully help 3rd party devs to put some games on the system.

Now I'm not the person anymore to buy a console, and Nintendo games are the most attractive part of their systems, non-novelty crap 3rd party games and a very limited amount of 1st party games does make a system unattractive. So I hope for their sake they switch it around this time.

By 3rd party games I don't really mean it has to have CoD/BF1 etc, though it would help. Just hope it'll get a decent install base and a decent games library.

In a way, yes, but it is a way to demonstrate the capabilities of your fresh console with a most beloved game, and as a bonus you could say...skyrim is now a handheld game :P

For Sub-Z any game is a handheld game, that's why he's such a beefcake. Carrying you pc or even arcade whilst gaming does that :P

Cant wait for the next version the Nintendo Lite Switch

I'll buy the switch as it looks like a cool idea and its rumored to have a Tegra core which should be quite powerful.

I personally am very excited for the switch. Nintendo has a long standing reputation that if they do something, they do it right. So the switches capabilities of switching from console mode to mobile look fantastic and I am excited for that. Not sure about the timing to market though. If the switch had been the Wii U, for sure it would have been a huge success. Can't help but feel though now that the nVidia Shield didn't take up some of that market.

In addition I read 6 months ago that the switch will be the most powerful console at launch time by a noticeable margin. How is that possible in a mobile form factor? In order to take the switches mobile experience seriously it would have to be in the 15W to maybe 25W range to give any kind of battery life. The shield pulls about 19 watts of power. However the shield isn't more powerful than a PS4.

I am assuming these increases were compared with the original PS4, not the PS4 pro. With the cpu, a 15 to 30% increase in that form factor is no problem. The PS4 originally only had a 1.6 ghz cpu. The PS4 pro was released with a 2.13 ghz cpu. And there are numerous known mobile cpu's that could compete here. But GPU more powerful by a wide margin?

In order for the Switch's gpu to be more powerful than a PS4 by a noticeable margin, nVidia would have had to almost double performance per watt since the shield was released. We are talking Pascal type performance gain here.

If this is true, the NX will not fall in Nintendo's normal $199 to $249 range at release.

That being said, I am not so sure that is what to expect. Nintendo filed a patent request for a distributed rendering cluster process in December 15. Where multiple devices could be connected via wireless or hard connections and share resources. Since the Wii-U pioneered local game streaming, cluster rendering could be the next step.

So don't be surprised if the Switch's gpu isn't, by itself more powerful than a PS4's. But in a cluster it would beat it easily. Distributed computing has come a long way. When I look at that promo video again and see the teams getting ready and playing in the Splatoon tournament, I can't help but wonder if they aren't eluding to cluster processing.

Looks like the end of Nintendo to me. We already have tablets and smart phones if we want portable games. Why on earth would I buy this?

I was hopping Nintendo would come out with a serious console. Instead they bring out a toy full of gimmicks.

Whether you like the hardware or not is only part of the equation. The #1 most important part of any console, is Killer App.

The XBox had it. It was called Halo. It carried that system for 3 years. Microsoft's decision to bundle Halo with the XBox was the #1 biggest reason the XBox was a success. Without the Killer App, your system is doomed regardless of the hardware.

Just look back through console history and you will see many examples of failed consoles with superior hardware specs. (Dreamcast, Jaguar, etc).

#2 most important must haves for a successful launch, 3rd party support. Nintendo already started they have was it 48 developers?? at work on titles for the system. Nintendo definitely has the Killer App part, their exclusives are the envy of every console maker, and it looks like they got the 3rd party sowed up. Providing unique game experiences is what Nintendo has thrived on.

However I do tend to agree with you, we already have mobile gaming in the form of tablets and phones. iPad's are not even selling well. The Shield was twice as powerful as an XBox 360 when it came out and it barely moved the needle. Course the shield didn't have a single exclusive.

I think what Nintendo is banking on is combining their current console market and their current handheld market together and that will give them the strength to compete.

Finally the 3rd piece of the puzzle, price. If Nintendo can keep Switch in the normal $199 to $249 launch price, provide unique killer gaming experiences, and strong 3rd party support so that people who buy don't have to miss out on other big title launches, they will have a winner. The Wii U suffered from lack of 3rd party support, and it severely showed on the bottom line.

All we can do is wait and see if Nintendo can get all the ducks in a row. Too early to tell that now though. One thing for sure though, I wouldn't base my opinion on the success of the Switch solely on the hardware.

The Switch is Android based? I don't think I heard that, well that makes a lot if sense if true. Nintendo was buying up Android developers about a year ago. Didn't they buy DeNa? Said they were making a push into mobile at the last stock holders meeting. I guess I assumed incorrectly that I might be setting Mario and company my cell phone.

Given Nintendo's popularity of it's franchises, I have no idea really why they want to produce their own console. Given that these days a triple a title costs in excess of $60 million to develop you have to wonder if there is room for 3 major consoles.

Really I think Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo should get together and produce just one console. It would make game development costs much more affordable and they could completely control the entire ecosystem. With the rise of mobile you couldn't cry monopoly. Not when there are literally 2 billion Android and IOS owners out there.

Could you imagine? All your favorite games on one system? Okay I guess I already have that, it's called Hyperspin lol.

Nintendo can not compete with Sony/Microsoft for VR hardware so they are targeting a different part of the market. Also Nintendo is known for the cheapest hardware ( not targeting high end graphics )for their products so you can just forget that Switch will compete graphically with PS4/XboxOne. The only way Nintendo will succeed is the same way they did it with Wii, which was not as strong like the other consoles but kicked ass with its games. The only problem is that now will be much harder to satisfy customers.

Also I think Nintendo is trying to hide the low frame rate while you play on the small screen judging by the fact that they will not release anymore videos regarding the new console.
