Recommended retro controller.

I'm sure I'm not the only one that isn't trying to play super metroid on an xbox controller. Logitech does alright, but after trying almost a dozen controllers I finally found one that's perfect, still in production, and made by Nintendo.

I speak of the Wii Classic Controller. http://www.ubergames.co.za/content/images/thumbs/0000486_wii_classic_controller_white.jpeg

Turns out a company makes a cheap adapter for pc, I got mine for ten bucks. http://www.mayflash.com/Products/PCUSB/PC045.html

Anyway, I figured I'd spread the joy. I just tested it on Street Fighter (SNES) and it's pretty remarkable how close it feels to a super nintendo controller, even though its a little thicker. The adapter/controller are plug and play, and the mayflash adapter wire is long which is good because if you're not going the bluetooth route the wii classic controller wire is offensively short. After all these years using xbox controllers and the like, the controller does feel pretty small in the hands. The right and left bumpers are a little odd, but its worth noting I bought my controller used from gamestop. The X and Y buttons are not concave like on the old super controllers (can't win em all). But, as I said, just tested on Street Fighter II and, more importantly, Mike Tyson's Punch Out (my go-to game to test pads), and its wonderful. I'll probably be using it for a lot more than nintendo emulation.

Anyway, just a heads up.

I have a few of those non licensed controllers. This one feels 100 times better to me. (personally).

The bliss box is amazing and of course having the actual controller for these old systems is ideal. That being said, a quick search on amazon yielded 2 new snes controllers for over 100 bucks. Which, honestly, is worth it to me personally, but production ended on those things last century. The Wii Classic is still in production, cheaper, has more buttons, analogs and a nintendo made d-pad worthy of surviving the first 90 seconds in the ring with Tyson.

I'd like to know what sets of controllers people would get for use with the Bliss Box? I'll most likely find a large quantity of extra money and try to get a decent collection of retro controllers for use with BlissBox just finding reliable clones is about as hard as finding good condition second hand. :(

Secondhand stores and yard sales are usually the best for that, Ebay can be decent.

For new controllers I go for the PS3 ones myself, I like their d-pad the best and they have enough buttons for most systems.

grossly overpriced! thats the price for a new in box and probably factory sealed. go hunt for one at goodwill. 15 bucks max

Nothing beats the real thing. I just recently bought mint condition retro controllers and adapters for almost every system on my wheel. It was worth every penny. No matter how accurate emulation becomes, it will never feel as good without the actual controller.

Gotta ask... How many penny's and what did ya get?

Well said, this is exactly what I have done.

Got all my controllers from game traders. I live in Australia and they will check all stores around the country and get it shipped to the store near me for no additional cost.

I picked up recently all in mint condition

Mega Drive, Master System, NES & SNES controllers 2 of each for $100 for them all. (around $13 each)

I already had my N64 controllers bought elsewhere cost me $10 each also.

For adapters. I picked them up from

https://www.retrousb.com/index.php?cPath=21

Although now it seems their prices have gone way up and are very expensive adapters.

Spent around $350. All official OEM, new/mint condition controllers. I plan on building a cabinet with the ports built in.

Wii (4 controllers) *Already had

Gamecube (4 controllers) *Already had

N64 (4 controllers & 4 replacement joysticks for future)

SNES (2 controllers)

NES (2 controllers)

PS2 (2 controllers)

PS1 (2 controllers)

Dreamcast (2 controllers)

Sega Saturn (2 controllers)

Sega Genesis (2 controllers)

For systems which I can not use the official controllers, I use the Xbox 360 controller.

I has envy. Bear in mind I'm not much of an online shopper. I've never used ebay in my life, and this wii classic adapter is probably my 5th purchase from Amazon, the other four being off brand controllers. The learning never stops with hyperspin!

Gonna throw in a unsolicited plug. A couple years ago, I bought a chip from Raphael Assenet. Wired up four NES controller ports to it so I could plug in my old NES controllers. Since then, he has added tons of adapters to his line. Worth a look: http://www.raphnet.net/

I got some of those a few years ago

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Official-SLS-Fukkokuban-Sega-Saturn-USB-Control-Pad-PC-PS3-VGC-/111302628893?pt=UK_Controllers_Attachments&hash=item19ea27561d

they were about 10$ and from look and feel no difference to the originals. I if you find some cheap grab them.

hope SLS will produce another batch

Most of the time I'm using my xbox360 wireless because its so easy... no cables :)

edit:

found out that SLS also produced the "Sega Play Controllers"

http://segaretro.org/Sega_Logistics_Service

there are some sold on ebay from $11.59 to $16.33 as "Buy It Now"

http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_odkw=sega+usb&_osacat=0&_from=R40&_trksid=p2045573.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0.H0.Xplay+sega+usb&_nkw=play+sega+usb&_sacat=0

if they are the same quality like mine they are really great for Sega Genesis/Saturn and Streetfighter Games.

... the color is horrible

Every once and a while at good will in town I find retro controllers around 3 and 4 bucks.

Same here. I found a brand new Nintendo brand GC controller at an antique store. Asked the guy how much... He said 15 bucks and I said sold.

;)

Thanks,

Ron

How well does that perform on a Cab though?

Ron and trublu you US boys find entire cabs on the side of the road or for $20 in yard sales. :P

LOL... I do have a line on like three cabs for $50.00 each. ;) I have two buddies that want one each... What to do with the third?? Maybe a dedicated Daphne cab??

Thanks,

Ron
