The HyperSpin 2 beta is here!

We’re starting the first public testing phase with Platinum Members to keep the scope manageable while we test the current feature set and begin to add more. In the future, we’ll provide a version for basic members as well.  On behalf of the entire HyperSpin team, we look forward to another exciting adventure with our community.

Parabens, amigo!

Concluir a configuraçao compelta e correta do Hyperspin é uma tarefa bem dificil.

Estou por terminar o meu Hyperspin por aqui tambem. Espero que seja nesse mes de Dezembro.

Serao cerca de 130 sistemas.

Mais uma vez, parabens!

I have 2 setups currently:

1) The MAME setup in my Rally-X cocktail table - it uses the default HS layout with themes for each game and is filtered to show games that use one button (or none).

2) HyperSpin on my HTPC, which is finally nearing completion thanks to a flash of inspiration I had about a month ago. It features a simple, unified theme that I call Pure - you can read more about it here.

Here's what they both look like:

I am loving that there are more and more universal themes steering away from the "Vanilla" hyperspin look.

The only thing that ties them together still is the wheel.. which I am not sure if you can remove?

I was thinking about replacing wheel images with tiny transparent placeholders so you cant see them, then use the top of the theme only to show the system/Item with Left & Right Arrows to show you can still change item..

Might run it through a test and see how it goes.

You can probably do that, I actually think having logos showing makes browsing easier. Let us know and show us your idea here.

@Andyman has a minimalist setup which I like a lot, the simpler, the better. I wonder how it would look like if you add a simple TV border to make videos aspect ratio correct, and leave them in full screen like they are now for 16:9 systems like PSP, Wii and PS3.

Quick example using the MAME Main Menu. Added Artwork1 Layer to the default theme as the arrows that pulse.

image.png.9e9aeb2873a042b57463c711911c773b.png

Changed the MAME Wheel item to just a 10x10 pixel transparent image. (Just MAME as a test which is why you can see the others still)

Not sure if there would be an easy/quick way to script it so all the wheels are just small transparent images. Might have to dust off the old Powershell skills perhaps.

Or I could just do it the other way and keep the wheel but remove the title images at the top... Doubling up with the same if not similar images on the one screen just seems like overkill.

Nice thread @Aorin!

I am reviewing my setup, as I want to improve it and change it up a little bit.

Until now I had the unified theme for both main and system levels with fade out wheels, but seeing @Andyman "Pure" project, I liked how the fixed bottom horizontal wheel works with reflections, so I wanted to see how both concepts work together.

I am now doing some tests (not live, but in Photoshop), on how this would work.
Let me know what do you guys think (maybe it is a little bit crowded? I am missing the special art top and bottom bars in here as well, so the system big logo could go away if added):

Nice very nice @Aorin, I like how simple it is and how all the media look standard, very organized. I want something like that.

Also, @bungles is showing a nice theme there.

I want to contribute, I like how my HS looks like but  maybe I have a few wheels missing on the PS2, PSP, wii and Dreamcast systems. The rest is complete.

I will be back :)

Great work @Bungles, your setup is really fun to watch with the animated chars and such.

@Kondorito, your theme concept looks amazing, I would just increase the video frame size a little, maybe with a smaller logo,  this is because I usually play Hyperspin on a TV far from the screen.

Amazing creations!

@Aorin, by any chance do you have the source file of the stripped grey background you use in the wheels section of your themes?

I would like to mimic that but as an horizontal bottom wheel line.

EDIT: Thank you for the file :)

I gave it a shot and did some modifications; still not 100% happy with it.
I think I am struggling in my mind to balance the amount of content/information vs. the cleanness/positioning of all the stuff. Meh... Time will tell.

I was looking for a universal theme last night, but I only found the old ones on the media section here. Does anyone have any universal theme to be shared like the one on the first video?

thanks

@Kondorito, I've uploaded the template for you, let me know if it's of any use.

@badboo,  I did not upload my current themes set, as I only have few systems and focused on the PSX buttons, but I can upload what I have here if you want them. I can also provide the template in case there are other systems you may have and won't have themes for.

The fade screens are one of the most creative spaces we have, they can be as random as anything and it's managed by RocketLauncher, the backbone of our frontends, I'been gathering pictures from Google, mainly from https://commons.m.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:Evan-Amos, I wanted to use fades to display all kinds of gaming-related pictures, from a simple console set to accessories, boards, different console/gamepad models, and so on.

Let me know if you'd like me to upload them.

I just updated the original post with screenshots.

@Kondorito I think it looks pretty nice.

The only thing that might improve it is if you fade/transition the Background layer over the Wheel Background and then run the Wheel background all the way to the bottom so it feels like a "single layer".

Amazing and professional look @Kondorito, I hope to see a unified theme set with that aesthetic for other systems too so people can download and use them.

I don't think it's crowded at all and it's easily one of the best composition for a theme I ever saw, still I think the video preview should be bigger and maybe decrease the game box and cart size just a little.

You could make a little more room decreasing the text size and positioning it further down just a little.

PS: People wants bigger video previews, in my case, using your themes far from TV, that would look much better.

Thanks :)

My idea is to make it simple yet filled with content.
This is a mock-up I just did for the SNES:

@Aorin yes please, that would be great. I am interested in universal themes,  like the one on your video (if you have more universal themes, would be great too).

All this time I have been using system themes on the main menu and my HS looked overwhelmed, therefore I prefer a solid and universal theme now.

Also I noticed that you have the magazines included on the main menu, in my case I have them on the hyperpause; and all the fades and hyperpause media are from this guy named retrohumanoid.

Therefore I would like to share my setup here, so you guys can see and give me any feedback.

I like that style @Kondorito

Well I still suck at Photoshop.. so I used my old tools. The transition is not that great and you can still see the edges of the overlay but hopefully you get the idea of what I meant.
