The HyperSpin 2 early access beta is here!

We’re starting the first public testing phase with Platinum Members to keep the scope manageable while we test the current feature set and begin to add more. In the future, we’ll provide a version for basic members as well.  On behalf of the entire HyperSpin team, we look forward to another exciting adventure with our community.

EDIT 01-May-2015:  Updated to reflect some progress being made by Bill with the v1.4 beta, and update the links.  Still a work in progress though.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

HyperSpin has a few quirks that can trip up new users, so please check the list below before asking for help or posting a bug report. This is not a complete userguide or FAQ, just an overview of the common problems that crop up frequently on the forum, but let me know if I've missed anything obvious and I'll update this post.

1 - [FIXED IN 1.4] Plug in some speakers! HyperSpin will behave erratically if you don't have any speakers connected.

2 - [FIXED IN 1.4] HyperSpin can only be directly controlled with a keyboard or a keyboard encoder (such as an I-PAC or X-Arcade) so make sure the joystick, spinner and trackball controls in HyperHQ are disabled. If using a joypad, Xin-Mo joystick etc. you need to use a keymapper such as Xpadder or JoyToKey (Joy2Key) to convert your joystick & button inputs to keypresses, or use ghutch92's startup script:

http://www.hyperspin-fe.com/topic/2069-hyperspin-startup-script/

3 - Make sure all your systems and roms follow the standard HyperSpin naming conventions and you are using valid, up to date databases. If not, your systems won't show up in HyperLaunch and your games won't match up with the themes, videos and artwork. Check HyperList for details:

http://hyperlist.hyperspin-fe.com/

4 - If you use the Roms Only wheel filter in HyperHQ, make sure you have set the emulator path and extensions correctly or it won't show anything.

5 - [FIXED IN 1.4] Game preview videos don't work in HyperSpin with Intel HD graphics or ArcadeVGA cards unless you disable Flash hardware acceleration.  Discussion and details on how to fix it in Windows 7 and 8 can be found somewhere in this long thread:

http://www.hyperspin-fe.com/topic/861-hyperspin-intel-hd4000-no-videos/

6 - [FIXED IN 1.4] Horizontal wheel scrolling doesn't work properly. If you hold your joystick in one direction, the wheel moves in the opposite direction.

7 - Leaving Hyperspin running idle for an extended period of time will cause it to freeze indefinitely until it is closed then relaunched. Seems to happen with both FLV and MP4 videos, and themes with particle effects.

If you still have a problem and can't find an existing thread about it, try to determine whether the fault lies in the emulator, HyperSpin or HyperLaunch and post in the appropriate forum section. Make sure HyperLaunch is kept up to date via GIT and read Ron's HyperNoobie guide before posting:

Nice list. Perhaps you could also add that leaving Hyperspin running idle for an extended period of time will cause it to freeze indefinitely until it is closed then relaunched.

Only if you are using flash videos. Seems fine with mp4s.

Someone told me this a while back, and it freezes regardless. I use all .mp4s, and about after 5-8 hours it freezes.

If Hyperspin freezes over time.... That would indicate some type of memory leakage or that the OS flipping into screen saver mode does something tripy... Should test that out to see if it can be fixed... I'd like to get my cab running to the point where I can leave it on for 5 hours straight so guests can play with it without any issues at all.... If I'm entertaining, I don't want to be doing support at the same time to get it working again for them.

How can we identify themes with Particle Effects?  Hyperspin is pretty amazing and wish I could use it as my default Frontend, but having a known memory leak, for years and not being able to fix it, that seems pretty silly.  Not looking to rustle anyone's jimmy but I can leave Mala running indefinitely, come in, hit a key to wipe off the screen saver and start playing.. Why don't we make that a goal.  I like showing off my setup with Hyperspin and when I know people are coming to visit, I try and set it up, because lets face it, its really cool. I just want to be able to leave it on 24/7 and not come down to play and see the black screen or the ! is that really so much to ask?

MAybe the wrong place but are the follow bugs fixed with this version

Alpha gets a delay. I'd like to see a delay adjustment, I'd prefer 2 sec before the wheel art fades away. I don't want mine to always display and in its current state the alpha fades near immediately with is kind of frantic

For systems with fewer then 24 games like the jaguar, when you press left or right to find a letter, the letters don't appear unless ur xml has at least 24 games I believe

Just a note for point 4. There is still a bug in "Roms Only" even if you have set the path and extension. But only if the games are in their own folder.

For example: In my setup all cd based systems are uncompressed. Sega Dreamcast images are not self contained, they contain other files like "track01.wav", "track02.raw". Most games have these and they are all named the same! So each game must be in it's own folder.

Everything launches and navigation is fine but for all my other systems I use the "Roms Only" option and now for Dreamcast I have to use "Wheels Only". This has other implications, like remembering to not sync the wheels again. Not a huge bug but I would still love for this to be fixed someday.

A really annoying bug in HS with Groovymame that prevents it from starting if the number of video modes available in the system exceeds a certain amount (80-100). For me and a lot of other people out there with real arcade monitors, Groovymame is the way to go and not being able to use all video modes is really frustrating. Would be great if this could be fixed.

Groovymame? What's Groovy Mame?

Ah cool. So you can run in true signal low/OG resolution.

I actually did follow the link earlier but saw "Eisusdemmodi" and assumed I was on a foreign language site so I didn't read any further.

Oops

As you can see, if you own a real arcade monitor and want an experience as close to the real thing as posible, then Groovymame is the way to go.

Lamentably, Hyperspin has a bug that doesn't allow you to have more than 80-100 video modes without crashing.

No. It's an issue with the custom graphic card driver (crt.emudriver). You can maybe limit the number of available resolutions, but then there will be a lot of games that won't be able to use their native resolutions.... :scratch_one-s_head:

I really wouldn't recommend Hyperspin for GroovyMAME setups in general. Anyone using GroovyMAME is fairly serious about the quality of the emulation they're running, and we've seen many reports that Hyperspin adds input lag and interferes with the behavior of processes it runs.

For a GroovyMAME setup, I wouldn't touch anything other than Attract Mode, Big Blue, and maybe Mala.

Or Gameex Evolution...

I'm still looking here in the support forums something similar I haven't faced yet, so far.

Hyperspin doesn't open, it quickly flashes black and then, nothing.

Log file reads "Joysticks not detected", but the xbox controller is there connected and it works in other games.

OS is Windows 8.1

Edit: I solved that, it was some weird config under the settings folder, I cleaned it up and it works now without problems.
