volumetric Posted August 4, 2014 Posted August 4, 2014 I can't imagine anything in the ROM changed as the games are 15 years old+ Roms get redumped all the time, do an audit in mame and see how many times the words (NEEDS REDUMP) come up. such as capcom games now require a file called qsound This had been the case since at least 153, same with the namco bios files.
gigapig Posted August 4, 2014 Posted August 4, 2014 Relic, I've done the same thing for years, point the new torrent at the old. This time I chose the clear out because the Roms folder had 2-3 gigs of extra Roms. I'll check some Capcom games for errors. And why should Mamewah be different to any other versions, shouldn't they be able to play the same games?
jimmyuk86 Posted August 4, 2014 Posted August 4, 2014 Zerojay, this piece of input is being a provocative dick. I'm gonna start handing out temporary bans for you and anyone else that carries on like this, it's just not helpful and it just leads to pointless arguments on the forums. +1 on that. The word "bitching" and "sir" grouped within your sentences is provocatively negative and uncalled for. Relic's post was intended for a discussion about the matter at hand and perhaps for people to learn about the subject as the posts progressed. Not for negative comments. Someone on here should have the power to start removing posts if this continues.
gigapig Posted August 4, 2014 Posted August 4, 2014 Wasn't zerojay bitchin and whining about someone bitchin and whining? In any case none of it is required.
eezetee Posted August 4, 2014 Posted August 4, 2014 relic, I found if I dump qsound.bin and some of the random other files required that I wouldn't have to add them to each zip. Also, the command line MAME tells me exactly what file is missing whereas the GUI version just flashes on screen then goes away.
relic Posted August 4, 2014 Author Posted August 4, 2014 so i have a new plan im gonna make a site for listing all teh parents of mame Me: 1 section for duplicates Me: and 1 for other Me: plus also include otehr resources such as consoles etc etc Me: can be any game listing or any type Me: most likely i will be a forum site Me: im gonna call it rom fix ground Me: or rom source fix here is what ive done so far sure could use help to tidy it up a bit http://romsourcefix.weebly.com/blog/content-source#/ 100%
zerojay Posted August 4, 2014 Posted August 4, 2014 Everything you need to know about what ROMs are required for a game is an audit away. As said earlier, you can use the command line or if you use something like MAMEUIFX, you can get that same info in GUI form.
Polemicist Posted August 4, 2014 Posted August 4, 2014 Hmmm. I delete folder. I download new ROM's and new CHD's. Sometimes I get lazy and point torrent at old folder and just update. I download new MameUIFX from Jumpstile. I play games. I wait for Brolly to make new XML. I play more games while I wait. I find high score glitch with Jumpstile build. I wait for new version. I play more games. Life is good. Long live Mame.
johnodon Posted August 4, 2014 Posted August 4, 2014 Sometimes I get lazy and point torrent at old folder and just update. Hmmmm...I never even considered doing this. Does it work? What are the ill effects? "There are some who call me.......Tim."

Polemicist Posted August 4, 2014 Posted August 4, 2014 Hmmmm...I never even considered doing this. Does it work? What are the ill effects? Yes it works unless they have done a sucky version like they did ages ago that required some weird patch then delete and download is best option. You can end up with a few extra ROM's due to renaming and stuff but that's about it. I did a delete for 153 cause I was changing hard drives but for 154 I just pointed and updated. Worked perfect as usual. I also have a folder that has the CHD files and the ROM's in it so I just name a few folders in the root to match what I've downloaded so I know what version I have. Then I leave it to seed until the next version comes out.

"There are some who call me.......Tim."
zerojay Posted August 4, 2014 Posted August 4, 2014 Yeah, of course they do. They have to know whether what chunks you've downloaded are good, right?
brolly Posted August 4, 2014 Posted August 4, 2014 There's no reason to delete your old folder, just point the new set to the old one and let your torrent client hash it. The only problem with doing this is that you'll end up with a bunch of surpluss roms, but running TorrentCheck on it afterwards will clean that up. You can also use cmp for that of course, but if you are downloading the full set over instead of the update pack I'm guessing you aren't comfortable using it.
Agrajag Posted August 5, 2014 Posted August 5, 2014 Updating is very easy with ROMVault, by the way. You just have to chuck the ROMs and DATs into their respective folders then load ROMVault and click the icons down the left hand side in turn and it does all the hard work for you. There's a video tutorial on the website. http://www.romvault.com Still worth learning how to use clrmamepro though, as it can deal with 7zipped ROMs. Sent from my phone using Tapatalk, probably while at work...
