I found a work around. I changed the Stella librettodll.cgf to keys that suited me but could not change the enter,select or control key so left them and created a hyperlaunch ahk system profile that swapped

ctrl::b

1::enter

5::rshift

Ran the game and smiled when it worked. I cannot explain why it won't allow the changes but I hope this assists others.

Now does anyone know if you can use atari paddles with a stella adapter with RA?

I've read that RA doesn't support paddles ? so I retried stella. That looks nowhere near as good as RA with crt filter?. Looks like RA wins for now.

I was going to try it with my spinner today :( is there anything you can add to Stella? I haven't checked if it has it own filters or if Sweet FX works.

although a pain you could set Stella as an alternative emulator for paddle games.

I was going to email the stella developer and ask if he would add these shaders. It's a real shame that stella adapters won't work(not tried my mouse/spinners yet) with RA the look is perfect but much less people friendly ;/)

Just started using retroarch. I have to say that I am really impressed with it. It has a ton of great features. The 3rd party shaders are gorgeous. I was able to tweak the CRT Royale shader to give it authentic scanlines and crt glow. I have not yet set it up to use with Hyperspin. I love that the interface can be completely controlled and changed via a controller. When I start me new rebuild it will be my main source of emulators.

Yeah, I started setting it up mostly just to appease my OCD, never intending to really use it. Now I want to use it for every system I can. Let me know if I can help in any way. Once you get the gist, its really not difficult at all.

Bump for explanation on how to find required bios files and supported file extensions per core within RetroArch.

If you load a core from RGUI and go to core information it will list the supported extensions for that core. For required bios files, in core information it will list them under firmware or in the notes.

I am getting this error with all my systems. It looks like it is calling for some sort of bezel support, but I do not use bezels or have ever set them up. Anyone run into this issue?

You normally get those if your system is not up to date.

Do you have GIT setup?

Great Tuturial... :)

Is there already a new AHK or a changed one with some of the new systems like PSP, Saturn and....? The latest on the git is v2.1.7. Hope that the final Retroarch 1.1 comes out soon. Cause Retroarch is really awesome :) and and has great Shaders like CRT Royal where the games of the past look also on big TVs like the originals from the past... At the Moment Im using Retroarch more then Hyperspin but this would change when a new AHK is available... Its the best Multi Emulator for HTPCs and big TVs at the moment.

Thanks for the tutorial! it works mostly well for me in setting up retroarch, but i cannot get HS to play nice with it.

I setup each core individually in HLHQ as stated. renamed the core cfg file to the corresponding systemname *ie vbnext cfg file renamed to Nintendo Game Boy Advance) but as soon as i launch a vba game from H S the cfg file looks to overwritten with different settings...

for example:

I setup RA vba core and checked that the Nintendo Game Boy Advance cfg file has the correct settings. then, i open a game through HS, things look different.

then I quit HS and load that config directly through RA and gone are the original settings and it all looks like it did through HS? gone is the overlay and shaders and the viewport and some paths changed.

what did i do wrong?

Cybersnuff: Try Austin's Module until DJVJ comes out with the official one. Check it out here: http://www.hyperlaunch.net/forum/showthread.php?251-RetroArch-Module&highlight=austin&p=2764#post2764

JaronSenna: Try turning off "save config on exit" in the RetroArch gui.

What I would do after that:

Move/Delete all configs to simplify things

Open RetroArch.exe, load vba core, change all settings to my liking, manually save the config.

Open configs folder and instead of making a copy, just rename the config as stated above so hyperlaunch will recognize it, leaving me with just the one config in the folder, the one called Nintendo Game Boy Advance.cfg. Launch through hyperlaunch and enjoyed saved settings. (Make folder just for copies of my finished configs, its a little tedious but worth in the end).

If this doesn't work, hit me back and we'll try to figure something else out.

Thanks, I will give that a try and report back :-)

Update: Gave it a quick test and that seems to work mostly fine. However, when I initially setup retroarch (no core), and manually save the config, it saves a file in the config directory (since I set that up as the path to save the configs). I copied the retroarch_<timestamp>.cfg file from the config directory to the retroarch main dir (where retroarch.exe sits) and renamed it retroarch.cfg. That way the "no core" config of retroarch is also loaded correctly next time.

I wonder, is it possible to have two sets of controls for the same player? I would like to setup the 360 controller (as I have now in RA), as well as the joystick and buttons on the control panel of my cab. That way I can choose which set to use when I play a game: fight games with the stick and buttons, but a platformer with a controller?

At the moment I have only found a way to setup the "retropad" as input option and do "bind all" to setup the wireless 360 controller.

Update: I learned that it is not possible to have multiple bindings for the same key in 1 configuration. However, it is of course possible to make two different configs for the same core, one for the CP, one for the controller. What might be possible is to setup RA with keyboard bindings (RetroKeyboard) and use a xpadder profile for each game to match that RA setup. I am in the process of getting confused about setting up the xpadder profiles, so I will give it a go when I understand how xpadder works with HS, HL and the emus. Using xpadder to map gamepad inputs to keypressed, means no support for analog sticks obviously

Question for you guys, when I start Sega CD with retroarch, it starts me at the bios screen and says "Press Start Button". I press start, and have to select CD-Rom to start the games. Is there anyway to get retroarch to automatically load the disc?

Posted

Sorry, but I'm not sure. I don't think so. I always boot to the bios title screen as well. You may check "core" options or try using a different core, they have two if I recall that can run CD.

When I start the retroarch.exe and open cores, no systems are listed although I have them in the "cores" folder. All the extensions to the cores are .so ie "hatari_libretro.so". What am I doing wrong? Thanks

Core files on PC have the .dll extension, so if I had to guess, which I do, I'd say you downloaded a version of retroarch not meant for Windows. Where did you download? Make sure you download the Windows version of retroarch.

Very n00bish question but I'm either blind or it hasn't been asked before:

How do I disable the intormation pop-up window from appearing?

From HLHQ I disabled the mouse and everything else but the pop-up keeps showing briefly before a game loads.

HyperSpin is the OCD curse we all love to love
