I am getting 4 tattoos soo, 2 full sleeves with the 7 sins on one arm in pictures and the 7 virtues on the other. on my chest i will have the text Fallen Angel. i need that translated to latin. but correct not google translate crap. and not fallen angel as reference to lucifer, but in context in which I want to use it is as an angel who purposefully fell, of his own volition. Imagine an angel cutting their own wings off in order to leave heaven.

to much different ones on google the one is saying this the other that

words i found:

Angelus lapsus

Angelus casus. Or Casus angelus.

Angelus cadus

Cado angelus

Angelus ruatus

you see my concern....

which one is correct as in the meaning i stated above. thanks guys

I studied latin but i really suck (basically i can translate only caesar lol)

Honestly all phrases sounds really bad in italian :P

I would avoid lapsus, it is mostly used as "unintentional error"

Also "casus" is often used as "motivation". See "casus belli"

"Lucifero", indeed, has a meaning in latin, It means "bringer of light" (LUX=light, FERO=to bring), it also was the name of the "morning star" (planet venus). For christianity lucifer fell due to envy but milton "in paradise lost" put these words in lucifer's mouth: "Here at least

we shall be free; the Almighty hath not built

Here for his envy, will not drive us hence:

Here we may reign secure, and in my choice

to reign is worth ambition though in Hell:

Better to reign in Hell, than serve in Heaven" .

That reclaim lucifer's own will to "fall".

"lucifer" with "Better to reign in Hell, than serve in Heaven" may be cool. The only problem is someone will see it as a satanic tatoo lol.

Make sure you get the damn translation right, it won't be easier to correct it after it's done :)

Sounds like someone had a bad experience :D

Hope you won't regret it. That stuff is permanent. Might look cool now but it won't look so cool when you reach 50. Plus it might hinder future job opportunities, potential friendships and future female companions (a lot of women don't like tatoos).

My wife had one about 4cmx4cm. Decided to get it removed. Took 9 treatments, $1200 and almost 2 years. Still has some faint traces and a bit of a scar. Removal is not easy like what you see on tv.

I love tattoos.

Find a latin professor at the nearest university. You could probably go through the school's directory to get his email and ask him. Hell, ask 5 professors to verify the translation.

Yeah. Heard of tons of orientals laughing at stupid Americans for the kanji tatoos with inspirational words. To your face- oh yeah that's what it means, then tee hee hee as they walk away. My wife got one on her wrist, but it was ok because four of her friends got the same one. At the nail salon- rapid fire Vietnamese ending in "crab claw"; oh no we're not talking about you, then giggles around the room. People are cruel. Hope for the best or maybe choose one in a dead language.

Oh and I was just picking someone up at the nail salon.....No seriously guys.....

By the way dark13, good reply.

The whole religious thing is for a reason. i selected all tattoos for a good reason. and it took me a few years to select them. As for job opportunities, no prob on that part, for woman. the type of girls i date love that stuff. and i do it for myself not for the women. the tats have a meaning for me. not just a random thing, that's why i need a good translation

That's an idea. i was hoping we had someone here. let's see what it brings, i'll be triple checking it anyway though by different people

The main problem with latin is you actually don't learn it in the same way you learn normal languages (latin is a "dead" language) .You learn to translate from latin, you don't learn to write nor speak latin. Vatican still use latin as "official" language but it's a bit simpler than "real" latin (making grammar analysis of a latin conmplex phrase is a freaking nightmare), and these days english is probably most used :P Moreover when studying latin you usually translate cicero, caesar, etc, writer from ancient rome, and they were pagan :P St. Augustine wrote in latin, probably he used the word "fallen angel" somewhere. Asking this stuff to a roman catholic priest may helps too, they study (and often speak) latin.

You know, people ALWAYS have a strong position on religion. God exists or do not exists... no one say "oh, yeah he/she/it exist but i don't give a damn about it" or "he/she/it do not exists but being part of a religious community make people feel better"...

Yup, I don't believe in any of it, but I do see the positives in the community building it does, which is a need many people have and is rooted in being a human being. Too bad it has a tendency to put different groups against each other. It has its pros and cons.

If I had a choice between all religion or no religion at all, I'd pick the latter in a heartbeat. I think belief/faith on its own isn't harmful in any way, organized religion on the other hand...

In the end nothing and nobody is perfect. We're all hypocritical and judgemental in some way. It's just human nature, we need it to let the world make sense and to be able to survive in it.

Though I couldn't imagine a world without the cultures that formed along with religion and the architecture, art, music, etc.

btw, it was in no way my intend to make this thread about religion, my comment was 100% intended as a joke.

A good rule of thumb is to avoid any symbols or phrases which you can't read yourself. "and this is a chinese symbol it means courage" "no man, it means soup, why do you think the chinese people behind the counter keep pointing and laughing at you? "

religion and politics are good topics for forums... provided your dealing with open minded civilized people who are not easily offended and know how to discuss ideas. .
