AxelTerizaki Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 I tried it against my Darkwater Saturn set and it worked great. Thanks EMB I will play with it some more once I get back from work.
dompau Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 There is a status checkbox in the view. Its under the MAMEList show/hide. Is that the one you are looking for? I don't know what you're talking about. Maybe it's in another tool, I'm only using the Renamer for now. And in the renamer, when you added the checkbox to "show columns", you didn't include the "status" column, and that column isn't necessary (for me at least). it just takes space. When I rename I can hide "CRC matched" , that I can be 99% sure they're correct, then I'm left with a list that I have to go through line by line anyway, but knowing if it's guessed or manual isn't needed for me, and if it's unmatched, I have an empty "original filename". So yeah I'd really like to hide that "Status" column.
emb Posted October 23, 2013 Author Posted October 23, 2013 EMB first of all, congrats with the great work you did in the renewed hyperspin tool! It makes managing hyperspin a lot easier and now for almost every system which was lacking in the first version... Now, having pampered you and all i'm gonna go to my question: The tool is really easy to use but I still would like to see a tutorial to know that i'm doing what i think i'm doing! Does a tutorial exist for the new version or are you waiting for the end of the beta? Thanks. There is a video tutorial on youtube for filtering lists. Click my signature for more info. I will eventually make a video tutorial for renaming ROMs. Sent from my SPH-L720 using Tapatalk 2 %5BSIGPIC%5D[/sIGPIC] Download HyperSpin Tools and check out my MAME cabinet
Faahrev Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 Hi Don, Just studied the thread and tried the rom-renamer (4.3.19) on a incorrect-named Supergrafx set (bin, iso, cue) I have. No CRC and MOVE instead of copy used. Tempfile on C and files on D. Rename for 400 files done in 2 seconds. Great resolution on the fuzzy-part now. Just for the fun of it I tried it on the media folders too and it worked just as good. After moving the names (Multiple times - see later) I ended up with all renamed files neatly filed in subfolders with the correct romname. After that I used my tool to correct the cue-files internally. http://www.hyperspin-fe.com/forum/showthread.php?29246-Cue-Editor-Creator-%28CEC-for-short%29 Some suggestions: If the renamer 'guessed' the name correct the result was - both iso and cue (both files in one cell on the left, both incorrect files linked on the right) - only the iso (Incorrect cue still on the right without a link) - only the cue (Incorrect iso still on the right without a link) All iso's and cue's sets had identical names. Can you explain this behaviour? Thought: Possibility to 'drag' the other 'missing' part from the right to the left in the same cell to join them. To my knowledge and experience it's not possible now. I pulled it off using the same execution twice. In the second run the program sometimes finds a match between the list-name and the already renamed file (and sometimes to the incorrect file ?) but dragging the incorrect file into that cell overwrites and resolves this. Thought: Wouldn't it be great if there was a possibility to introduce this option for corresponding media files too? In that case the user could drag media folders in the folder window as well and there would be a guessed (or manually linked) result on the left hand side with all information (and option to add or remove it). I hope you understand what I mean.. On Filter Hyperlist: If the .xml lacks some fields (don't know which exactly) but holds the correctly formatted gamename and description, it gives an error. After editing the .xml (with empty fields) it runs OK. Is it supposed to do that? I guess the .xml is handled exclusively. When running another system it has to exit and run again since the browse button is greyed-out. Also changes in the XML (for instance, added games) while running it aren't 'seen'. Again; is it supposed to do that? No biggies because exiting and restarting isn't much bother compared to the time saved thanks again for this wonderfull tooling.. Keep on Spinnin' !
emb Posted October 24, 2013 Author Posted October 24, 2013 Thanks for testing. Also, welcome to the community! In regarding the cue/isos. I don't think I understand what you are saying. Are your cue and iso files not bound together under the tree in a cell? If not, then it is likely that the contents of your cue file are wrong. You have to have a valid cue file to begin with in order to rename them. I had intentions of making a seperate GUI to handle this later in the future for both cue and gdi sets. Regarding the batch renaming of artwork -- it has been on the backburner for a while. It will likely get added in a future release. Regarding the xml file, it does not work because it likely does not contaid valid xml characters. It was likely generated by another third party app which is notoriously known for generating bad xml files. justinwebb Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 Tried it with TOSEC dreamcast USA set and it didnt recognize any of them in the rom renamer. Had the tosec option in the dropdown and had them both extracted and zipped with the proper extension, am I doing something wrong?

MaskedMavel Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 I'm using rename tool to rename a mongrel Sega Saturn set that I found on public bittorrent. Thanks to the new filter, 112 were found automatically. As I'm matching up the rest, a couple things came to mind. 1. I made a quick xml of the Saturn roms folder and ctrl+f search it to find the names of games I cant find, then copying that into the "File:" textbox to find that game, It would be nice if, after erasing the text from the textbox, it would go back to where I was in the list instead of taking me back the start of the list. 2. I was also wondering if it might be possible to somehow save some sort of renaming file. That way it would prevent any accidental loss while going through this process and I could save the finished file so anyone who found the same set wouldnt have to go through the same process. Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but when I select CD Image as the system type, the results just look like the regular systems (second screenshot on the first page of this thread) . I noticed in the third screenshot on the first page that the lists for CD systems has the bin nested beneath each cue file. Thanks.
emb Posted October 26, 2013 Author Posted October 26, 2013 I'll throw it on the backlog and will think about it. Sent from my SPH-L720 using Tapatalk 2 %5BSIGPIC%5D[/sIGPIC] Download HyperSpin Tools and check out my MAME cabinet
emb Posted October 26, 2013 Author Posted October 26, 2013 Anyone having issues? If not, I will mark the next release an official release which should be out sometime later in the week. ...and then I will go into a cave and not be seen on the forums for an indeterminate amount of time. Its a good time for a break . Sent from my SPH-L720 using Tapatalk 2 %5BSIGPIC%5D[/sIGPIC] Download HyperSpin Tools and check out my MAME cabinet

RodentVienna Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 no issues on my side, but any chance we can look into no-intro-dat "parent-clone" support for dat2xml tool? i could give a brief rundown on specs if you tell me theres a chance before youre out (or in) to the cave thanks alex
potts43 Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 No issues but would like to be able to save config that includes windows/tick boxes etc so I can reload everything and continue exactly where I left off. Cheers
emb Posted October 27, 2013 Author Posted October 27, 2013 Those requests have been noted and are on the backlog. emb Posted October 27, 2013 Author Posted October 27, 2013 Does someone have a dreamcast rom using a gdi file? If so, can you pass it through the ROM renamer and verfiy the gdi file properly loads through the emulator without crashing after doing the rename? Also, could you test on both nulldc and demul? Just make a copy and rename the copy in case something is broken. Sent from my SPH-L720 using Tapatalk 2 %5BSIGPIC%5D[/sIGPIC] Download HyperSpin Tools and check out my MAME cabinet

MaskedMavel Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 Sorry if I didnt explain that very well. This is what my results look like: Not sure if its something I'm doing or maybe just because this set it so messed up, but as you can see most games don't have the .bin files nested beneath the .cue files in the list. Should I be renaming the .cue files or will I have to rename both? Thanks
emb Posted October 27, 2013 Author Posted October 27, 2013 The bin files are not nested under the cue files because your cue files are invalid. If you open crime wave.cue you will see that it does not point to crime wave.bin. it might point to some kind of absolute path instead of a relative path. The tool assumes your cue/bin files are functional and intact beforehand. Fixing any cue file requires manual intervention. RodentVienna Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 cool as is and ever looking forward to the next release build; something to play with over the winter period again kind regards Alex
MaskedMavel Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 FILE "C:\DOWNLOADS\UPLOADS\SATURN\ISO\CRIME WAVE.BIN" FILE "D:\GOZILLA\CYBER SPEEDWAY.BIN" BINARY .... Yeah How do sets like this get out there in the first place? So I guess I should rename the .bin files first and then the .cues?
emb Posted October 28, 2013 Author Posted October 28, 2013 Yea, there is a lot of crap out there on the internet. Fix the cue file first (easiest way would be to create a folder, move the cue file into it, move the children into it, and manually update the cue file to point to the new files without the folder names). Otherwise, there might be a third party tool for this. Run the rom renamer once all the cue files are repaired. I am about to do a batch of 90 + zipped GDI dreamcast roms so will let you know the result. I just did one as a test now and it worked fine
