On the issue of metadata could use a scraper catching information ThegamesDB or even the Gamedb of LaunchBox, if possible, because their database is growing increasingly.

And also support the idea of subwheels and better support for joystick.

I think thegamesDB would not be adequate for HS rom sets due to a lot of uncommon games that are in them. It would help but def not get info for everything.

Mobygames would be the best imo.

The LaunchBox database is growing every day. I know because I am one of the moderators who value the arts and information that users are sending.
I think at the moment he is very good and with the help of users Hyperspin he will be even better and the best picture quality, and the various options, such as logos, covers various regions, Covers 3D, etc...

Dust has settled. Enhancement list is likely complete. It's aggregated in the second post

Hyperspin 1.4.16 enhancement request

_________________________________

***3rd party bugs since 1.3***

_________________________________

1. Hyperspeech from buggie man support again. Since adding script folder intro and system names are messed up

________________________________________

***Minor hyperspin Enhancements***

________________________________________

1. full letter jump support for multiple numbers not just one number

2. Add two more later support to themes

3. Hevc video support

4. Ability to display letter jump when wheel has fewer than 24 games

5. Add 3rd and 4th special layer artwork support - layer d and layer e

6. Letter jump in main menu if xml is alphabetized

7. Main menu wheel description/year display

8. Allow for special art c to display custom favorite genre art. Ie when you select a genre you can display special genre art. However when you select favorites, you are unable to have favorite png art as "genre"

9. Control the text that is displayed in the information section of hyperspin- pick and choose year, description, manufacture etc

10. When letting hyperspin sit for a long time in attract mode (hyperspin freezes) can't remember if this got fixed yet

________________________

***controller issues***

________________________

1. fix for the bug that causes the scrolling for player 2 to skip the small pause that you get when you start scrolling. This bug makes it very dificult to scroll only one step using the player 2 controls

2. Multi control per key in hyperhq. It would be great if you could set multiple butttons for the "select" or "enter" button

3. Better joystick control within hyperspin. (Joystick control is irregular- xinput available?)

______________________________________________

***BIG picture hyperspin enhancements***

______________________________________________

1. 3rd wheel layer or more: Select Group (wheel 1) > select System (wheel 2) > select Game (wheel 3). Add an optional 3rd Wheel or more to Hyperspin UI that allows users to group their systems into Arcade, Consoles, Handhelds, PC Games, Pinball, etc

2. Wide screen support for wheel/theme/hyperspin

3. Ability for multiple favorite files and name each one so mom and dad can have there own

4. Ability to scrape info and graphics from mobygames

5. Allow themes to shift so that the wheel art doesn't overlap it at all so wheels have there own real estate

6. Use global genre wheel art and genre background art

7. Global hyperspin/hq settings like for special art, font, themes, etc

8. Universal theme at two levels- one for main menu level, and one for game menu level. This would allow for unified looks across the front-end

9. configurable media paths or a "Use media from xx system" to eliminate the need for symbolic links or duplicating media for derivative systems (ex. MAME media for Cave, CPS)

10. Ability to see game info when you click a assigned button, like Triagle or Y and press "Game Info" option, as I believe not everyone likes to see all that info in a theme.

11.Ability to add "Finished Stamp" to a finished game.like display somehow that the game has been "played"

12. Rate game 5 star system

13. High score display for all systems

_____________________________________

***Hypertheme enhancements***

_____________________________________

1. Swf support and MP4 in hyper theme

2. Theme background image smoothing

3. Ability to theme the genre background also use video on genre wheel

4. Ability to have a 4th and 5th layer within themes so it could hold text etc related info

__________________________________

***Hyper hq enhancements***

__________________________________

1. Ability to control spacing within wheel and speed of fade per wheel

2. Hyper hq Roms only doesn't work

3. Windows 10 hyperhq path field crashes exe

4. Global settings for all wheels

Question, if the next Hyperspin supported widescreen, would Hypertheme support widescreen by default, or would it need to be updated as well?

If applicable, I vote for Hypertheme widescreen support w/ Hyperspin widscreen support.

Yes, they normally run as SWF's with embedded video, this let them display at their best quality in HS, but caused other issues (lag, delays, attract mode issues, sound glitch issues etc...)

MP4 style is running them just like any other theme with no SWF at all, just an MP4 in the videos folder and theme.zip in the themes folder like normal. The video playback wasn't as sharp (still looked good though), but fixed all the issues and performs better.

This update just made it so the MP4 style looks as sharp and good as the SWF style. (but with all the added benefits of MP4 style)

hey metazoic,

thanks for your answer. wasn't aware that hyperspin can play mp4's directly. thought it was still only .flv. however i'm still a bit confused and i thought you could help me out further:

i experimented a bit the last couple of hours by creating a default theme with the following code in the Theme.xml

<Theme>
       <video w="1024" h="768" x="512" y="384" r="0" time=".2" type="none" start="none" forceaspect="false" below="true" />
</Theme>

i tried various setting but my videos doesn't want to fit the 1080p resolution i set hyperspin to. do you need to resize your mp4 videos beforehand to a 1024*768 format (the mp4 videos i use are in 1080p atm)? do you need to configure the Theme.xml in a special way? do you need to have another argument in the theme.xml for video-smoothing to apply? something like this?

 <video> [...] smoothing="true" />

hope you or somebody can help me out.

thanks for reading!

So is this an enhancement that is needed? I started a thread of all things related

no not really. it all falls under widescreen support i guess. i just wasn't aware hyperspin is able to play 1080p mp4's directly; and now that i tried that in my setup, i have a few issues i thought metalzoic could help me with, since he was the one who mentioned direct mp4 playback earlier in this thread.

enhancement request list looks really good btw (hope to see some of those things realised soon). great idea, ninja2bceen. thank you for your work collecting and compiling all the requests!

cheers

tim

forceaspect should be both or something like that.... Is easier to Create the theme in hypertheme... Make the video fill the entire screen and save. Use that theme with your 1080p video. Set Hs to 1080 resolution... Should work.

hypertheme only lets me use .flv for videos tho. am i missing something? sorry it's probably just me being dumb as usual.

EDIT: k it was just me being dumb. force aspect set to "both" fixed the alignment issues. however i don't see any smoothing. is there a parameter that has to be set to activate it?

This is a super job on the list. Those things sugested seem well thought out from a user point of view. Who knows what will happen.

I'm excited and I don't even have a PC to game on!!! May have to dust my build off and fix the hard drive.

Smoothing is automatic in the latest update. There was already a default theme.zip posted by me along with instructions in the Hyperspin Cinematic thread back when I first figured out it could be done.

i looked through the hyperspin cinematic thread but couldn't find a theme.zip. could you maybe share your default theme you use at the moment with me (or just the theme.xml)? just wanted to make sure that my test setup (see previous post) is the same as yours, as smoothing still doesn't seem to apply to my mp4s and your setup seems to work, as you said earlier.

This may help in the mean time. Not sure though

JJB walked me through how to set it up. Pre 1.4.16 and smoothing

Worked on my laptop

did some more testing regarding the new video smoothing. i think might not work right on my machine. here is what i mean:

first here are two screenshots comparing .swf style and .mp4 style using my themes (screenshots were taken directly from hyperspin configured to run at 1920x1080 fullscreeen):

swf:

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/10927471/swfstyle.png

mp4:

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/10927471/mp4style.png

as you can see the the mp4 style is considerable worse looking than the swf method on my system. especially the text looks quite blocky in comparison to the .swf method were it looks clear, smooth and readable.

now the funny thing is, i talked to jamesbaker yesterday and asked him if he could try my themes on his system mp4-style and he said they look absolutely perfect on his rig. so that keeps me wondering if it is my system that is the problem and if there might still be a bug with video smoothing. i can assure you that i use the lastest hyperspin version, so that can't be it.

if anyone might have some idea or input on that, let me know :).

thanks for reading and your time!

cheers

tim

ps.: do you guys think it might be worth opening a new thred on that topic?
