brolly Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 Shh don't even dare mentioning that game, for me it never existed. The version released for XBox Live was actually pretty good though, but then again they just tweaked the original instead of trying to reinvent the wheel. The original Sensi was a great game, but a bit too simplistic and SWOS took it to another level, Playing Amiga SWOS online is actually very addicting. Could never play it with a gamepad though, it must be either a python or a keypad for me.
bandit721 Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 Wow, only 5...tough... 1. Super Mario World (SNES) 2. Battlefield 1942 (PC) 3. Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (N64) 4. Command & Conquer: Red Alert (PC) 5. Uncharted 2 (PS3)

cowbells Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 No way I could pick 5 so I'm going to cheat a little. 1. Super Metroid (SNES) / Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (PSX) - to me these are practically the same game. I've played both to death and are absolutely my favs. I've actually beaten the times on Speed Demo Archives for Super Metroid but never thought to record it. At the time, I had no idea there were competitions for this kind of thing. These days my skills aren't up to snuff anymore and I'm never going to take the time to prove it. I'll always know what my times are 2. Gain Ground / Gunstar Heroes / Streets of Rage 2 (Genesis) - one of my best friends and I would carve out a day and play these 3 games every time we came home from college (while getting massively plastered) 3. Half Life and it's wonderful mods: TFC / Firearms / Counter Strike / DOD - signs of a misspent youth, besides Red Alert and Day of the Tentacle / Sam & Max, these games were practically all I used my computer for (nah, not really; I've always lived on the PC) 4. Basically every RPG on the SNES and PSX but I've always said that FF6 is my fav. That's the one I keep coming back to. I've got a moogle tattoo with another best friend on my ankle. BFF gurl tats, whaddup!? Haha (btw, the best friend is a girl, we actually met because of this game back in 3rd grade and I'm going to be in her wedding this weekend! She's like a sister to me and I owe it all to FF3...er 6) 5. Smash Bros. / Mario Tennis (n64) & NFL Blitz / NBA Jam (Arcade) - epic 4 player games in which I've shamed many many people. My initials spell JAM. Sometimes I wonder if I was put on this earth to play NBA Jam. I have that and Blitz on arcade and I'm still undefeated on Jam. Like, nobody's even come close yet. Can you tell most my youth was in the 90s? I still play games, but these are ingrained in me as part of my childhood. Damn, didn't mention any fighters or shmups. Oh well.

mikekim Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 picking 5 is a hard job... have played so many good games over the years in date order (ascending) Elite (BBC B disc version) one of the first games I really, really, got into, spent countless hours of my youth playing this game. (never managed Elite on the BBC version though.. have done on other versions) Carmageddon (PC) what can I say when this game came out it was epic.. had to patch the blood back in though.. can remember playing this multiplayer with one of my friends using a null modem cable to connect up our PC's. Unreal Tournament (PC) lunchtimes at work were soo much fun.. had pretty much all of the custom mods and maps.. Multiplayer Simpsons VS Southpark was a blast (literally) Super Mario 64 (N64) One of the Genre defining games I keep returning to.. must have completed this over 30 times now.. still looks good after all these years Goldeneye 64 (N64) what do you say about this game... apart from best console multiplayer shooter ever!!
Styphelus Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 1. Baldur's Gate 2 2. Starcraft 2 3. Skyrim 4. Fallout 3 5. Diablo 2 6. Max Payne 3 - I had to mention it. Yes, they are all recent but they are the ones I enjoyed the most to this day. Just for the record, I've been playing since I got my first ZX Spectrum back in 1983. Played a lot of Grand Prix World for DOS as well.

Spawk Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 Great topic. Amazing just to read through some of the "oldies" that actually made peoples top 5. I totally loved playing a lot of them already mentioned... I've loved vertical shooters ever since pumping quarters into 1942, I remember playing Mike Tyson's Punch Out till it was time to go to school the next morning in my youth (I never have beat him!), and have Super Mario'd everything. For an "all-time" top 5 I'm thinkin mostly RPG's and even then it's extremely hard to choose just 5. I am real tempted to include games like Lufia II: Rise of the Sinistrals (SNES). Think of early Final Fantasy's but arguably better! There's no job classes but dungeon's have puzzle like elements, you get a pet, and instead of selling old equip you can feed it to them to lvl them up. Missed by a lot of people for the much loved Chrono Trigger which is real close to making this list too! 1 - Dark Cloud 1 & 2 (PS2) Ok I'm cheating by putting these together but they are the only real action RPG's I ever fell in love with. The game's initial animation and cheesy cut scenes kinda throw people off a bit but if you can get past that, the gameplay is really deep. Infuse gems into weapons to upgrade them, take some photos for invention ideas, play the golf-like spheda, or kick back and do some fishing. And the control's are all very smooth! 2 - Dragon Quest VIII - Journey of the Cursed King (PS2) JRPG awesomeness! Why this game doesn't get the respect it deserves is beyond me. Originally the series started on NES called Dragon Warrior and the fact that they have been perfecting their craft for years really shows here. Alchemy, mounts, it's all here. And again the controls are all very smooth. All JRPG lovers need to play this! 3 - Shadow Hearts (PS2) There are actually 3 of these on the PS2 but I have only played the first one or the others might be here as well cause wow! What a great game, albeit not as long as some of the other games here. Shadow Hearts is JRPG but adds a battle ring with timing elements much like the golf swing meter on older titles. Just a little more intricate. Hit the sweet spots on the ring and do more damage in battle, mess it up and do less damage! The game is rated M so it's setting and mood are very dark unlike most cartoony RPGs. I own the other 2 games and have sworn to play them someday... There's probably gold in there! 4 - Test Drive Unlimited (PC?) Custom radio stations probably make the PC version of this superior although I first played it on PS2. All of the Need For Speeds could probably make this list too. But TDU really took everything the street racing genre had up to that point and stuffed it all onto a pretty awesome map Hawaii. Seriously it's huge. Buy cars, clothing, homes with different sized garages... fantastic stuff! 5 - Tony Hawk - ALL (PC) There's not much to say here. If you like skateboarding and you like videogames, there is nothing better! THPS2 is still my favorite one. Wow is that it? Not a single Final Fantasy? What about the GTA's? Demolition Racer! OH, how about Spider-Man 2! Puzzle Quest 2 <--RPG match 3 game!!!... I could on for hours!
