dark13 Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 As motherboard i would use an asus Maximus VI Hero as thk said. It's a good overclokers, It does not hve "extreme" oc option bundled with ROG motherboards but believe me, you'll never use it, and a ROG in a "pro" target price is really nice stuff Asrock... well, good price/performance ratio but they has some stability issue while overclocking and it's average lifetime is a bit on the thin line. Again, 16gb is simply too much. 32gb is REALLY good for rendering softwares (maya, c4d, 3dmax, etc). The only reason to get 16gb on a gaming rig right now is ddr3's price. Maybe... buy faster sticks, 2000+ hmz helps while overclocking Corsair gs800w is a good psu. Not a "real champion" but it's good. I would avoid cheap psu unless you don't know the "real" producer (even enermax buys products and re-brand them). For example lc-power 1000w legion was a really good psu while lower wattage psu in the same line were not that good. One of the best builder is SEASONIC. Find a seasonic in italy is really hard, just as finding a XFX or EVGA motherboard 4770k is 30% faster than a 4670k BUT emulators will not use its extra power (it's faster only while multithreading on 8 thread). Usually it does reach faster frequencies in overclock BUT 200hmz does not worth 100 euro at all If you really want performance on OS's hard disk.. well, buy 2x128gb ssd and put them in raid0 on chipset fakeraid Its performance are almost comparable to ocz's revodrives . The only problem is... well if one ssd get trashed you lost everything you had on raid0 array -.- ps. my "dream machine" involves an intel 4960x Automatizing infopanels creation from .csv files for HTPCs themes (look at infopanel tutorial.zip on the ftp in dark13 folder) PNGs to SWFs automatized flash scripts Hyperspin Wheelset automatized template (photoshop's variables + batch) Aeon nox 4.13 W.I.P. hyperspin skin

But yes, I'd love a 4960k, but I deem the 4770k good enough for serious graphics stuff (no video editing for me) I go for the 4770k because it looks like the best affordable future proof option for me, but is it really just throwing away €100? ..........................back with a vengeance........................

Approximate cost of what they used (AUS $) case + psu = $110 motherboard = $100 cpu = $350 ram = $440 gpu = $100 hard drive = $100 Optical = $25 Other parts = $125 (cooling system, etc) total = $1350 for you to build the same thing. Priced using http://www.staticice.com.au/ This also looks weak for a gaming pc. The video card is considered entry level and you can't really overclock this thing even if you wanted too. If you want a gaming pc, I would get 2x4 gb ram (8gb) for $90 get an i5-4670k for $280 and put the extra $400 (from saving on ram and cpu swap) into a better motherboard, psu, and graphics card. Relic you'll find this site useful if you decide to build your own. http://au.pcpartpicker.com/ How to Install HyperSpin and more RocketLauncher HyperSpin Startup Script
majorspawn Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 Hey Relic. Can you do that in Aus, buy the parts from somewhere then take them somewhere else to have it built? If your going to run any emulation go with nVidia, as I've said before Taito Type X doesn't work so well with AMD. Dark13 is right about the Geforce 760 and a good overclocker if your into that. I've just bought an MSI 770 Lighting, it's awesome. I've never bought a PC off the shelf, always built my own, but if your not confident, get one pre built. Go to the one place which is local to you and get them to price-match after you do your homework. Check staticice.com.au for best prices. That way your getting everything from one store. Pay them the $50 or so to have it built for you and tested, if something breaks or your pc is glitchy u then can take it back to them to troubleshoot and wipe your hands clean. 12 moths warranty standard a walk away. Worst thing u can end up with is a pc made up of parts all over the interstate which you paid shipping for to begin with and then have to ship it back for warranty. majorspawns 2 cents. dark13 Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 Hi guys what you think of this deal i thought it was a better deal then the previous one http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/INTEL-4TH-GEN-QUAD-CORE-i7-4770-32GB-RAM-2TB-GAMING-DESKTOP-COMPUTER-SYSTEM-PC-/151138957542?pt=AU_comp_dekstop&hash=item23309578e6&_uhb=1 What's wrong with this kind of offer: 1- B85M is a "bussiness" oriented chipset. Nothing wrong with it but for gaming you really want a x87 and a "k" cpu to overclock 2- GT 630 4GB GDDR3 is NOT a gaming videocard. It is good for a non-gaming HTPC just to avoid known problems with intel's IGPs but it really sucks for gaming. Basically it's a waste of 3gb vram Many producer does make low-end videocard with huge quantity of vram to attract people but a videocard like that does not really need more than 512mb-1gb max. 3- PSU is not mentioned. For gaming you don't need crazy wattage but you want a good PSU, A good PSU will extend your component's life and will not give any problem. Something in the range of a corsair GS600w (not a terrific one but a fair PSU). 4- You don't need 32gb of ram in gaming, believe me. Most demanding games need something like 6gb so 8gb is good enough. You can go 16gb route considering ddr3's actual price but 32gb is REALLY too much. Also in italy many se-sellers do the same "trick"; good prices made by low-end videocard and chinese PSU... and the "fun" fact is you will notice HOW much the psu sucks when you'll try to add a decent videocard on that rig. Strangely the hard disk is really good. WD's caviar black is probably the best 7200rpm hard disk up to date. Polemicist Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 WD's caviar black is probably the best 7200rpm hard disk up to date. True. And the 64meg cache and 5 year warranty is pretty nice. Plus it comes in 4TB varieties still at that speed.
majorspawn Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 mehh... get the samsung pro series SSDs. I have 2 in raid and I'm getting 1100 MBps/sec constant on the OS drive. Your not going to squeeze super performance out of a non SSD drive, also invest your money in a quality PSU. In a performance pc a cheapo PSU will probably blow on you and take the MB and RAM with it as well. Im using a Thermaltake Truepower 1200W PSU for the last 6 years and it hasn't skipped a beat. There are some quality PSUs out there most cost around the same price, even the cheapy Chinese imports are not really that cheap anyways. Going back to original post you said this "Hi guys I have finally decided to go big and get a pc that runs most modern games" That machine, unless your idea of modern games is Angry Birds or Fez, is not going to cut it. You will get it home and after turning the graphics settings to low to stop the slideshow; you'll be very disappointed. As I've discussed with you before 32gb of Ram is overkill, a waste of money (Money which could be spent on more important aspects of the machine) and only needed for workstations. 8Gb is quite enough. Lets check out this image from the Ebay seller. Lots of big arsed numbers to entice the customer. The i7 CPU is overkill again for gaming, your better off saving $150?? and getting a i5 4670k 3.40GHz. Mine is overclocked to 4.2GHz, but you don't have to overclock. As we've looked at the rest now the 5GB graphics. I may be wrong but I've not heard of a 5GB Graphics card before. DDR5 memory on a GPU yes, but not a NVIDIA GeForce GT 630 4GB GDDR3 + LucidLogix Graphics Boost. Best thing you can do Relic is... Give us an example of the games you want to play. Give us your budget. Give us your location so a good retailer can be found. Can you upgrade the machine you currently own? What the specs of that?

dark13 Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 Yes, raid0 on SSD's is totally underrated. It gives crazy speed without spending too much and avoiding booting issues you may encounter with a pci-e ssd (ocz revodrive). The only problem is about TRIM... intel says its latest chipsets DOES use trim in raid0 but there's not a ways to check about it. Obviously fakeraid on chipset will use a bit of cpu power to manage the array but with modern cpus this is not a problem at all. SSDs anyway are not suitable for data disks, they simply costs too much (around 0.90€ per 1GB). dark13 Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 @thk r290x draws around 300w http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/gigabyte_radeon_r9_290x_review,10.html. For an overclocked 4770k consider 200w (intel's 4xxx does need less power than 3xxx). Hard disks is something like 5w-7w per unit, so consider 100w for 10 disks plus 70w for motherboard . A good 850w is ok. Obviously we're talking about a REAL 850W PSU Ah, check the psu to be compatible with haswell, with older psus you have to deactivate c6-c7 state support (energy saving) or you have to connect a fan to the +12 rail used for cpu. That states uses something like 0.5w so the psu tends to shutdown if something on the same rail does not keep it "awake" Automatizing infopanels creation from .csv files for HTPCs themes (look at infopanel tutorial.zip on the ftp in dark13 folder) PNGs to SWFs automatized flash scripts Hyperspin Wheelset automatized template (photoshop's variables + batch) Aeon nox 4.13 W.I.P. hyperspin skin
